Your thoughts... How do we stop stuff like this happening? More to the point why is it happening do u think its blind hatred towards the US or does this go deeper is it part of Jihad? Or is it a civil war about to break out in Iraq?

Re: Baghdad office bombing kills 10

this has been analyzed inhere a lot, no? smile

If i recall it the middle ground was something along the lines of; despite all the (more, and less succesful) attempts at pacifying a turbulent region and (more or less) altruistic good works the US are doing in Iraq, a lot of people still are rather upset about their country being invaded for multiple reasons and for all practical reasons governed by a nation they're not particularly affiliated with.

Apart from that; "The US blames Shia muslim militias"
They're practically all muslim in Iraq. How about: "The US blames Shia militias". The only thing most people will probably recall anyway when reading the article is: "The US blames muslim militias".

Re: Baghdad office bombing kills 10

you stop it by pulling the troops out of iraq, yes, it's happening because of hatred towards the US, because these people have been brought up in a war where everyone around them raised them or made them understand what's going on and they chose to hate the US due to this war, and now they're doing something about it

i'd say it's a war against US troops in iraq, given the civil war band

*gets ready to be flamed* big_smile

Re: Baghdad office bombing kills 10

hatred towards the US, lol.

do you have any clue of the geopolitical situation in the rest of the third world, or even european inner cities? it's called tribalism, and it's as old as Cain and Abel.

secondly, the majority of the violence is caused by foreign insurgents, although not this particular instance. the US staying as long as it has, and giving support for the locals to stand up, organize and defend themselves is what has stemmed the violence.

pulling out doesn't solve instances like this, because the friction between the tribes will still be there when the US leaves.

and believe me, i would love if the US was not there, but we're beyond that point.

if you look at ramadi and fallujah, and al anbar province in general, you can see the success of the marines in those areas.

Re: Baghdad office bombing kills 10

atleast you agree, going in was a mistake, and i think the largest portion of problems were caused by them going in and the largest portion of problems would be solved by them pulling out :S

that's just me though, you're entitled to your own opinion.

Re: Baghdad office bombing kills 10

If you make a mess you are obliged to clean it up before you take off...

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

Re: Baghdad office bombing kills 10

i can only again suggest an arab peace force wich could replace the US forces.
I think the acceptance of e.g turkish soldiers would be way better then US troops.

Re: Baghdad office bombing kills 10

as long as you don't statione them in the kurdish region ^^

"secondly, the majority of the violence is caused by foreign insurgents"

it is said so often.. but are there any official numbers?
i only find things like:

"In contrast to the comparatively small number of foreigners, more than 25,000 inmates are in American detention centers in Iraq. Of those, only about 290, or some 1.2 percent, are foreigners, military officials say."

" About four out of every five detainees in American detention centers are Sunni Arab, even though Sunni Arabs make up just one-fifth of Iraq

Re: Baghdad office bombing kills 10

the thing about foreign fighters i got from a former iraqi gunny sergeant (or their equivalent)

there's two types of violence we're facing, the intertribal friction and the foreign insurgents.

i've heard some startling things about chechnyan snipers
