Topic: War - huh - good god yall

Well, I was thinking about war and the whole process of when has it gone too far, what is a reasonable length for a war, and how should negotiations proceed etc. My thought was a change with the way the war declaration works.

The idea: War declarations automatically expire after an arbitrary period, say 3 days, at the end of which is a game enforced cease fire for the length of 48 hours. If peace isn't reached inside those 48 hours then declare war again. It gives families a chance to regroup, count their losses, and work out their bargaining position. Also gives a family a chance to get some more shares and portals so the fight can continue properly. I think this would add some interesting twists to strategies, such as a strategy of just trying to hold out until before the time period was up and then raiding in the last few ticks, securing a few planets.

Anyways, just a thought.

interesting, this will stop farming, but only in those wars offcially declared.
Sadly there are many ways to 'war' a small family without declaring war, and leaders in big & coordinated fams know about it

Re: War - huh - good god yall

CF needs to shorten. Shouldnt take any longer than 12-24 ticks for leaders/VLs to decide an outcome.

Too many fams will use the last few ticks to raid and set up position so they can safely portal/LT under the CF. Would more than likely end up causing more farming imo. At worst it would cause attackers to protect cores and limiting spreads so they are quick enough on retakes etc before time ends - limiting targets because of poor spread.

@ Render, it leaves the small family being the one to declare then. Though that would have implications in itself with it opening up the whole 25% rule.

Poley 12-24 tics is not enough, figure the scenary where a family is raided and their only attacker goes afk, but theres a quantam wanting to fight back tho their raid fleets will reach in 30 tics. I think this valiant quantam deserves his fleets reach and be triggered.

Re: War - huh - good god yall

This idea is solely benefitting the family that is winning the war as they can then portal all the new shares and rape even more the next time.  This is a bad idea.

So youre saying you wont want to use that time as a CF but as a retal strike? If your fleets take 30 ticks to travel Im pretty sure it would be more than easy enough to defend against that. Leaving the beaten family to get more of a bashing from all the closer portals the bigger family gained now have because of the longer time waited... Bad bad Render!!

If one of the families is more inactive than the other, then you have a situation where 12/24 may not be enough, but on that point it is open to discussion. I think somewhere between 24/48, as it would give families time to sort stuff out including agreement within a family as to whether to pay or keep warring. And yes, people could portal under the ceasefire - giving the smaller family that was cleared away from the bigger family the chance to explore in their cores and set up to raid their bankers. Yes it works both ways, but if the family is too small then they can always choose to not negotiate and 48 hours would give them back their protection under the 35% rule.

I think I cover this, with allowing the losing family the chance to gain better position (possibly). Further, if for example before the war there was a core NAP, during the ceasefire the losing family could use the time to infiltrate these core systems and set up to raid bankers etc.

It's not a fully formed idea by any means, but feel free to contribute to it if you see ways it could be improved.

Re: War - huh - good god yall

Most CFs youre barely given 2-3 ticks to sort it out. Maybe a touch longer if youre lucky enough to pull the "Were just waiting for leader to log on" story. Personally I think 12-24 is long enough for the smaller fam to set up some sort of retal/clearing/opping war, if say the bigger fam wont agree on a proposed NAP, but not long enough for the bigger fam to push down harder on them by portalling new shares/saving with the superior eco to gain more fleets for secondary attackers etc...

Just my opinion though.

24 could be the useful point, but it would require some trial and error I think.

Re: War - huh - good god yall

I'm not sure how to fix it, but my family just lost 500 planets in 2 ticks to a fam 20 ranks ahead of us.  In the interest of the game attracting new players this has got to stop.  It's actions like this that make the game not fun.
