Re: Too good to be true...

Oh, don't bother Aviendha. The Americans opposed to health care will just call Norway "naive" or "weak" and be done with it..
And about the prison system: I quite like it, imprisoning doesn't really work. New ways should be explored..

God: Behold ye angels, I have created the ass.. Throughout the ages to come men and women shall grab hold of these and shout my name...

Re: Too good to be true...

like flamers and dildos?

i know that the voices in my head aren't real...but sometimes, they have some pretty good ideas!!!

Re: Too good to be true...

But i have to bother.  I mean instead of being arrogant, we should use good examples and try them (too bad norway is trying to be like USA). Besides not every American would think its naive or weak.

Re: Too good to be true...

I wouldn't trust a michael moore film if he filmed me giving him the finger

Re: Too good to be true...

And if i saw you give that finger it must have been a lie because michael moore and his team video taped it.

Re: Too good to be true...

ummm norway is a superrich country because of its fairly low population combined large soverein wealth fund from its oil, it's simply not representative because it can shell out a big pile of cash at everything that most other developed nations simply don't have

$150 on the disguise, and the flamethrower, and the suitcase

Re: Too good to be true...

True we have been lucky because of our oil money. But again USA woulda been much richer if they choose not to mental damage youths in a war that was totally unessacery.

Re: Too good to be true...

Re: Too good to be true...

eyemericans should wake up and smell reality; their health care system is not bad perse; the quality rates amongst the best, it s just very very very inefficient;
so that a lot of people dont get what they need, and a few people get way more than they need, because they think they need it, or because they just can afford to have it done. crazy stuff.

till the end of time..

Re: Too good to be true...

In Holland many prisons already changed to a more humane way of treating their inmates.

So far, in those prisons, it has been working out. Less people come back to prison and most actually better theirselfs.

As far as healthcare goes, I agree with those stupid reporters in the beginning: Europe is not a utopia when it comes to health care.
But it beats the American system big time.

Re: Too good to be true...

means it's a better country if you're a criminal, and we all know we are a bit of a criminal somewhere... lol
I for example once stole a bar of chocolate from the cupboard in our house.

Re: Too good to be true...

that's why people should own guns, in case you open a cupboard and EDN pops out with a mouthful of easter bunny, you won't have time to wait for a cop

Re: Too good to be true...

I spent some time reading about it, SteakFries.
We're actually at this point taking in belgian prisoners because our prisons are not full at this time.

Our criminals most of the time get the room to study for a job and get quite enough psychiatric help. By actually helping them better theirselfs and giving them room for personal growth recidivism has decreased in the Netherlands.

Re: Too good to be true...

countries and cultures are drastically different, to infer there are universal solutions to each problem is to take the position of a retard. for example, the video said very few policemen carry guns; that would never work in the gang inhabited cities of the US; a ban on guns wouldnt work with massive borders with mexico and canada, and the massive amount of guns already in civilian hands.

Re: Too good to be true...

"In Norway preventive detention implies a sentence of imprisonment for persons who have committed a serious crime and who in the opinion of the court constitute a risk for re-offending. The court states a maximum duration and usually a minimum duration for which the sentence must be served. The offender can be conditionally released after having served the minimum duration period. The court may also prolong the maximum duration. In 2002 "forvaring" replaced the order of "sikring" in Norway. "Sikring" was not a punishment in the judicial sense. The court ordered a sentence of "sikring" when there was a risk of re-offending due to the offender's psychiatric condition or his mental state or abilities. The sentence stated a maximum duration, usually between 5 - 10 years. Each year there was a reassessment whether it was necessary from a security point of view to keep the offender in prison."

It's GOOD that Norwergian judges can hand down arbitrary terms of imprisonment.  It's VERY GOOD.  yikes

Re: Too good to be true...

I'm not taking the position of an American, avo. And you're right that you can't solve every different problem with the same solution. But you can use what is useful in the solution and adapt it to the problem.
Like what you said with the gangs. Well, that's your own silly problem. We, being a slightly older nation, though it would be wise to just say no to weapons. Which means no production of weapons in our country and therefore only the bigger criminals have guns. And some silly ones. But that's why in Holland police officers still wear weaponry, but unlike American "cops" they will not draw until they think their life is in actual danger.

And I know that in Norway they actually do not wear guns, this is because they're aware that there's no real retards remaining in their country. Which is hard to say for the US.

Re: Too good to be true...

....I look at the USA's "health system" and "policing" and "housing" and i see the UK in a few years....

....in my view (and this is only in my personal opinion) the health system would never be able to manage to anything other than what it is now without massive wholesale changes (it will never be up to the standard of the NHS in the UK for example, yes it may not be perfect but it is completely free and pretty well run, although too many quango's and red tape), the policing will never be the same as the UK as we are two massively different peoples now and as an example you can take the gang scene in the UK and see that although the criminal fraternity carry weapons (knives, guns, etc) our police officers time and again voted against carrying weapons, instead leaving this part of policing to the armed response units, we (as a race) seem intent on spending a lot more on wars, defence, etc than on each other....our politicians are employed by us....they have no god given right to impose their "rule" onto us and we must all make it known to them that we are not happy with them or their "ways"....in the UK over the past few months we have been finding out how our politicians "top-up" their "wages" by claiming
