Topic: Triangulum Post-Round Discussion

With the galaxy finished, I figure this might be an opportunity to collect some feedback.

Did you like the galaxy?  Is this something you'd like to see more often?  This was initially a joke galaxy idea we had, but personally, I thought it was quite fun to have a silly one-planet galaxy.

What changes would you recommend?  This was somewhat cobbled together because it was a joke, but if we were to take this idea seriously, changes could be made to make the galaxy work better.  If you want to see this again, suggest some changes to make the galaxy work better.

Re: Triangulum Post-Round Discussion

Fun concept. Would definitely play again.

Middle part was boring though. Except for the rain of ops that hit me daily I had seen little attacks. Round should be shorter or it should be made more attractive to attack.

Distance to that 1 planet should be equal.

Give the prize planet a better bonus to make it more attractive to fight for early

Define winner as most ticks in possession to make it more attractive to fight over.

Re: Triangulum Post-Round Discussion

I also enjoyed it - better than SN

Agree with Lightgun's ideas - shorter round, everyone 1 tick from planet - or everyone is 1 big family with 1 extra planet in home system? What is max size of a fam/system?

Re: Triangulum Post-Round Discussion

I had a lot of fun. I had to do some rather nasty things to my infra to take the planet from light guns.

Increase the starting resources. It was a very slow start. Make all players equally distant from the exploitable planet.

Re: Triangulum Post-Round Discussion

I dunno, I actually liked the starting resources.  Ridiculous scarcity of resources was sort of the whole theme of the round.  Maybe it's just me, but I thought forcing people to not even have enough resources to build their home planet added quite a bit more challenge than simply saying "here's stuff, build your home planet, whatever."

Re: Triangulum Post-Round Discussion

Enjoyed it, but yes distance should be equal. And maybe everyone has a whole system of planets that cant be attacked of equal size and same type, one iron one endu etc etc

Re: Triangulum Post-Round Discussion

Agree with Zarf. Not having lots of resources made things better

Re: Triangulum Post-Round Discussion

agree with above.. equal distance would be great.. i was 6 ticks away, going for the planet would be a waste of time as all the other active players where alot closer.
Being all in the same family doesn't solve it. that makes everyone portalled in the same system and would take the fun out of it i guess.
Everybody on a 3 tick range would be best IMO.

5 planets per HS would make more different strategies possible and will bring the total NW up what is reachable in 1 round (building cost will reduce alot, i was on 1300% OB after 2 weeks)
Having more NW at your disposal brings the NW gap down which should give us more action throughout the round.

Not sure if it's possible to have HS with 5 planets and the free system with only 1 planet.

Biggest problem with 5 planets per hs is we had 74 families but only 23 players. That means 51 systems with 4 extra planets each.

Something that's probably impossible but might make it highly interesting is doubling the size of the home planet. Then your overbuilt costs won't be as high and expo will be slowed down.

Re: Triangulum Post-Round Discussion

We might be able to leverage the KOTH map to make people equidistant from the planet...at least within 2-3 ticks of the same (I was 11 ticks from the planet this round:()

What if to slow down the capturing of the new planet, we created a dummy account that a moderator would give an exploration ship to along with resources to get it sent out...the mod team explored the new planet built...say...50 lasers on it, and put that account to sleep just logging in often enough that it doesn't get auto deleted.  That would keep someone from exploring the new planet too quickly and force everyone to decide if they want to establish their income or go after the new planet asap.

I'm with Zarf on the resources.  Sure, we could add planets and starting resources...but the entire point of the round was scarcity...

No need for delay in a shorter round i.m.h.o.

Re: Triangulum Post-Round Discussion

I don't really like the idea of the shorter round.  You don't truly feel the scarcity until your planet is 500%+ ob and you're trying to decide if you want to build 1 mf or 3 cfs

Re: Triangulum Post-Round Discussion

MOD team
Half built planet 5 ticks
Explore planet (1 tick best case)
Built lasers (8 ticks)
Total time 14 ticks

Me, camaar
Built trannie (12 ticks)
Take planet at tick 13

For MOD team to beat me they have to put alot of gc into construction, not miss a tick and be at 1 tick distance.

Re: Triangulum Post-Round Discussion

Don't worry, mods can cheat enough to make it work, considering we're talking about a non-competitive account meant solely to ensure fair gameplay.

Can we remove that from the game completely...?

Yes, but I'd argue against it.

Re: Triangulum Post-Round Discussion

10 days from now probably, they still need too close SB and reset the galaxy, open it up and let it fill up with 30 people before round can start.

I think this round showed that the random fam joining system needs too be overhauled too. I saw a lot of people trying to land in a specific family. May I suggest that if you join a fam, idle/ask to get killed off after 48h so you can try to random where you want to land. To give those players a buffer of like 7 days before they can rejoin again when their empire gets killed off? If they got removed while being at one planet?

Just throwing this idea out there..
