Topic: A History of Slavery, the history not taught in schools

In history the first black slave in America was owned by Anthony Johnson. Yes the first. Originally there was a practice of indentured service, where you were 'owned' in a manner for a period of time but then were free afterwards. Anthony had been indentured but finished it. He bought some land and got an indentured servant.

The first slave was John Casor. He had been indentured but claimed he was past his indenture. Another man threatened to help John and somewhere John ended up indentured to the new man. Anthony sued and John ended up becoming a slave instead of indentured.

Irony abounds, as the first black slave was owned by Anthony Johnson, a black man.

"Einstein", it feels like you are saying this in a bid to rid the guilt of your ancestry.

Infact, it doesn't matter if the first black slave was owned by a black man.

The more important matter is the millions of slaves that were owned by the white man.

Re: A History of Slavery, the history not taught in schools

nope, my family was at Concord bridge, where one died and the other was wounded. I have no guilt. I am also part Indian (yes I can say that!) and I have no anger over the past.

History is... history. We cannot gain by ignoring it, nor can we gain by politicizing it. By learning it we learn to avoid repeating the problems of the past.

Re: A History of Slavery, the history not taught in schools

Sounds more like your attempting to start a racially overtoned arguement of who started what.  If history is history, sounds more like your pushing shit in the face of african-americans and getting in their face to say, "Oh look here, the first black slave was owned by a black man, what do you have to say about that."

Slavery has been around since before 1 AD.  Indentured slavery has been around since 3,000 BC as traced by China.  So for 5,000 recorded years, men, women and children have lived the lives of slavery.

White's owning blacks, blacks owning blacks, egyptians owning hebrews...I really don't see your post in to much of a historical process.  Your post reads like your trying to start shit.

It's already been proved that certain african tribes, would hunt down members of other tribes and take them to be bartered.  But even today there are young girls who are raped, beaten, drugged, kidnapped, and forced into servitude.  And that's world wide.  So slavery still exists.  However that is not being tought in schools either, about the slavery now.  How workers passports are taken from the employees that hire from other countries, and forced to work seven days a week, with little to no actual pay.

Yah, looking at your first post, makes it look like your trying to shove shit towards the african-american community.  Crap like that usually is spouted by republican members of the senate who then usually have to issue an apology a day later.

=^o.o^= When I'm cute I can be cute.  And when I'm mean, I can be very very mean.  I'm a cat.  Expect me to be fickle.

Re: A History of Slavery, the history not taught in schools

What Flint talking shit and acting like it is some big deal that only he knows the truth of? Say it ain't so! I couldn't believe such things about Flint.

See Flint's family history means he is expertly qualified to talk about how the suffering of millions means nothing because it was a black man who first owned a slave, ever!

Re: A History of Slavery, the history not taught in schools

There is only one truth: We didn't live back then!!! Its a simple truth yet everybody ignores it if it suits them right.

Maybe one of my ancestors [w00ps] the other in the **se with a club. Am I victim or aggressor now? Get real.

Are Americans responsible for everything that happened in Europe pre discovery of America as well? Or am I as a European? Was it after the vikings or Columbus? It is far, far beyond retarded to say it is anyone's fault if he wasn't even alive back then.

Re: A History of Slavery, the history not taught in schools

my ancestors came to America as penniless immigrants seeking gold and slaves

and they found plenty of both big_smile

of course they were Spanish.  By the 1840s everybody agreed Gold and slaves didn't mix.  That's why California became a free territory and then a free state -- nobody was gonna bust a gut panning for dust downstream of some cracker with 20 slaves, paid in food, shoveling mud into a sluice trench.  They banned slavery in the interest of "labor peace"

I'm talking about 1920's history, you know I love that ol' stuff, but amerikan musik before those dates was shit, only when they listened to blak people they started doing dezent sounds.

What about John Philip Sousa??

Re: A History of Slavery, the history not taught in schools

Slavery is thousands of years old, all races did it, and black slaves in America weren't the last to be freed. There are still slaves today.

The current chapter of the history of slavery in America is that the topic is being used to distract people from the fact that Americans today are being made into slaves more and more with most new laws passed. 40,000 new laws take effect in 2014! That's the modern history of slavery.
