As promised, IC Mafia is back!!

The following are the characters in this game. These will be allocated at random to those who sign up (yes, my magical random spreadsheet is back!!):
- 7 mafia members (1 Godfather, 1 corrupt Mayor, 5 mobsters)
- 1 serial killer
- 1 doctor
- 2 police officers
- 1 deputy mayor (pro-town)
- 1 secret role (pro-town)
- 1 secret role (alliance unknown)
- 10 townsfolk

= 24 players

Only the Godfather and Mafia will know who the other mobsters are. Everyone else will be in the dark.

**** NIGHT PHASE - WHO DOES WHAT? ****
Each phase of the game begins with the night. The following can happen during this time:
- Before the end of the first night, the Mafia must elect their godfather. The godfather is the leader of the Mafia. He, together with the other mobsters, will decide on person to kill each night. He will also choose one of them to conduct the kill. The Godfather has the final say in any Mafia night decision. He will also appear to be innocent to police investigations and is immune to being killed at night. If the Godfather is lynched, a new Godfather must be elected by the remaining mafia by the end of the following night.
- The Corrupt Mayor has the ability to buy another town member's vote. This basically means to force one person to vote for someone else. By the end of the night phase, the Corrupt Mayor must specify the person he wants to bribe and who they should vote for. By the end of the day phase, that person MUST vote for who they are told, else they face being murdered.
- The serial killer is a madman who kills one person every night. He works alone. He is immune to being killed at night and if investigated by the police, will turn up innocent. However, if the doctor chooses him to be healed, he will be cured and become an ordinary townie.
- Doctor chooses one person to spare in the event that that person is chosen for death by the mafia families or serial killer. If the doctor tries to heal the SK, he will be cured and become an ordinary townsperson. The Doctor cannot heal himself and he is also forbidden to heal the same person two nights in a row.
- Police officers can choose one person to investigate between them at night. They will then be told of this person's role. They can do what they like with this information but revealing it may make it obvious they are police and make them a target for the mafia. Note that investigating the Godfather or Serial Killer will return innocent results.
- The Deputy Mayor counters the Corrupt Mayor by having two lynch votes in the Day phase. His first vote is made in the normal way, but his second vote is made in secret.
- The pro-town secret role is secret!
- The alliance unknown secret role is also secret. However, if this role is "activated", details of the role will be revealed to the town. This person is then immune to being killed at night.

**** DAY PHASE - LYNCHING ****
During the day phase, the town will find out who has been murdered. All townsfolk (including the Mafia, the serial killer, doctor, police) can then vote who they think are the mafia. This is the lynching process. There will be a deadline to which the people must vote by. If there is a draw, the deadline will be extended and voting will remain open for those who have tied. If there is still a draw by the new deadline, there will be no lynch. Once the result is in, the person will then be dead and their role will be revealed. Then that round is over and night begins again when the night roles make their next choices.

All votes must be made in the forum in new posts (do not edit old posts).

**** WHO WINS? ****
The godfather and his Mafia will win if they manage to kill everyone else off. The serial killer wins if he is the last person alive and the rest win if they manage to kill off all the Mafia and the serial killer.

**** RULES ****
Everyone is allowed to post in the thread to discuss who they think is mafia or try to make themselves less suspicious (if they are Mafia!). You may NOT quote any part of messages sent by the game moderator. Doing so is regarded as cheating and will result in your sudden death.

If any townsfolk miss the lynching voting on at most 2 occasions, they will be mod killed and replaced with a reserve. If no reserves are remaining, their role will be removed and revealed. Reserves will no longer be used after the 4th night.

If you die, the game is over for you and you are not permitted to discuss the game with any of the people still playing. Doing so will result in a ban from future games. Please don't spoil it for everyone else.

Deadline to do this is 18:00 GMT on Tuesday 28th June.

Once the deadline is reached, I will use a random Excel formula to pick our players and 1 reserve and will publish the list below. Role descriptions will be sent out shortly after and we'll begin!

Again, you cannot sign up if you are forum banned and you need to be IRC active to play.

**** DAY ****

"Catch, Rex!"

The dog pricked his ears up expectantly and jumped excitedly from side to side as he watched Lauren throw the ball.

Lauren was happy. She had wanted a dog since she was a little girl and was completely shocked when her father, the town Mayor, surprised her with a beautiful golden retriever as a fifteenth birthday present a week earlier. Both her and Rex were inseparable and had grown a very tight bond after a week of playing in the gardens of the Mayorial residence.

Rex picked up the squishy red ball and ran back to Lauren who stepped backwards and prepared for a longer throw. "Go long Rex!" she said as she threw the ball with a lot more strength than she meant. The ball glided through the air and landed somewhere in the small wood at the end of her garden. Rex, as alert as ever, darted after the ball and ran out of sight into the heart of the wood. "Rex! Come back" Lauren shouted as she started jogging towards where he dog ran.

"Rex?" Lauren called again as she walked slowly into the wood. She thought to herself that she'd have to ask her father to get the groundskeeper into this place to tidy it up. The wood had long overgrowing grass and tall overbearing trees which obscured the sight of the Mayor's house the further she stepped in.

She found Rex close to the middle of the small wood lying down beside an oak tree. The red ball she had thrown a moment earlier lay on the ground next to him. The dog was yelping and whimpering quietly. "Oh what's wrong boy? Have you hurt yourself?" she asked. As she knelt down to stroke his mane, she felt that his fur was slightly damp. She looked at her hand which was now covered in a bright red liquid. "Oh my god!" Lauren gasped as she stood up and stepped backwards in shock.

The sound of leaves rustling behind her made Lauren spin around and she gasped again at the sight of a man standing a couple of metres away dressed in a smart black suit with matching tie. In his left hand held what looked like a kitchen knife stained with the same bright red liquid that was on her hands. She keeled over and was about to scream out when a strong pair of hands grasped her from behind and put a gag around her mouth. Tears streamed down her face. Rex continued to whimper in pain.

"Don't bother screaming" the man said. He had a deep and gravelly voice with a hint of a European accent, possibly Italian. "We're not going to hurt you.... much... will someone shut that bloody dog up!!" he demanded. Another man seemingly appeared from nowhere with another knife in his hand. Lauren clenched her eyes together and sobbed into the gag as her poor dog was put out of his misery.

"Now now Lauren. Open your eyes" the man spoke as he touched her face. She slowly opened her tear stained eyes and saw that a number of other men had joined them. "Bring me the branding iron." One of the men handed him an iron rod with a distinct brand on the end. "Light the fire, we need to get this hot enough to burn through the skin. Time to send her father a clear message."

The Mayor was sitting at his desk reading papers when he heard the front door open and close. "Lauren honey, go get yourself cleaned up. Dinner will be ready soon." Rather than the usual moaning that came after he says those words, he heard sobbing and looked up. "Lauren?"

He stood up and walked around his desk into the main hallway and clasped his eyes on his daughter. Lauren's clothes had been ripped, her skin looked dirty and bruised and her eyes were bloodshot. "Oh dear god".

It was then that she broke down, bursting into full blown tears and collapsing in a heap on the ground. That was when he saw it - the hair at the top of her scalp had been totally shaved off, leaving a patch of searing burnt skin which formed the shape of a familiar family crest the Mayor had not seen for years. "Oh dear god, oh dear god, oh dear god...." he mumbled amongst his daughter's cries.

*** NIGHT ****

The town hall buzzed with whispers and rumours on why they had been called to meet. Residents of the town had all gathered together at the request of the Mayor who had called a town meeting to discuss some important news. Everyone was invited from the town doctor, to the police officers, to just regular townsfolk.

The noise died down when the Mayor stood up from his seat and walked towards the mic.

"Good evening town residents. Thank you for turning up here at very short notice tonight. I have called this emergency town meeting with some news that will sho....." Suddenly there was silence as the mic died as if the power source had been cut. The Mayor looked to his right at his puzzled support staff and then back at the audience who were staring back at him just as puzzled.

The hall then plunged into darkness....
