Re: Solving Sovereign Debt

For the record, I'm not ignoring your post, xeno.  Just waiting to get the full response (I'm pretty sure that if I respond to this half before you finish, I'll end up inevitably forgetting something and confusing both of us in the long run).  Not that I'm rushing you... just wanted to make that clear.  We've got plenty of time.  tongue

Re: Solving Sovereign Debt

Crisis in Italy!!

How can berlusconi get laid now?

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Thanks, Zarf,

Many things on the go...

I appreciate your patience.

Re: Solving Sovereign Debt

Zarf, I don't know what it is (maybe the format of the forum), but responding to your lengthy post, and then re-responding to your replies, since there is no format to be able to follow the discussion reply by reply, etc., seems tedious.

I will get to it, but to be honest, it seems like a chore.  If the forum was designed a bit differently so as to allow for the detailed, multi-faceted discussions that I think we would both like to do, it might feel less like a chore.

Re: Solving Sovereign Debt

I know exactly what you mean.  I've thrown out 3 different massive posts just replying to your last giant post.  tongue

Re: Solving Sovereign Debt

It's funny, actually; there is no forum system I am aware of that adequately addresses the needs of the the debate forum poster...

Re: Solving Sovereign Debt

Well, there is, assuming "needs" means "encouraging the person to leave the computer and do something more productive than arguing on the internetz."  smile

Re: Solving Sovereign Debt

I vehemently protest your attack on the art of debating.  Grr...  Shall we start a new thread on the value of conducting debates on internet forums?

Re: Solving Sovereign Debt

If you can't afford it, then you shouldn't buy it.

If it's beyond your means to pay, then don't take the debt.

Most government that buy up debt, hope to use it over someone's head for leverage.  That's a pretty piss poor way to run a government if you ask me.  Holding someone elses debt, not to so much that it's worth something.  It's just used to hold over another person's, or government's, head.  In order to bring pressure to bear to put someone into line with whatever you want.  That's all debt is.  Doing what you want others to do.
