Topic: Australia military build-up

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/8030292.stm?lsf

Australia is planning a military build up over the next 20 years. clearly its a reaction to China.

IMO Australia would be much better off declaring themselves neutral like Switzerland.

Re: Australia military build-up

China is modernizing its military at an alarming rate, nobody knows their true defence budget because much like the old USSR they move funds around from different areas and keep  true spending a secret- but their official defence budget has been rising. Their building new submarines, tanks planes etc it's got America worried.

so I guess Australia is too.

If one guy has 10 guns it doesnt matter how many sticks you have it still wont matter.

Re: Australia military build-up

Building nukes would be much cheaper.
Or you still have that nuclear free hippie activism there in down under?

Re: Australia military build-up

You probably do need to ensure nobody but the USA has the capability to rape your commerce

You don't have to worry about usa because you speak english

All those arabs and iranians and koreans have to talk to us through BBC translators who make everything boring. "Why did you bomb us. You killed my cousin. You suck."

Aussies can speak to us direct. "Oi yank! Ya blew up me bleedin house! A freakin' liberty, yank! Wotcher!" And we'd all feel bad no matter who started it.

Re: Australia military build-up

its called the nuclear non-proliferation treaty- Australia is a signatory of it.

plus barack obama  in office he's not going to support a nuclear australia even if he wants, to, its against his policy & the treaty.

Re: Australia military build-up

yeah I was like, you stil abide that treaty?

if you broke the treaty Obama would rush down there and apologize

so yeah, I guess that's a reason to keep it

I'm starting to notice, the more loyal and helpful an ally you are to America, the more Democrats piss on you with the confidence you'll drink it smiling

Re: Australia military build-up

America cant say- Yes Australia You can have nukes when at the same time they say NO Iran No N.Korea you CANT.

it's also why Israel (who everyone knows has nukes) neither confirms nor denies it has them.

Re: Australia military build-up

sure we can, you speak english.

if you really wanted nukes and said you were gonna get some and throw the US military out of Australia, i think you'd see Washington turn a blind eye to your nukes and pay whatever you wanted to let us stay

Yes we can. Everyone in power knows that most political events are motivated by power and not consistency or ideology.

Re: Australia military build-up

im happy for any country to become more powerful. i really hate US sticking their ass to every country's internal businesses and to tell them what is right and what is wrong. and please stop crying about chinese military budget. US is spending much much much higher any chinese government and so far all i see is US using their military power to push other countries around. yup you call that peaceful development............................how about kiss my ass? or and i forgot the most importatn point, "only US is allowed to build and spend shit load of cash on mililary".

and im happy that australia is building up military too. i dont care if australia is worried about china or not, as long as australia stop relying on US and kissing up US ass like that old fool john howard (however you spell his name, hate him that i dont even want to learn to type his name properly) did. i didnt hate bush as much as i hate howard..........................in fact i thought bush is pretty funny for the mistakes he made  big_smile.

hahahaaha and i got some free cash from kevin rudd, off to spend it big_smile. to be honest i dont think cash bonus is going to boost economy that much. better off spending it somewher more useful.

i love you all!

Dammed of you do, dammed if you don't. People always complains when we do something and they complain more when we don't. Maybe the US should just go isolationist for about 50 years. Once the rest of the world collapses and blows itself up with ANOTHER worldwar they'll be begging for us to set things right again. ^.^

Then they'll complain that we're doing it all wrong again. -.-;

note: most of the weapons the Aussies will buy will be American made. Plus their one of our strategic allies in the region.

Re: Australia military build-up

Look up the nations who designed the JSF. ^.^ They were really only brought in to cut costs. I guess the planners figured they'll get our latest fighter eventually through arms sales. Might as well bring them in for the planning process from the ground up. Though many nations contributed it's really a US/UK designed weapons platform.

Correction, make that 100 F-22s, and you have a significant advantage. Or 300 F-35s. 300 supported by two carriers would be ideal.

Also the Aussie SAS or whatever they are called these days would be able to make mincemeat of China's infrastructure (e.g. blow up all the refineries, everyone starves, blow up the nuke plants, everyone glows), including psych-based attacks that would instill fear, panic and anger in the populace. They are comparatively docile being in such a controlled environment as China, so they would panic once the government looked like it couldn't help them.
