Topic: Give These Guys the Bomb!

By ALI AKBAR DAREINI

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - A radical cleric called Saturday for the creation of a "Greater Iran" that would rule over the entire Middle East and Central Asia, in an event that he said would herald the coming of Islam's expected messiah.

Ayatollah Mohammad Bagher Kharrazi said the creation of what he calls an Islamic United States is a central aim of the political party he leads called Hezbollah, or Party of God, and that he hoped to make it a reality if they win the next presidential election.

Kharrazi's comments reveal the thinking of a growing number of hard-liners in Iran, many of whom have become more radical during the postelection political crisis and the international standoff over the country's nuclear program. Kharrazi, however, is not highly influential in Iran's clerical hierarchy and his views do not represent those of the current government.

Kharrazi's comments were published Saturday in his newspaper, Hezbollah.

He said he envisioned a Greater Iran that would stretch from Afghanistan to Israel, bringing about the destruction of the Jewish state.

He also said its formation would be a prelude to the reappearance of the Mahdi, a revered ninth-century saint known as the Hidden Imam, whom Muslims believe will reappear before judgment day to end tyranny and promote justice in the world.

"The Islamic United States will be an introduction to the formation of the global village of the oppressed and that will be a prelude to the single global rule of the Mahdi," the Hezbollah newspaper quoted him as saying.

Besides Israel, he said the union would also destroy Shiite Iran's other regional adversaries, whom he called "cancerous tumors." He singled out secular Arab nationalists such as members of Saddam Hussein's Baath Party in Iraq, as well as followers of the austere version of Sunni Islam practiced primarily in Saudi Arabia that is known as Wahabism.

Saudi Arabia and other Sunni Arab nations have watched Iran's growing regional clout with deep concern.

The growing voice of hard-liners like Kharrazi has deepened worries even if it appears unlikely such a divisive figure would win the 2013 presidential election.

Still, even President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Thursday that he expects the government which follows his to be "ten times more revolutionary."

Oh sure, just because the guy opens his mouth about government policy and is unmolested, in a country that executes people who protest high prices, doesn't mean the government supports his views or anything.

Give them the bomb! What could go wrong? It's not like we would mind these guys running OPEC, huh?

Oh and I like that the page has a hyperlink for buying persian carpets.

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Re: Give These Guys the Bomb!

Yeah I read that to.

Israel won't accept their destruction, so I wait patiently for the nuclear war against Iran.

A conventional war would have been cleaner, more targeted, and with less reprecusions.

But liberals think Iran means no danger, after all Hitler was just misunderstood, he was really a swell guy! His speeches to his people were not designed scare his neighbors, just to give him time to gain control.

No one is truly evil, if we just let them kill all the Jews then they will stop being so angey, so mean, so inhuman.

Re: Give These Guys the Bomb!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are not comparisons between Iran and Nazi Germany totally wrong considering that, at the time, Nazi Germany was possibly the most technologically advanced country in the world, and at the time of their 1939 summer holiday in Poland they didn't have several thousand nuclear warheads already aimed at them, waiting to step out of line?

And yeah, a super state made up of several large states populated almost exclusively by people that reject science and reason in favour of a god that strongly resembles the dark side of their own psyche is a crazy idea that will never work, or last, and definitely can never be allowed to develop weapons of mass destruction.

See, I can do the lowest form of wit, too.

"So, it's defeat for you, is it? Someday I must meet a similar fate..."

Reject science?

What crack are you smoking.

Their equipment is not yet German or French standards, but they are catching up VERY fast.

They have a crappy airforce, but a super sam system thanks to Russia.

They are the only third world rated nation to put a satelite in space on their own.

And Nazi Germany tried very hard to exterminaste the Jews. Something Irans leaders have vowed repeatedly to finish.

Re: Give These Guys the Bomb!

As an RE teacher I feel I should point out most Muslims do not believe in the Mahdi it is the minority shia Muslims that do.

In fact the prophet 99% of Muslims believe will return for judgement day is Isa (Jesus).

None of Irans neighbours would allow them to gain that influence, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Pakistan are all Sunni countries that eye Iran with suspicion, Iraq hates Iran with a passion after the war.

Iran is within its right to pursue nuclear technology (including missiles). It seems hypocritical to allow India and Pakistan to develop nukes but then block another country because we dont like them (Hell I dispise Iran but to be honest if I thought America was considering an invasion and was in charge of Iran I would make sure we developed nukes ASAP)

I also think you have to take into context Irans history - they tend to depose leaders who have overtly positive feelings towards the west so every now and then the leaders feel the need to rattle the sabre, Iran has missiles that can reach Israel now. If they believed as strongly as they claim that it should be destroyed they would use their missiles.

Re: Give These Guys the Bomb!

They DO USE THEIR MISSILES.

They giive them to Hezzbolah all the time.

Their military iis being built up for a final confrontation, then they will attack.

Am I the only one who is disturbed by the fact that if you slur the pronunciation of the Ayatollah's name it sounds like  Crazy?

Re: Give These Guys the Bomb!

Personally I feel any country that says they want nuclear weapons and has a very negative stance to the US should be targeted by ours. If you want to play in the big leagues there should be consequences for doing so. Walking up to a big guy on the street and saying "Hey once i get a gun I'm coming back to shoot you" is asking for them to be ready to shoot you the moment you look at them weird. (replace gun with Nuke)
