Topic: IC Development Idea:

I hear a lot of people say that IC lost a lot of developer power over the years.

However would IC not be the perfect game for student developers to have a crack at?

I mean if you approached a top university or game developer training place and you told them the history of IC, told them the issues with IC, and then set them a challenge to work on an actual playable game as a proper project but also study and give them a list of ideas / bugs and so on, then the students themselves would have a new project that could be added to their final work and portfolio and hopefully IC gets an awful lot fixed / changed for free.

I am totally unsure how it works to be honest but I am assuming that you could just give them a copy of IC on a hard drive and say "here play with that" and basically see what they come up with, say "there you go re-vamp our game and bring it up to date please" if we don't like what you do we can stick with the old one, if what you do is much better then FTW.

Would it not be possible to approach the top 10 game development universities and say:

"Here develop our game as a challenge / study tool / student project"

If what they come up with is bad stick with original, if its good then awesome

Re: IC Development Idea:

I know I don't really understand this.

There would be entire development departments full of students who would jump at the chance to develop this game (for free) just for experience, just for something real to put in their portfolio.

Maybe I'm wrong but if Stefan gave permission could just get students to totally re-vamp his game, would still be his property or whatever just a re-vamped newer version of the same game.

If you really wanted you could run

Old School Galaxies
New Game Galaxies

I am sure developers could even put a roll back switch so could just flick between versions

If it was me I'd be straight to the best development university I could find, would head straight to the head of that dept and would ask them for help, give them the game background, and see if their student would be interested in taking on the project (a live project) a proper project not some made up theory, not text books and lectures but a real design.

If they mess up they fix it, or if they mess up hit delete and roll back to the original.

Re: IC Development Idea:

I agree with Rare

hell this has applied to where I work too once we started working with the university's on projects

It would give  them real world experience and challenges

how to make games work on mobile
How to improve games
how there coded

and would bring in new individuals hopefuly

Re: IC Development Idea:

Its a very good idea. Gives students the chance to have a challenge at their work and see what ideas they can come up with to fix it. I think not 100% sure though, this is something that Stefan himself would have to authorize with him owning the game and some Developers don't like sharing their coding with other people.

Re: IC Development Idea:

stefan will say no. stefan allways says no tongue

he is protective of his code...it took alot to get past devs in tbh....he is not going to let "strangers" in tongue
