Topic: Nations of Power - Chinese Study

I think you might find this all very interesting, as it was done by a Chinese study, yes CHINESE, so no American Bias being put forth, this is how they see it based on many factors...

Pay attention to the Gap in points between #1 and #2 then pay attention to the point spread on all the nations, then choke down some sort of foolish interpretation as to a nation of power, superpower, hyperpower.

"World's most powerful nations (ranked according to GDP, military power, diplomacy, capital strength, technological power, natural resources, human resources, government coordination and control capability, information and communication)

1) United States - 90.69
2) Britain - 65.04
3) Russia - 63.03
4) France - 62
5) Germany - 61.93
6) China - 59.10
7) Japan - 57.84
8 ) Canada - 57.09
9) South Korea - 53,2
10) India - 50.43

Korea has been ranked the ninth most powerful nation by the Chinese government's top think tank, the Academy of Social Sciences.

The U.S. was predictably in the top spot. China came sixth, one level above Japan. The CASS released a report on Thursday which ranked countries in nine areas -- GDP, military power, diplomacy, capital strength, technological power, natural resources, human resources, government coordination and control capability, information and communication -- with the average in each field determining a country's overall rank.

Among the top 10, the U.S. came first by a long chalk with a composite national power index of 90.69, followed by the U.K. with 65.04, Russia with 63.03, France with 62, Germany with 61.93, China with 59.10, Japan with 57.84, Canada with 57.09, Korea with 53.2 and India with 50.43."

That looks like a 35 point spread between the U.S. and GB, then a 15 point spread between GB and India, amazing how, the spread is... it clearly shows a DOMINANCE of Global understanding as it should pertain to power.

The CASS report looks at current numbers, it's not a prediction for X years in the future. And the US government is lacking in social welfare, and management of it's citizens. The report doesn't look at that. Therefore, this report can't be used to defend against "OMG AMERICA IS FALLING APART".

Social Welfare ? OOOOO Socialism, yeah that worked out well for the Soviets didn't it?

You can't build a tower with out a strong base, and that base must be built to withstand some weather, all empires come and go, America is no different, in time it will fall down, and another shall birth, but not in my or your Generation, and the demographics i see to reach are those who think American is falling apart, today and in the now.

Re: Nations of Power - Chinese Study

Look, social welfare may be fine and dandy, but this is a question of a nation's influence.  When the US and EU are negotiating military agreements with nations, those nations don't say, "You know, I would normally object to this treaty, but they've got such a nice welfare program... aww, what the hell!  Give me the pen!"

(You probably didn't mean it this way, but I had to say it.) tongue

Re: Nations of Power - Chinese Study

just because the US has a strong base doesnt mean it will last long. in today's world all it takes is a nuke or two getting in the wrong hands, and the American empire is destroyed. The US is also the most hated country and the most likely to get nuked. As nukes get into more and more people's hands, the number of governments the US can push around with its sizable millitary and economy will shrink and shrink.

Re: Nations of Power - Chinese Study

1- A better source please
2- How were the points awarded? Does it mean that an european union would have more than twice the "power" of US? Which things were the more important?

Re: Nations of Power - Chinese Study

Where the hell does that tell me how the points were awarded? what did they mean by average? how was diplomacy judge? what do they mean by technological power? what did the evaluated in human resources?  how did they gather the information?

well, those are the types of questions you should be asking, not "How were the points awarded?"

Re: Nations of Power - Chinese Study

I don't care if the source is reliable according to you, I'm just stating that a Chinese source recognizes this as such, I've seen over 50 variants of the top 10 most powerful nations, the only thing the have in common is the United States being in the #1 spot.

"France is stronger than Germany? I have doubts about that..."

France spends far more attention to it's armed forces than the Germans. And it's not like the German armed forces are being used for anything other than weak kneed caveat peacekeeping.

Re: Nations of Power - Chinese Study

The French pwned the Germans at Jena during the Napoleonic Wars. It was utter humiliation, and it secured the French victory against Prussia.
