Topic: Every time i play a game windows crashes

Ok so i got this problem ok, usualy i dont play many games on my pc since its not exactly a gaming p.c.. And most of the ones i play are fine and dont require much graphics etc

But when i started playing settlers 5, it would play fine then all of a sudden usualy aroundf half an hour in it would crash to dos. Gimme a blue screen with lots of white writing on it and then restart the computer which is a huge pain in the ass..

Now i downloaded EVE and i like it, but everytime i play it also does this, ive tried lowering the specs on the game such as knock it down to 16 bit colour.. but it still crashes...

Im using 128mb Radeon 9100

I know what a shit card im considering buying a 512mb 8500gt or something, seen one for 35 pound including p&p.. Will this solve the problem or is it just my p.c causing this? I am using windows xp proffesional sp2.. Got 3ghz processor with 1 gig of memory ram smile

crashes usually arent due to the graphics card... a new one might fix it, but then again, it might just drop 35 quid smile Might as well give it a go I suppose though smile

Maybe its an overheating problem.
Check if fans of Graphics card,board and CPU are moving,also check if the hardrive gets very hot.
Download a thermal monitoring software.

check you have the right, or compatable, version of direct X...check all your drivers for hardware...

and check your motherboard for broken bits...

...like a capacitor (one of them small round thingies, theres loads)

mine did the same ages ago & so did my head in.

turned out there was a capacitor broken off when i put my dvd writer in (cos the manufacturers of the m/board put them in the stupidest place ever)

if this is the problem, either [very carrefully] try fixing it yourself (bit of solder), or get someone else to fix it...

...or buy a new one

and i checked my heating temp:

65*c on my processor or smt i think

didnt get to check the rest

i doubt its something like capacitor since it only ever happens when i play games such as EVE or settlers 5 etc, i can stay on the comp for hours on end if i ust use msn n firefox etc.. I think its something to do with my gfx memory or smt since when the blue screen comes on i managed to catch one word of it, which was the word 'memory' tongue

a clean install

i dont wanna sound gay but i didnt buy my windows xp, i got it from a friend on a cd tongue

so i dont think i have genuine copy..

i dont even know where my windows xp cd is

is there a download somewhere? tongue

or is there another way to completely re-install windows tongue

i wouldnt mind cleaning my whole pc also, i have shit on here i dont need and cba to take off..

Corrupt memory is a possibility, a problem with the GPU too, or a problem with Windows all together...

How exactly does it crash?

Yeah the writing on that blue screen is probably important

I have same problem with Masters Of Orion 2 on My XP computer. My dad hs XP and it works flawlessly on his. My suckass computer doesnt want to read all my graphic card memory. I have an old computer with WinME on it for my older games

I tried using an old digital camera--"old" meaning 2001-- and it stopped my XP computer from finding my sound card. Im gonna buy a laptop anyway and when i do I'm a get Marcellus Wallace on this XP

im using an antique gfx card atm tongue ( radeon 9100 agp)

Forget it, unless u have perfect eyesight u cant even read those tongue

basicaly i have 1024mb ram, 3ghz processor pentium D 4 or smt single core..

Gfx card is like i said, radeon 9100 agp chip type.. 128mb sad Graphic interface is agp version 3 max transfer rate 8x..

im using windows xp service pack 2..

My motherboard is 4 years old P4R800-VM... Chipset ATI

the comp just goes black then goes to the blue screen with writing on then before i can do anything it restarts.. sad

but suggest you buy a new graphics card.. and since the ram is all different too.. get 1gb kit or stick of ram, and replace the ones you have now..

and also... as someone stated already... WINDOWS! lol
it would be recommended to do a fresh install, AND since you have a "non-genuine-copy" cough cough... ##349759454'5'45846
you maybe should buy a oem copy.. which is around

how many RAM slots do you have? The issue maybe that you have your ram cards setup incorrectly, I had the same issue when ever I tried doing anything that was kind of RAM heavy. Though if this is a new issue and you've had your PC setup this way for awhile then most likely the cause is a corrupt Windows Install, or like WFS said corrupt Memory.

so this pillock... humidity.... i asked him if the vga is connected horizontal or vertical... and he says horizontal.. but i told him that ati 9100 is an INTREGRATED chip for graphics. which should have been vertical connection...

but he has found a graphics card laying around nvidia 5300 and plugged it in and seems to be working and has just installed the driver for it.

and now he tells me, "yeah, the vga was connected vertial, not horizontal"

as we all know, intregrated gfx phails everything.. especially gaming.. (well, nowadays they be perfect for gaming.. but still not advanced for gaming) but yeah//// humidity = NUB! XD
