My initial thought was one where the police are not so incompetent and the people are not so violent that they NEED guns for protection.  Yours works too though.

Should I bring up the amount of registration and control we have on those guns?  In Canada if you own a gun you are not allowed to have it loaded in your house.  It must be kept in a locked case with the ammunition in a separate locked case in an entirely different room.  That is LAW here, don't ask me how that ever gets enforced I have no idea, but I'm assuming if someone ever broke into your house and you were able to get a shot off they'd be arresting you instead of the guy committing the actual crime.  That's one example of the many, many, regulations and limitations we have on gun ownership.

Should I also bring up the fact that those guns are primarily held by a small portion of the population for HUNTING.  Canadians buy guns to kill animals, Americans buy guns to kill other Americans.  Not saying there aren't Americans who hunt but like in Canada they are a small portion of the population.

Which means that based on ratio of population to amount of guns owned, there are a greater number of Canadians who own atleast one firearm compared to Americans who own firearms, thats legally of course. There are no statistics for black market firearms, but if the raids that happened last week were any indication, the GTA police are a helluva lot better at shutting down black market firearms then American.
