Which is why we need to stop encouraging this ape. (ha ha. I know. not the same thing. but he doesn't know the difference between monkeys and homo sapiens!)
Oh it's nothing much, only a couple million years of evolution. ^.^
I'll give Xeno 24 hours to compose a worthwhile response to my objections before I consider the topic closed for good (I'm too nice I know).
You actually think we are so much more evolved than monkeys, don't you? Well, for your information we are 98% genetically identical to chimps.
You realize there's about the same difference between our DNA and the DNA of a monkey vs the DNA of a single cell organism, right?
You need to go back and learn something about biology. A 2% difference is huge. -.-
He doesn't need anything more than his common sense! He looks at monkeys and looks at his family and there is only a 2% difference in appearance and behavior. All that DNA talk is "science," the ignorant, strange, and outdated religion of less civilized peoples than his.
"He doesn't need anything more than his common sense! He looks at monkeys and looks at his family and there is only a 2% difference in appearance and behavior. "
LOL
Xeno: you realise we are decendant from the "monkeys" of the plains right? which means we didn't climb trees as much... Monkeys and other presnet day apes were all apes of the forests/jungles. We evolved because we had too to survive, no convienant hiding places up trees...
Lizon,
The shared DNA of all organisms is something around at least 50-60%. It's not 90% lol.
But I think we can learn something from the bonobos, lol.
To be honest, I kinda knew it was lower....I was just too lazy to bother looking it up. I know I'm loosing my touch.
Part of the reason so many of us are turning a blind eye to the mass-extinctions we are causing is that we think it is our right due to our evolutionary superiority. But the evolutionary hierarchy upon the top of which we have placed ourselves is something we have fabricated.
The only reason we are even considering changing our behavior with regards to our environment and destruction of species is that it is becoming clearer to us that it is in the interest of the survival of our species to do so.
We believe that our 2% genetic difference from the apes (and our genetic difference from other species) somehow places us above other species, making us more deserving of survival, and gives a right to control them, when, in fact, we have are not above other species; we are not more deserving of survival; and have no such right to control them. Again, these are fabricated ideas, erroneous justifications made by us to serve our interests.
The genetic differences we have from other species does nothing for us except to render us more capable of influencing our environment and other species.
I am sorry, when a monkey can do physics, calculus, brain surgery, or dare I say it... run the white house better than Obama (Since he is the worst, good benchmark)... THEN, AND ONLY THEN will I consider them a mere 2% different than us ![]()
"The genetic differences we have from other species does nothing for us except to render us more capable of influencing our environment and other species."
-.- Your lack of understanding of standard biological and evolutionary principles is disheartening. And mother nature has done a much better job at taking out species on her own. We pale in comparison. ^.^
"in fact, we have are not above other species; we are not more deserving of survival; and have no such right to control them. "
So does that mean you consider yourself on the same lv as a common cockroach? -.- Actually that would answer a lot of questions. ![]()

Now now flint, you should be used to it. After all nobody was more incompetent than our previous president. We could have gotten better results from a monkey tossing his dung at targets on a map and watching him scratch his arse on national TV when addressing the American people (actually we did see plenty of that too now didn't we?).
@Xeno
Let me get this straight:
Are you arguing that we should now abandon organized civilization and revert to living in isolated states of existence?
Yes, but only because we have the technology to create self-maintaining robots to do all work that needs to be done, allowing all human beings to live in free OGLUs and not work.
"Are you arguing that we should now abandon organized civilization and revert to living in isolated states of existence?"
I'm arguing that the way we have organized our civilization is antithetical to human (and other species) survival.
It's like a family in IC. Sometimes you random into a top ranked fam, with fam bank, good, well organized fam forum, good communication, an IRC channel, good leaders, etc. That fam does well during the round.
Other times, you random into a bottom-ranked fam, without even an exploration thread, no fam bank, no teams, even, and a leader who takes all the fam income and res for himself, declares an expo-war without fam knowledge or agreement, and you can't change leader because you have a bunch of inactives with their votes stuck on him.
In the latter case, I would argue fam members would SURVIVE the round better by going SS.
I'm all about SS! Not in IC, but this thing you loosely call the world!
Again, Fanscali, I'm just not getting what you are trying to say. Maybe rephrase, or think more before responding?
lol. I'm being insulted by a dumb kid. It's almost cute!
Xeno: Using your metaphor what you find is that we are in a mid-ranked family, where the basic fundamentals of a bank, chat channel and threads in forum are in place, but maybe not being used in the correct manner. In which case going SS is not the best bet, but working with what the fam has and making it work better, more effiicent and defining the focus a bit better...

With a fam leader intent on perpetual petty wars all the time, who rigs the democratic process by using shadow player-accounts and setting those accounts votes to him, a leader who doesn't listen at all to his fam members, and makes decisions which sabotage the fam, the fam breaks into teams / SS players. This is just the natural way people deal with such an occurance.
Or we can get rid of that leader....
You can't, because every leader you get uses the same shadow-accounts in order to make sure he is voted in as leader.
Then it is a fault with the system for picking a leader... societal change is needed, we need ot grow up as a civilization, but what you propose is going backwards and that will never work...

Sweet. Now, questions:
A: How does research and development continue when there is no interdependence among people? When a physicist has to spend his time working out in the garden to harvest food, how does he efficiently develop technology?
