Topic: Fined... Justified or not?

I just got fined cause me and my brother wre driving without our bicyclelights on. We were on a heavily lighted road and only 200M away from pur door. IMO a warning should have been sufficient.. But the near-fascists fined us for 50 EUR....
I mean, the bloody road's packed with stoned drivers who drive 30KM/H too fast all the time, and they fine us...... That's rather unfair, isn't it?

God: Behold ye angels, I have created the ass.. Throughout the ages to come men and women shall grab hold of these and shout my name...

Re: Fined... Justified or not?

life is unfair, get over it or abuse it anyway u can. smart ppl dont bitch and complain they find ways to abuse the system.

<parrot> there is also the odd  possibility that tryme is an idiot

Re: Fined... Justified or not?

WFS, law is the law, there might be someone wout there going 90KM/H to fast all the time and they dont get caught, but the majority of anyone who do that, do. You make up a small percentage, and besides, whos to say whats fair and not fair in the law anyways besides a judge or jurry. if you think its not fair, try to reverse it tongue i doubt youll get it reversed becuase you still broke the law. so in reality, its really quite fair smile

-Walking around, looking for a way, but no one tells me which way to go, im caught up in a world, a maze with yes men who feeds me lies, i anwser no questions they give me no anwsers, follow the wise but they are walking in pampers, give me a ciggerete smokeing my cancer drink the pain away but they still have no anwser-

"California Vehicle Code section 21201
Equipment Requirements
21201.  (a) No person shall operate a bicycle on a roadway unless it is equipped with a brake which will enable the operator to make one braked wheel skid on dry, level, clean pavement.

(b) No person shall operate on the highway ( )1 a bicycle equipped with handlebars so raised that the operator must elevate his hands above the level of his shoulders in order to grasp the normal steering grip area.

(c) No person shall operate upon ( )2 a highway a bicycle that is of a size that prevents the operator from safely stopping the bicycle, supporting it in an upright position with at least one foot on the ground, and restarting it in a safe manner.

(d) ( )3 A bicycle operated during darkness upon a highway, a sidewalk where bicycle operation is not prohibited by the local jurisdiction, or a bikeway, as defined in Section 890.4 of the Streets and Highways Code, shall be equipped with all of the following:

(1) A lamp emitting a white light that, while the bicycle is in motion, illuminates the highway, sidewalk, or bikeway in front of the bicyclist and is visible from a distance of 300 feet in front and from the sides of the bicycle.

(2) A red reflector on the rear that shall be visible from a distance of 500 feet to the rear when directly in front of lawful upper beams of headlamps on a motor vehicle.

(3) A white or yellow reflector on each pedal, shoe, or ankle visible from the front and rear of the bicycle from a distance of 200 feet.

(4) A white or yellow reflector on each side forward of the center of the bicycle, and a white or red reflector on each side to the rear of the center of the bicycle, except that bicycles that are equipped with reflectorized tires on the front and the rear need not be equipped with these side reflectors.

(e) A lamp or lamp combination, emitting a white light, attached to the operator and visible from a distance of 300 feet in front and from the sides of the bicycle, may be used in lieu of the lamp required by ( )4 paragraph (1) of subdivision (d).

"The court can tell you what amount to pay. The fine for infractions can be $370 or more. If your misdemeanor case is not a DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs), your fine will probably be up to $3,520.
If you've been charged with a DUI for the first time, you may go to jail for up to 6 months and pay up to $3,520 or more. You may also lose your driver's license for 6 months. [Riding a bike while buzzed is a DUI]. "

So yeah you got off easy, out here the fine would be about 140 EUR

Re: Fined... Justified or not?

wtf

DUI on a bike? no way thatll happen here haha... here its like.. go by bike if u need to get drunk... cant expect all those 16 yr olds to be escorted by 18+ yr lds with cars..

Also funny that u need to be in an upright position... like those bikes where u lay back and cycle are forbidden?

by the way. @ WFS: yes it was fair giving u a ticket... anyone can say "hey my house is right there". Also it doesnt matter right? or were u planning on driving back and forth in front of ur house?

PS got a fine (20e) for no lights a while back too... mf'ers were waiting on the other end of a tunnel and i was like, turning back to go away but they ordered me to go back tongue First fine for this though while i never have lights

yeah here in CA bikes ride in city streets like cars.  If the cyclist is lying down he'll be invisible a lot of the time to motorists.  That's also why they punish DUI on a bike.

Re: Fined... Justified or not?

Cops are assholes trying to mess with as much people as they can, generally speaking, i'm sure there are a few good ones too.

Reminds me of the fine they gave a guy because he puked on the street after he got unwell after eating something dodgy.
Or the fine they gave me for public drunkeness, while i was doing nothing wrong, i was on the way to my house (kot) and i was almost there X(
It may be the law, but that way they have to fine 1/2 of leuven every day.

What do I have to work with?
