Topic: Rules

Welcome to the Roleplay forum! There are a few simple guidelines that our community strives to follow.

The number-one guideline: please respect others' work. Many of the manuscripts found herein are the product of weeks, months, even years of careful authorship, collaboration, polishing, and refining. Even for those of us that can whip up posts in a single session, we still feel an attachment to our work. We all appreciate constructive criticism; we do not appreciate destructive or derogatory behavior. Please keep that in mind.

If an OOC thread exists, please use it. OOC (Out of Character/Context) threads are created to keep extraneous discussion out of the main story thread. It reflects poorly upon the image of a roleplay or story if its main thread is interrupted needlessly by stray comments.

Godmoding, or the assumption of powers within a roleplay on an uncharacteristically large scale, is heavily frowned upon. Keep in mind that the best stories are always reasonable in scope. Adopting a heavily skewed sense of scale may be fun for the one doing it, but more often than not causes severe discontent among other participants - not to mention often making the story's quality that much poorer.

Please keep these simple guidelines in mind during your time here, and enjoy your stay! smile

The old thread got nuked by the forum wipe. This is its replacement.

Post here if you need moderator intervention; for example, if someone has double posted or is deliberately attempting to trash your roleplay. Please delete outstanding requests once they have been fulfilled to avoid clutter.

In the future, global resources for the Roleplay community will be placed or linked to here.

[Mods: thanks for stickying this for us big_smile]

Re: Rules

You're welcome tongue
Firstly, allow me to give you the link of the ICRoleplay forums, where most of our senseless talking happens and to which you are invited to contribute as much as you do in here. Let this fresh start happen in both forums and hopefully encourage many to once more bring life here big_smile

Re: Rules

Some more resources for the RP community.

[There used to be a link to the ICRoleplayWiki here. The wiki is no longer up.]

We also have an IRC channel (#rp) on the Imperial Conflict IRC server. Due to its real-time nature, it's a place to brainstorm with fellow RPers, or perhaps do a few 'real-time' events as well.

Re: Rules

Here's a couple of old RP sites I've found in some of my forum backup notes:

The Lost Tome - http://www.geocities.com/icthelosttome
Player Rebellion - http://playerrebellion.6x.to/

IRC channel - #rp

Re: Rules

This post used to contain a direct IP link to the now-defunct ICRoleplay forum. If there is interest in re-establishing the forum, of course, it can be done at short notice.

Re: Rules

I think a universal rule for this community, simply to have it on record, should be 'no godmodding'. Just a thought

Done.

Re: Rules

Let's work on adding some real rules to the Rules thread. I've updated Post 1 with some basic guidelines. Can we add to / improve upon those?

Re: Rules

I like the basic outline. When I, or any body else, think of things that may need to be added (usually through encountering them) I'll post and we can continue to build smile

Re: Rules

The link for the player rebellion is old btw. I'm sure i'll get around reposing the whole thing sometime. I've just completed about 30 pages of new reference material for the whole universe. Everything from who and Dark are and where they came from, to detailed faction information for the Argonians (my race), the Dark, and several others. When I get the time i'll post something about it.

Re: Rules

De-GenerationX's latest post in "Space: The Third Story" contains no story material, only comments.  An OOC thread exists for this roleplay, so the extraneous post should be removed.

Re: Rules

Lizon.. For the Player Rebellion site you had..

I got this:

Error 404 - Not found

The document you requested is not found.

Any time frame when the new one will be available?

Btw.. I pulled 50 of the 98 origional posts off an archive service, and I have a majority of it on an old computer that I have yet to load the data off of. It was a pre-usb hub computer.. lol

I remember on your site you didn't have the last 15-25 posts for it due to the crash, but I think I also have some of the text files origionally wrote that on. Anyhow, i'll post more about it whe nI can.

Re: Rules

Insignificant has two unconstructive posts in the "Space: The Third Story" thread that do not contribute to the roleplay and thus should be removed.

Re: Rules

http://lizon.uuuq.com/

This is the site for the entire player rebellion series. I'm uploading the original story as we speak, this is broken down into 12 chapters, over 119 pages of work. I'm considering re-writing the whole thing to make it more concise and fluid. Remove the old link that's posted here.

truth be told, the PR story stole from every sci-fi, fantasy story plot known to man. ^.^

Re: Rules

One thing I would like is clarification on profanity usage, because the various countries on this board have different views on the matter, and I think this forum might have a swear filter, I'm not sure.  But I was wondering if there was a a guideline on that front?

"They are calling to us, can you hear them?... It's beautiful," Lieutenant Nathan Hale.

Re: Rules

To answer Hoitash's five-month-old question: to my knowledge, the roleplay community has never provided specific guidelines on usage of profanity, so Board Rules apply, much as they may be inconvenient at times.

The reason no forum-specific guideline has been drafted, methinks, is that any community-drafted guideline on the topic would conflict with Board Rules. IMHO, in a perfect world, anything would be fair game so long as it constituted prose of the level of quality we seek, at least in theory, to foster and uphold here.

I'd campaign for a forum-level exception, but right now it's not really worth it...

Re: Rules

I tried a couple of times.
But was unsuccessful, probably because I was alone.
I did this after I reread some old posts and saw 2 words of profanity edited out, ruining the moment and paragraph.
