Topic: Learning for learning sake

Mostly because I want to keep the motivation thread focused on that I have a question, hence the name big_smile, is learning just for the sake of learning worth it?  Haven't you ever taken a say class that was useless at the time and now years later it seems useful?  Or conversely now still is utterly useless?

I'm going to be nicer promise

Re: Learning for learning sake

I'm definitely of the opinion that learning is always worth it - regardless.  Nothing beats a person who continues to learn their entire lives :-p

Re: Learning for learning sake

I took the history of japanese art, when i have a science background, beause it seemsed fin.. it was and it has no use, so the question is irrelvant.

Take classes which get you the degree you want or you enjoy. Very little classes will be that useful i nthe real world anyway, however the processes you learn and the background knowledge you will haev on various subjects will help you be a better whatever and more employable...

Anyone who claims that education is pointless lives in some backwater area and has no real world understanding.

Re: Learning for learning sake

If learning is always for the good, then go memorize the German train records in 1912. Then tell me how useless that was.

Re: Learning for learning sake

learning != memorizing

Re: Learning for learning sake

Well you haven't learned anything if you haven't memorized anything.

Re: Learning for learning sake

Yea but memorizing is just one kind of learning. It's the "learn 1000 words" kind. Good when you are supposed to... learn 1000 german words tongue

We are called Homo Sapiens, which means Thinking Man, which means we have a reputation to think of, a name to live up to, so... Yes. smile

Memorizing stuff is bad, mcay. You need to understand things, mcay

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

Re: Learning for learning sake

teach me to understand the alphabet

Re: Learning for learning sake

Perhaps there comes a point when you should begin spending more time with your own creation and discovery than with learning.
