Topic: What to research?

As a population banker, is eco or construction more important? Should you even bother with welfare?

Re: What to research?

In the beginning, Construction, then in the end, feel free to shift towards 50/50, and sure, drop a few pennies into Welfare while you are at it, why not? It does help to have sometimes a population over the limit =P

(for instance, if you have a population limit of 1000, with some welfare it may go up to 1500, but when the buildings and what not kicks in to up your NW, your pop will stay at 1500 even though your limit may now be 1250)

Unless of course I'm a noob and I'm wrong, but that's what I remember seeing a few times =p smile

So planets won't get overpopulated and die?

Re: What to research?

I believe the welfare % only changes once a day, during the daily update.

Re: What to research?

If you start out your round as cf/rc based, and slowly build your pop per planet up during expo so that in late expo your fam can jump you (raze cf and rc, build lq and to) then go with construction initially, and then economy.  A bit later in the round after most of the infra building is done, throwing lots into welfare research is a cheaper way of boosting your pop, and therefore income, than building LQ's.

If you started out LQ/TO, which nobody does anymore, you would start econ till you get about 30%, and then split 50/50 econ and welfare.

Due to the very large nw that pop bankers get, if you are funding science only I wouldn't put into con sci unless it was specifically for a jump, otherwise its just too costly to get a good bonus and maintain it.
Focus instead on econ (which is income boost without added food cost) and then welfare (which is income boost with food cost, but may be cheaper than OB'ing LQ's).

This used to be the best signature ever, but after several years, a mod noticed it had a swear in it, and removed it.  I am happy to see they are paying attention.

Re: What to research?

yes, Warsie has it down. Funding research (construction that is) is bad because it costs so much money to keep it high. Remember, your pop is going to keep growing as you gain planets. As a result, your con is going to drop the higher your nw goes up. So it's like you're fighting a battle with yourself for no reason. If you get ready to jump a few thousand LQ's then you just fund research constantly to raise it and  have your pop hypnoed to lower your nw and raise your con (sometimes this isn't needed, depends on what your research is) and then you're gtg.

Sex without the e is still SX!

Re: What to research?

what if you're a non-pop banker? I like to keep construction bonus = OB to avoid 1 extra tick build time and wasted endurium for lasers early on smile

Re: What to research?

ombash... Wouldnt that not work once you have over 100% ob? (which should be under 2 weeks into the round...)

And no, keeping con bonus that high is a waste of resourses.
