I was stuck on the Brookhaven National Laboratory site. Fortunately for just 24 hours, but that's only because we managed to find alternative flight arrangements. We drove from BNL (half way up Long Island) to Philadelphia and got a BA flight from there. If we had gone with our original ticket with US Airways, we wouldn't be leaving the US for about another 6 hours.
I have learned many useful things though as a result of this.
1) US Carriers are really crap. European carriers (Lufthansa, Air Chance [France], BA et al) all serve alcohol free of charge. I took advantage.
The food is also better.
2) European carriers have to, as a result of a European directive, support you when your flight is cancelled, i.e. provide accommodation and food, or money towards these costs. US carriers have no such obligation.
I am still hacked off at US Airways for cancelling our flight as UK airspace was opening up and Lufthansa operated a flight that very same day along the same route we were due to take with US Airways. US Aiways were essentially being pillocks. But I'm never flying anything other than a European carrier in future.
To those who understand I extend my hand; To the doubtful I demand to take me as I am.
