Topic: Italy in trouble

Good thing for me is, I don't need to explain, everybody here in politics has seen the news. smile

in short for people who accidentally clicked this forum:
Spain is in trouble of renewing its debts. That's a problem as Spains econ is comparable to greece, irelands and portugal together.
Italy has an econ comparable to greece, ireland, portagual and spain combined.

If Italy fails, it will cost much more to save. Germany is tired of just doing that.

Point of debate is where it goes from there.
Will the Euro stand or become the N

Re: Italy in trouble

People always feel they deserve the easiest life they can be given. If that means spending the wealth of future generations then so be it. The only reliable way to get unpopular measures like fiscal conservativism through is to invent a big bad that forces your politicians to behave responsibly even in the face of massive public support not to be responsible. I always considered the tactic New York used (well it may be an urban myth I dunno) to climb out of its budgetary mess to be a good one, which was that if the books were not balanced accountants would come in and start making cuts for the politicians, no matter how painful or unpopular those cuts were.
