Topic: Informal poll

ISome nations are considering banning the burqua. Some have banned it at public places like banks and such and some make it illegal to work on the government and wear one.

So I think a poll is in order. Should burquas be:

1) banned entirely

2) banned for government employees

3) banned from sensitive locations

4) both 2 & 3

5) none of the above

6) banned in publlc

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!
Kemp currently not being responded to until he makes CONCISE posts.
Avogardo and Noir ignored by me for life so people know why I do not respond to them. (Informational)

Re: Informal poll

I think the burqua, or any other item of clothing that covers your identity completly, should be banned. It's disrespectfull and a hazard to public security.

NEE NAW NEE NAW

Re: Informal poll

in germany we have a law that forbids to hide your identity at demonstrations. I founf no other restrictions.
So I think the burqua should be banned at demonstrations and thats it.
So I would go for 3

Re: Informal poll

1) banned entirely

Muslim or Arabic cultural gimmicks should not be permitted on the streets of Western nations.

Je maintiendrai

Re: Informal poll

Belgium was well on its way to be the first country that prohibited it completely.
I'm no fan of the Burqa, but I think the special law for it's unneeded. It's already prohibited in Belgium to hide your face completely in "public space".

"Muslim or Arabic cultural gimmicks should not be permitted on the streets of Western nations."

If you want to ban the hijab, would you also ban nuns in their clothing on the streets?

God: Behold ye angels, I have created the ass.. Throughout the ages to come men and women shall grab hold of these and shout my name...

Re: Informal poll

i would go for:
2) banned for government employees

I dont want to talk against some walking cloth bag.

but i dont care if they wear it in their free time, or at home.

Re: Informal poll

well it doesn't completely hide the face, yo can still see the eyes and the bridge of the nose

so beekeepers are banned in Belgium?

Re: Informal poll

"well it doesn't completely hide the face, yo can still see the eyes and the bridge of the nose"

as in "making you unidentifyable"

Re: Informal poll

that is an unjust law! also that would ban beekeeping and arc welding in public

Re: Informal poll

6. I want it banned in public. Do at home whatever you please.
Make another point if you will Einstein smile.

Its quit complicated tough, and maybe impossible to enforce without some major problems. What about people who want to dress themselves for theater or as a joke? It would be unfair to sanction them.

LOL@chris
...but you do have point there. It would make for some ridiculous situations. Still, I am all for it.

Re: Informal poll

"that is an unjust law! also that would ban beekeeping and arc welding in public"

There are exceptions for jobs and certain events. You're allowed to do welding and you are allowed to wear a halloween costume (but not the whole year through).

Re: Informal poll

"If you want to ban the hijab, would you also ban nuns in their clothing on the streets?"

No. Christianity is still very much a part of European culture. And you can still see their face.

Re: Informal poll

it should be banned. anyone and anything can be concealed underneath one.

Re: Informal poll

I think the Hijab (shows face) is fine, but the burqua is too much. Banning it, however, is too much.

Edit: I go with #5

Re: Informal poll

i'd go with 1, ban it completely for my country, you can't identify people, they appear rude in public, i'm fed up of walking around local places and seeing people wearing burqua's and such, the immigration level is bad enough without them coming here, bringing their religions and expecting special treatment for them, for example if you enter a supermarket wearing a cap or motor cycle helmet, you have to remove it or could be asked to leave, however people wearing burqua's believe it is their religious right to wear 1, they enter our country they should abide by our rules is my opinion, so yes, ban the burqua

1,2 Freddy's coming for you. 3,4 better lock your door. 5,6 getta crucifix. 7,8 better stay up late. 9,10 NEVER SLEEP AGAIN  \\\\ / In your dreams \ ////

Re: Informal poll

i get told to put my hood down in the supermarket, so im sorry if i cant wear a hood in my own country, then ban burquas completely because otherwise its just downright unfair

Re: Informal poll

"No. Christianity is still very much a part of European culture. And you can still see their face."

First of all, I was talking about the hajib, not the niqaab or the burka. It's pretty much like what nuns wear.
If you think islamic people don't have the right to wear it while christian people do, you take on an undefendable moral position that's close to racist.

------------

I'll go with 5. None of the above then tongue

God: Behold ye angels, I have created the ass.. Throughout the ages to come men and women shall grab hold of these and shout my name...

Re: Informal poll

To ban the burqa is simply to trade one compulsion (wear this) for another (dont wear this). Are you really so stupid as to think forcing either will make a difference?

Nevermind, I probably know the answer to that question.

Re: Informal poll

Going with 4.

2) banned for government employees

3) banned from sensitive locations

4) both 2 & 3

need to be able to trust government employees. i don't trust anyone who i can't completely see. i also prefer any government ran institution to be extremely secular, so no crosses, no bibles, no korans, no torah's, and no burquas or whatever. Ban them all (will never happen though...).
and about the sensitive locations: you never know what they could be hiding under those burquas. Same goes for all big body-engulfing cloths (so also what nuns wear and the hajib), never know if they got a bomb or a gun or whatever under them. Could even be a very clean shaven man who's planning to rob, let's say, a bank for all we know.

Re: Informal poll

cause it ain't no fun if the homies can't have nun

Re: Informal poll

"undefendable moral position that's close to racist."

Nonsense, morals are fluid. Racism being out of vogue does not mean it can't be used for good (of one party). Infact it's been used to shape societies for thousands of years.
