Re: Trading Stocks(NYSE), anyone good?

hehe..... Give me a hard time.  Im a big boy. (Will read the entry now....just skimmed to end)
Heroin, Now thats rolling the dice, and coming up big....Hehe...

Lets see........ /me begins to read.

well, following the story, and taking it as gospel:

OK, so you have not made enough to retire, but you made a good move, and a tidy profit.
You rolled all of the profit into a primary residence, that avoided the LT tax.  A so-so move.
I would have rolled it into a multi-fam (not sure what is considered 'Residential' and not 'investment' in CA).  In NY thats a 4-fam.  CA I guess is the same.
I would have rolled enough to keep the mortgage 1/2 the rent roll.  Since you are overseas, you could have rented the 4th (your primary) unit for extra profit.

Still all-in-all, you did ok, probably had bad advice, or you didnt get advice.

The rest ?  so you took the LT hit, I assume 15%, gave another 12.5% to SSI and are left w/a sum that lets you seek further investments.

Oil sands ?  No Idea on that.

As to MIC, so you didnt take it on the chin on these ? speculating.

Chinese investment.  Again, speculating.

But, I guess you have to if you are still looking for that next Big pay day.
All I can say is, be careful.

BTW, you could have used the mortgage right off to ofset your ST gains on your investments, assuming you have to draw on those to live.  You now have a non-performing asset that you dont even use....your primary in the mtns.
following your entry of course.

Dude..... you have done well.  You have not retired, and are off traveling the world, but you have done well early on.

Also, im not a fan of Academia either.

BUT, here is the major BUT.

You knock a system that you are currently living.  Your ability to make moves w/o a govt stomping you out w/unreal taxation and control, is the free market at work.

Did you LLC your first investment ?  Guess not since you had nothing to loose anyway.  Still, look at the taxes you had to get hit with.

A little risky for me.  Yet, you are young, and only NOW have to worry about capital preservation.

I have to do the same, yet Im a lot more conservative than Oil sands, MICs, and Chinese venture.  Im a lot more aggressive than simple Mutual funds.

dude.  You are a member of the herd as well.

hehe.

"You are a member of the herd as well."

Not for long.

Re: Trading Stocks(NYSE), anyone good?

heres an idea... give me your money ...

Re: Trading Stocks(NYSE), anyone good?

@ Xeno,

So why the attack on a system that is taking making you a living ?  I dont get it.
You mock the banks that allowed you to borrow, to make an investment.
You mock the free market system that you have profited from.
You are into commodities and venture investments, overseas at that.
You travel the world in freedom.

Yet, you hate the free market, you hate capitalism ?  And base yourself out of America ?

Can anyone say Hypocrite ?  Or just naive ?

Dude, be happy.  Dont worry.

I would like to continue are talks on investment and such, if you would.

Real Estate is my game.  Thats why I knew on one move that sold befor the bubble broke, .. luck ?.. you didnt retire out of school.  Good move, but please.  You are not retired.

Also, you will always be a member of the herd.  hehe.

wink

Re: Trading Stocks(NYSE), anyone good?

"Yet, you hate the free market, you hate capitalism ?  And base yourself out of America ?"

I don't hate the free market.  I don't hate capitalism.  I don't hate America.  I am just not under the misconception that they exist.

We do not have a 'free market'.   There is no 'capitalism'.  America is just a word, imaginary lines drawn on a map, a series of ideas written into 'law' that don't really work all that well if you think about them.  What you have in the world is 'market' and 'capitalisticism'.  People like you, though, BELIEVE - rather simplemindedly - that you understand the nature of the 'market' as 'free' (although you can't really explain HOW it is 'free').  Your mind comes up with an E (like a calculator dividing by zero) when you are presented evidence that brings into question the 'free' nature of the market.   You don't see nor understand 'capitalisticism' because you REFUSE to accept the REALITY of what the word implies.

"So why the attack on a system that is taking making you a living ?  I dont get it."

I knock the system because it is NOT a 'free market system' as people like you erroneously claim it is.  I knock the system because it is NOT capitalist.

You don't get it because you are a tool of the 'corrupt facist communists' who really run things, and believe the lies they have brainwashed you with over the years.

"You are not retired."

I am retired.  I am doing what I want everyday.  My retirement is one long, productive, holiday.

Why do I take 'risks' on speculative ventures?  For one, they aren't that 'speculative' to me.  And two, I don't care about losing money.  When you know how to use the banks' money to get all the money you need, why care if you lose all you currently have?  It's MONEY.  Digital 1's and 0's recorded in computers. I could walk into any bank tomorrow, put on a powerpoint presentation of a business plan and they would agree to change the 1's and 0's for me to accomplish it.  And not just American banks, but Japanese, Chinese, Hong Kong, etc. ) They keep trying to lend me money even if I don't approach them.  Credit card companies keep trying to raise my limits, and keep lowering my interest rates.  But I hardly if ever use them, as they are (like most industries) stuck in the past.  Kind of reminds me of you, BW.

My biggest challenge atm is trying to cook more, rather than eating out at expensive restaurants all the time, or ordering in food.  But researching investment opportunities necessitate these 'dinner meetings', as well as dinner parties at my current apartment - which, by the way, is actually a show home for new home appliances manufactures to visit and sign contracts with the company I am affiliated with.  Sorry, BW, can't go into details for you.

BW, for someone who thinks they've seen and done it all, you really don't know how it works out here very well, do you?

Re: Trading Stocks(NYSE), anyone good?

Hehe. Well I'm 21 and retired. Been retired since I was born. The only way I'll ever have to work is if I mess up on investing my inheritance big time.

Re: Trading Stocks(NYSE), anyone good?

no wonder you are such a whiney / opinionated biatch...

mummy and daddy given you everything...

LOL to be honest i would rather earn my own, a sense of satisfaction comes from creating your own wealth. rather than being born into it.

Re: Trading Stocks(NYSE), anyone good?

@Xeno

I dont get it.  Why the hostility ?

I guess Im retired as well.  I havent drawn a paycheck in almost 20 years.
I employ quite a few people, fluctuating at any moment given the jobs Im on.
I dont boast my eating habits..."business dinners" are not productive for me.....and I am quite an accomplished chef, I must say.

Banks...ROFL.  Borrowing money is very easy.  Using those funds on other than the business plan is illegal.
If you borrow to invest in Oil Sands and Chinese ventures, thats up to your bank to decide if its viable.....sounds more like Angels and VCs to me.

As to your "Show Apt."  dont worry, I wont tell anyone your secret .... lol big_smile

You know whats really funny ??  ROFL..... My opinion of you has not changed a bit.  You sure do read like a sheep.
You fancy yourself some sort of Anarchist.
You dont believe in AMERICA or what ever.....like I do.... no flag waving in your "Show Apt. ?"

Guess what, I will sleep tonight just fine.  Even after I read what your wrote.

Re: Trading Stocks(NYSE), anyone good?

what are we in today BW?  I disappeared for a month there and got a little lonely :-p

I've been getting goods from OSG, FCX, RIG a bit

Not so hot from BAC (still, bastard stock, but then again, i got time), PCU, and moved out of CF (but maybe back in after it floats down a bit)

P.S. - Xeno, if you were retired, you wouldn't be doing business dinners, company affiliations, and whatever else.  Just because you enjoy doesn't mean it's not work :-p

Re: Trading Stocks(NYSE), anyone good?

The Yell looking at your current stocks, my heart skipped several beats. Are you suicidal man?

Phizer has no real new product in the pipeline, they just repackage existing ones to make new patents on them and then hype the new stuff... and companies and people are noticing, thus they are tanking.

Delta... well rising fuel is hitting them so hard it's a huge risk to go any airline atm. Especially with a dropping dollar.

WAMU is debatable... so I will not panic there...

but 99 cents stores? They cant get product cheap enough atm, they are all starting to suffer due to higher diesel prices... bad call there.

GE just had a huge, and ultra level drop, a cliff like no other... it's gonna be a month or two before they start climbing from that hole, and you invested? owie..

ofc Skoe's investments made me laugh...

I did steal one investment from Sushi however.. good call on Sprint-Nextel... definitely the company of the cell companies that is on the rise while the others are dithering.

Re: Trading Stocks(NYSE), anyone good?

Windows,  My play is SGR and AA now.

I made a tidy sum on C up to 26, got out, and then shorted it down to 22 and got out again.
Im off C now for a bit.  Want to see how the new rates shake out, and new Liquidity from Fed for Q3

I would say the only banking plays would be Visa or MasterCard.... (V and MAS I believe...w/o looking.)

Love AA now.  Again, I get a lot of my plays from Kramer.  AA is a logical play.  Aluminum is the only metal that has not made a significant move.  AA is also under valued, and has made some smart take overs....and has been beaten a bit.  Look at their foward PEs and growing cash position.

Then, yesterday, after I bought....... AA is in a bid to buy 40% stake in a Vietnam Aluminum Co.
Good stuff.

I have been a HUGE Long on SGR.  Great company, well placed to take advantage of Nuclear power surge for US
I guess you know that SGR owns Westinghouse, or has a large stake in it.

I will take a look see @ your plays ..... thanks.

well I just need it to go up a buck from where I bought it and I make money, you know.  I don't care if it's 10% of what it was a year ago.  But apparently I'm not going to get that buck sad

Re: Trading Stocks(NYSE), anyone good?

Sprint is renown here for having the best wireless (internet for laptops) network, being 2 times better than their next best competitor and 4 times better than t-mobile. Their servers are better, customer service is quicker on the play, and their core products are more desired in a recession than are others flashier core products.

In rl if I had money I would take this risk at about the same level I have on the game... sadly I have no money to risk BW tongue

lol @ Yell.

Einstien, I have Sprint as well, and I have never been happier.

I feel the same about Sprint.

hmm.....maybe I should take another look at their financial situation.
They are preferable in metro centers.......A lot of people like Sprint in NY.

"Ok here's what I'm gonna back to the hilt when I join the game

XRM. Xerium technologies.

An overextended paper manufacturer that hasn't recovered from buying out shoji inc in 2006. Check out its performance over the past year at nyse.com. It lost 75% of its value on March 31st when it announced it would default on payments and cancelled its dividend. Its facing bankruptcy.

So what the hell, right?

It's gained 9% back each day for the last two days. It just got a deferment on its default thru May 1st. Its got too many assets in too many countries to be worthless and the new management is really trying. It suffered a panic March 31 but it will recover a good deal of its lost value over the next month. Whether it sells off what it acquired in 2006, gets new financing, is bought out entirely, or even if it files a reconstruction bankruptcy (chapter 11) it's bound to be worth more in may than the $2 it costs right now. Since thats all you nOObs want from your stocks I say buy buy buy.

What say you BW and windowsME?  Calling your broker irl to max out your credit cards?"
