Topic: Math Science Peers?

I am probably going to find they all left, but once upon a time we had a slew of compression lovers.


I just completed an analysis of my work with some different perspectives and need a question resolved.

Given random data can have most, but not all segments compressed, and given a Standard Huffman can complete approximately all but 23.6% of data with an equal to, or compressed size...

And using the following basic Huffman:

00 = 0
01 = 10
10 = 110
11 = 111

Is there a known benchmark for comparison, as the highest percentage of random data compressible?


For instance I am able to compress all but 17% of random data (though a bit of hard work may get this to 15%) and I wanted to know how to benchmark this aspect properly.


No laughs at my old claims, thay was depression skewing the work. This work has been submitted and peer reviewed, though I am seeking a quicker answer to this question so posting here. Yes the system works, might be worth persuing now that I have time, and yes the peers proved it could work making me a math scientist with their recognition now please do not spam or troll this sincere question thread *sigh*

His method is lossy though, mine is lossless.


It's like choosing between Social Security (runs out of cash eventually) or a 401k you manage yourself (never truly runs out, done right it makes you lots of money)

7 symbols, so in theory 3 bits per symbol, but the dictionary would be larger than the savings.

Huffman is probably best for such small works as that.

Let's see, 8 bits per character, we could use the small one and if lucky get the size reduced to 4 bits per character, all matters on their natural binary representation.


My efforts are versus random data. Since this means larger files to, I never have to worry about small segments nor about specific binary representations.

An example of your possible coding

If x is top 15 outcomes then 4 bits, else 12 bits

1111(add 8 more bits for next 241 outcomes plausible


Of course this would require some luck. I doubt numbers and a decimal would match.


This is a simplistic approach though and not perfect. The code is to small with to few redundicies in such a short line.

Have you proven this in practice? I.E. not just on paper? My understanding of the concept, via friends who do know what they are talking about, was your compression algorithm was possible on paper but not in reality and was something that all 2nd year students in EEE & Comsys 'discovered' at some point, and then got dissapointed when they couldn't make it work in any real circumstances....

On to others

Wfs I had an alpha of an alpha made and ran out of time to work on the project. Truck driving is tiring in nature.

I needed to work on one of the phases to optimize it. This was going to be a lot of work. Now though it is optimized via a simple system. More free time equaled a bit of work.


Zarf my depression caused paranoia, and a sense the worst will happen. Very big in both. So I hid the actual system and due to depression also at times got confused.

Now at one point I thought it could compress anything period. No such claims now. If it could compress anything I would be Bill Gates rich ofc.

What I have here is not just a 'math based' attack or patterb recognition, but a pattern generation system of sorts. The trade of for creating patterns is a size increase initially.

Then if the data is indeed in a pattern it can be compressed, sometimes amazingly so.

My recent work on tables has furthered this, now I am going to incoprorate a LZW scheme into the system as well as a run at a sliding window effort. When the files created by my system are generated they are random but disbalanced in the ratio of 0's and 1's.

WTF why I organize my data to fit your for-profit model of compression? Why can't I just compress whatever I want to without worrying about it?  Why would I pay you to create a situation where I and any employees would have to pay for training to learn how to mold our operations to fit your "service"?

my point is that when I complain that your compression model is too complicated to understand, of limited utility, and would require reorganization to implement on a widespread basis...I am no longer complaining abut YOU, you've just adopted MOST software developer's business model, and I'm really complaining about the most recession proof industry on earth
