Re: Mafia 39: Living in the West was harder than you think!

Pete Spence was glad that he hadn't had to leave camp these past few nights.  Though he knew he would never be accused of being a brave man, even cowards got bored.  So when he looked up from the fire and saw Sheriff Behan approaching him with a small wax paper packet in hand, he knew that excitement would be his tonight.

Wyatt was a blubbering wreck of a man as he sat at his desk tearfully writing letter after letter, an almost finished bottle of whiskey in front of him.  He had never met Sadie's parents but the letter to them had been difficult still.  Wyatt signed his name, folded the paper and slipped into the envelope a last hot tear splashing down to wet his right hand.  He had one last letter to write, and for this he needed to  be semi-sober.  He walked into the back and started a pot of coffee.

Outside, Pete watched Wyatt walk away from his desk.  He deftly opened the window in front of him and emptied the contents of the packet into the 3/4 empty glass tumbler in front of him.  He nervously looked around him to make sure that no one had noticed his actions, closed the window  and fled on foot into the night.

Wyatt returned and banged the metal coffee cup down onto his desk.  He opened the top drawer of his desk and withdrew a final sheet of paper and an accompanying envelope.  "Dear Warren...", he began.

Several minutes later, he laid the letter on top of Warren's desk.  Wyatt looked down at the cooling coffee on his desk and thought to himself, "There's no way I'll get that whiskey back in the bottle.".  He poured the contents of the glass into his cup of coffee and hastily swallowed the mixture.

He grabbed his stack of letters and crossed the street to the Post Office, feeling his stomach clenching in pain.  After slipping the mail into the night drop box he turned toward home feeling lightheaded and unsteady on his feet.  He took 3 shaky steps and collapsed onto the walk, his limbs and torso jerking spasmodically.  Wyatt took a final shallow breath and lay still.

Wyatt Earp (Oxygen) is now dead.

The next morning Warren came into his office after tearfully identifying Wyatt's body, and saw the letter on his desk.

"Warren,

If I die tonight it's time for you to grow up and be a man.  I've already taken care of things with Marshall Dake, and in the event of my death he will come to Tombstone to assist you as your deputy.  Tell Sadie's parents that I loved her very much.  The rest of the pages in this letter contain my investigations and evidence so far.  Don't mourn me brother...avenge me! Remember that time when we were kids and went skinny dipping at the watering hole in Peoria..."

Re: Mafia 39: Living in the West was harder than you think!

Voting Wendy. The way she's trying to stay in the dark makes me pretty sure she has a role - possibly even GF.

"Wendy:

hmm got no real clue this early ,so gonna vote for Freezy."

Also voted Torq on a not really good basis the day after. He might just as well be mob. But for now - vote stays on Wendy.

Hopefully get a chance to talk to a few souls and see whats been doing though.

Re: Mafia 39: Living in the West was harder than you think!

I'm voting for Keerb. Reasoning: His votes so far have been for Arby (who was a confirmed townie) and twice for xara (who arby had convinced me was a townie). He then changed his vote from xara to Poley, stating, "Agree with Arby. Voting Poley." The problem with this is if he agreed with Poley why wouldn't he have voted for Freezy, which is who Arby was voting for? Trying to protect his mob buddy perhaps. There is nothing concrete about this, but I strongly suspect him.

So to summarise:
I vote Keerb

Re: Mafia 39: Living in the West was harder than you think!

I vote Xara

i just think shes been acting very mobbish without chatting.

I know some of you say shes know to only be active with a role, i think its a good "ploy" for which she could use this round as mob.

“Im’ma kill him!” he screamed turning red in the face, “Nobody talks to me like that and doesn’t end up in a pine box!”

Torqez had been in town earlier to get some supplies for the ranch and see his girl that worked at the saloon. Immediately following his rendezvous with her as he was casually walking down the stairs he bumped into Hank Hafferty who grinned crookedly at his girl saying “Wal now lookie here, we got ourselves a right fine queen of the night. Why don’t ya leave pig sticker here and mosey on up to the back room with a real man.” Instantly feeling his face turning red with anger Torqez stepped in between his girl and Hank Hafferty putting his finger in his face “You yellow-belly rattlesnake!” he hissed between gritted teeth, “If you so much as lay a hand on her I will put a bullet in ya!”

Hank Hafferty not one to be shown up instantly drew his weapon. Torqez never really stood a chance and was staring in shock as the piece was thrust into his gut. “So, you gonna shoot me eh? Seems to me that you may have bitten a piece of hide off the wrong bull here mister!” Hank Hafferty stated tersely, “Why don’t ya walk right on out of here and git on your hawse, then ride on outta town like a good cowpoke before I plug ya a few times!” Torqez knowing he stood no chance quickly slipped down the stairs and towards the saloon door pausing to look back up as Hank Hafferty put his arm around his girl’s waist and walked towards that back room chuckling.

Immediately Torqez stormed out, got on his horse, and headed back to the ranch. He was seething with anger but knew that he was no match in a fair fight with Hank Hafferty due to his sheer speed with a weapon. He rode his horse hard all the way back to the ranch and stormed into the house confronting his employer about the situation.

“Im’ma kill him!” he screamed turning red in the face, “Nobody talks to me like that and doesn’t end up in a pine box!” His employer tried to calm him down with reasoning but nothing would work. Torqez was too full of anger and hate that all he could see was red and his employer knew that this day would end with bloodshed; likely Torqez’s blood. Torqez stormed out of the house and headed for the hands quarters searching for his rifle. If he could not beat him in a fair draw situation then he would just take matters into his own hands and catch him when he was not ready. He knew the law would be after him but he figured he would just skip town with his girl and find a new life somewhere farther west where the law was not quite established.

His employer, SSL, had not always been a rancher. In fact, he had at one time been a gun for hire out east and was well renowned in some circles as being one of the fastest guns alive. Knowing that Hank Hafferty would likely kill Torqez in a fair draw he decided he would take matters into his own hands and get Hank Hafferty to draw on him so he could kill him without the law coming after either him or Hank Hafferty. He went into his bedroom, opened up the chest at the foot of his bed, and strapped on his pearl handled Colt 1877. It was getting dark and he knew he needed to get into town quickly to do this when most people would be either sleeping or drinking in the saloon. He mounted his horse and headed off for town not seeing that Torqez had already taken a horse and headed for town as well. Upon arriving in to town it was already dark around 2 hours until midnight and he figured Hank Hafferty would be in the saloon having a few drinks after everything that had happened.

He casually walked in to the saloon and then paused upon entering, searching for Hank Hafferty. He located him on the right side of the bar with a beer in one hand and his other arm wrapped around some girl. “Probably Torqez’s girl.” He thought, “Well, I suppose it is time to conclude this nasty business.” He strode over to that part of the bar and ordered a shot of whiskey, then turned to glance at Hank Hafferty who was already looking him over. Hank Hafferty knew who he was and that Torqez worked for him so he had immediate disdain for SSL. SSL took the shot of whiskey in one quick gulp barely wincing at the burn. Once upon a time he had been a hard drinker to go along with his gun slingin days. He ordered another shot and then told the bartender to leave the bottle. He wanted to try and make sure he could bait Hank Hafferty into initiating the conflict so he would be in his right to kill him. He took a few more shots of whiskey and then pretending to be fairly drunk he stumbled and knocked into Hank Hafferty spilling his bottle of whiskey all over him.

Angrily, Hank Hafferty shoved him back “You stupid drunk cowpoke! Why don’t ya watch what yo’re doin before I rap you over the head with a bottle!” SSl had achieved exactly what he wanted in angering Hank Hafferty and decided to push the issue just a bit. “Look here you dog, if you know what is good for ya, you will just keep your mouth shut and leave it be.” He stated plainly. “Gawd knows that I would hate to have to show you up in front of all these people in here.” Hank Hafferty was seething now. Nobody had ever blatantly challenged him like this before in front of so many people and he knew either he would have to deal with it or forever be branded a coward. “You better come outside right now mister, cause I’m gonna shoot you and I think that it would be best if we did not involve all these people in here.” He said.

Instantly a hush came over the saloon as people overheard the altercation and they made way as the two involved made their way to the door and into the street. SSL walked out into the street a dozen paces and then turned around to face Hank Hafferty who was already standing low with his hand hovering his pistol. They both stared intently at each other while all the people in the saloon crowded the windows and doors to see how it would play out. Suddenly a shot rang out.

Hank Hafferty fell over dead, a bullet having struck him right in the heart.

Torqez had been hiding on top of the church waiting for Hank Hafferty to exit the saloon and killed him when he was standing still. Nobody had managed to see him and, therefore, were not sure who the killer was. They just knew that in the end the gunfight they were all hoping to see would not happen.

Hank Hafferty aka Keerb the loyal townie was dead.

Note: Torqez was used solely for the purpose of the story. Since he was involved in the lynch, he was used as the killer.
