Topic: NEW TOOL: A10's family threat calculator.

It's a simple tool scripted in javascript.

EDIT NEW DIRECTIONS: Go to the rankings page. Click families sorted by networth. Copy the data that looks like the example:

1    Cereal Killers (1117) (x:29,y:26)     8    8800
2    (1122) (x:38,y:32)     8    8800
3    (1121) (x:39,y:58)     7    7700
4    Samurai Warriors (1111) (x:14,y:1)     7    7700
5    (1115) (x:49,y:36)     6    6600
6    CEREAL EATERS (1106) (x:15,y:47)     6    6600
7    (1114) (x:4,y:1)     6    6600
8    (1104) (x:58,y:12)     6    6600
9    (1119) (x:26,y:43)     6    6600
10    (1113) (x:10,y:38)     6    6600
11    (1116) (x:36,y:48)     6    6600
12    (1108) (x:47,y:26)     5    5500
13    (1110) (x:52,y:54)     4    4400
14    (1120) (x:23,y:54)     4    4400
15    (1118) (x:9,y:20)     3    3300
16    (1112) (x:19,y:30)     3    3300
17    (1107) (x:40,y:10)     3    3300
18    (1109) (x:19,y:16)     3    3300
19    (1103) (x:4,y:29)     3    3300
20    (1105) (x:59,y:38)     2    2200

paste this into the calculator. Type in your families number where prompted. Also type in the galaxies dimensions where prompted. Click calculate.

You'll get a distance calculation from your home system to all the other home systems so you can see what family is closest and is the biggest threat.

EDIT: Here's the new version. Now accounts for the warp and different size galaxies.
Also changed the look of the tool :-)

Added a button for reseting the calculator for a second calculation :-)

Refresh if you don't see them.

Re: NEW TOOL: A10's family threat calculator.

kool tool

suggestion:

When the results come through it should be sorted by how close they are.. it gets confusing to have to look between them..

EDIT: also the only time this would ever be usefull is BOR to possibly choose allies etc.. because once people expo etc then ANY family can be the next biggest threat..

Re: NEW TOOL: A10's family threat calculator.

It doesnt use the wrap.

Yeah good Idea. I changed that and uploaded it along with some fancy sentances.

What do you mean?

Re: NEW TOOL: A10's family threat calculator.

The galaxies wrap. So if one family is on the far left side of the map and another family is on the far right side of the map, it would take X amount of hours to go from the far left, across the middle, and to the right. But because the galaxy wraps the travel time is Y which is the distance between the two fams if you went left from the furthest left family. The time would be dramatically shorter.

Thats to explain it (If you can understand me tongue)

I can understand that.
But that's cuz you talk funny like me.

In essence, you're saying that just like the board game Risk, the far left (Alaska, part of North America) can reach the far right (Kamachutka or whatever it's called, part of Asia) far quicker by going off the board to the left and "wrapping" around to the far right, then going across the middle to the far right.

Now, am I less understandable than you? smile

That's exactly what he's saying and I found that easier to understand.

And version 0.5 now accounts for the warp :-)

Would anyone not mind hosting this?

Now added a Reset button. Fun to make the tool. Even if it is a little useless.

Re: NEW TOOL: A10's family threat calculator.

In the past we used to make a mapgen file, then add the home systems of all families and then press sort tongue

The ranking page no longer lists home systems.  You need to type the home systems of each fam then format.  It works like a charm. smile
