Re: New galactic map!

The old map will shortly be replaced by a new one. It looks somewhat like the old one, but has several new features, such as the abiility to make custom lists of star systems, and easily share these with your family members. The intent is to no longer have external tools be almost required to play the game well.

It is a work in progress, and much remains to be done, but we feel it is at least ready for use. However, the old map is still around, now linked from the HQ page. Should you have problems with the new map you can still use the old map.

Note that as of this time, Internet Explorer users will be redirected to the old map. We are working on making it available for IE as well.

If you are using the Dilithium sidebar you will also be notified in-game, as well as receive a quick tutorial on the new map. This tutorial is also part of a recently added introduction that all new players receive when they first log on the game.

Suggestions for improvements, and bug reports, are all very welcome.

Re: New galactic map!

Seems like we have an issue with the Family and HQ screens reverting to other families.  Working on a fix for this asap.

As this was a bit of a security thing (ingame-wise), we've had to go and delete all Leader Messages so as not to reveal anything to enemy fams.  Sorry for the trouble!

Edit:  This is now fixed, courtesy Stefan!

Re: New galactic map!

The new map features which were previously for VIPs only are now available to everyone. A nice Christmas gift from Stefan. Thank you Stefan!

Please remember, it is basically in a beta stage so to speak and we are working on making it run smoothly as soon as possible.

Right, so what are we waiting for?  Can we get this going?  Any other feedback?

Re: New galactic map!

A small Christmas update:

* The galactic map can now show your fleets.
* Colors for your own and family lists are now saved persistently.
* The map is slightly less demanding.
* Mobile devices should now be redirected to the old plain map. The new map is not designed for these. Tablets are also redirected for now.

Re: New galactic map!

Another little update:

* Internet Explorer (9 and up) is now supported.
* Mousewheel zoom now works in Firefox.

Re: New galactic map!

Note: in Internet Explorer, the new map will only work if you use the standard sidebar, Dilithium, for now. This has to do with IE requiring "strict" mode for the map to work, and only with Dilithium can this actually be enabled without enabling it on the whole game (Dilithium does not rely on frames, an ancient web technique, while all the others do).

Re: New galactic map!

Slight update again - there is now an integrated planet view in the new map. Note that not all the functions of the planet view are fully integrated yet, and will simply take you to the old standalone pages away from the map.

Re: New galactic map!

Another update:

* The map now remembers most settings.
* Sending reinforcements is now integrated.
* Sending messages is now integrated. Note that copies are not saved to your outbox at this time.
* Simple mode added - shows stars as simple filled circles, with any shown lists more pronounced. This is more suitable for zoomed out views.
* The map sidebar is now collapsible. Click the border to collapse.

Re: New galactic map!

Yet another update:

* Scrolling by using keyboard - arrow keys and WASD.
* Scrolling by using buttons.
* Events option; for now, shows recent battles.
* Map now remembers opened system.
* Import system list function.
* Export to system list function.
* Various fixes, notably: reserved planets no longer count as unexplored; systems should not pop open after scrolling the map.
* The map is now a bit responsive to window size; sidebar and planet list shrinks on small windows. The standard game sidebar, Dilithium, also does this now, and should be a bit more enjoyable to play with on a small screen (ie, mobile devices).
