Topic: REAL Conservatives
Forget the bible preachers, Social Conservatives, Palin fans, and so on. They are cute, but not REAL conservatives in the American tradition.
Real Conservatives believe that the best system for man, the kind that provides him with the best opportunities to live in abundance and happiness, is one where power and wealth are broadly distributed. Yes, wealth is broadly distributed. I don't mean that naive Liberal idea of taking away from the rich and giving it to the poor through the government. All that these distribution schemes effectively accomplish is concentrate power in the hands of a few by eliminating the competition to those few. It is tyranny in the guise of serving the greater good. Paris Hilton did not worry about estate taxes, but small time millionaires were slammed by it. The potential to invest that money to compete with her ilk was limited and wasted on government spending. The government is not morally superior, and nor is it responsible to the people. Our politicians are actually responsible to those who can invest in their self-serving projects. Like any human, their intentions are only to better themselves. Conservatives do not see this as evil, but as a reason for why power must be limited and checked. The best way to accomplish this is with a Republic under a competitive market where powers are divided and balanced so that wealth and therefore power and influence never concentrate in the hands of a few. The Robber Barons and large corporations today did not establish their monopolies thanks to their skill, but rather they owe or owed their position entirely to the government.
That is a Conservative. Not someone who praises a wrathful God, Palin and denies Science.
