Topic: 2008 Summer Movie Guide

I plan on seeing a ton of movies this summer. I consider myself a fair critic and will not lead you movie goers astray as I continue to update this list! big_smile

Iron Man -

(Billionaire Tony Stark builds a technologically advanced suit of armor to fight terrorists and supervillains to save the world)

The thing with superhero movies is that you have to judge them differently from other movies. In terms of Spiderman, they've done a superb job with the spiderman series. Its incredible how the actors have transformed the comic and cartoon star into a big screen phenomenon. Now with iron man, I think they didn't take as much of the giant leap as they did with spiderman, but I think they definitely did a great job of avoiding a flop like that first incredible hulk movie. That movie was crap. Iron man had some great special effects, the characters did a good job of bringing the personalities to life. The story was pretty realistic in a sense and frankly that suit was cool as hell. On a 5 star scale with 5 being the highest and 1 being the lowest, I'll give iron man a 3 and a half. It didn't "wow" me, but it was a good movie and nice introduction to the summer blockbusters.

What happens in Vegas -

(ashton kutcher and cameron diaz play a couple of strangers who go to las vegas and accidentally get hitched. They are forced to stay married for 6 months by the judge before they can apply for a divorce. They discover that they despise each other and spend the next 6 months being the roommates from hell)

I was forced to see this movie when I wanted to see iron man but I was pleasantly surprised. For a chick flick, it was still pretty funny (even though I think cameron diaz can hardly still be considered hot) and had a great plot and story line to it. Ashton kutcher proves why he's a good A-list celebrity because he really brings the movie to life. Cameron isn't bad either, they make a good pair when they team up together. I wouldn't mind seeing the movie again but I definitely won't be paying for it =p Maybe when it comes out on dvd I'll rent it or something. Anyway from my 5 star system, I'll give it a 4.

Made of Honor -

(Tom Bailey is in love with his best friend Claire. But Tom has a fear of commitment and refuses to admit the obvious--he should propose to Claire before she finds a less procrastinating suitor. When Colin, a rich Scotsman sweeps Claire off her feet and asks for her handin marriage, Tom must witness her unquestioned happiness up close and personal--because she's chosen him to be her Maid Of Honor)

Another movie I was forced to see the 2nd time I attempted to see Iron man. This one wasn't really as satisfying as what happens in vegas. But it wasn't a nightmare to sit though either. Tom is the hotshot stud who gets any woman he wants. His best friend claire is the only genuine woman he knows. The woman he can be himself around. The one who gets to be sad and lonely while he tells her about all the women he's slept with. Unfortunately, while he loves his friend, he discovers that he's IN love with his friend. As fate would have it, she gets engaged to a scottish hunk who pretty much is perfect. I didn't really care for this movie because it was just wayyyyyy too cliche for me. It was funny and the story wasn't awful. But it just didn't sit too well with me. They could've done some other things to spice it up imo. The story ended itself halfway through the movie. The rest was just stating the obvious.

I'll give it 2 and a half stars. It was whooooo big_smile and not neccesarily booooooo X( but more so meh -_-

Re: 2008 Summer Movie Guide

I've heard nothing but bad things about "what happens in Vegas" tongue

Re: 2008 Summer Movie Guide

lol of course there will be contradicting views, but it was fun to watch.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull -

(Harrison Ford plays Indiana Jones once again in the 4th installment of the series)

I loved indiana jones growing up. I've watched all the old movies over again in anticipation of the next flick. I loved indiana because he was the total package. Good natured, rude, university educated, handsome, great fighter, etc. etc. what more can you ask for? big_smile The quests he goes on are always super interesting in a historical sense (fiction or not) and the fights and escapes he gets into are always realistic. Sometimes luck, mostly brains, he's just a fun action hero. Now this movie has indiana at a very old age. Harrison ford does a superb job in this movie and doesn't seem to lose a step. With great actors you can see their committment and dedication in their work and with Indiana Jones pt. 4, harrison's talent shows. Unfortunately it seems that Spielberg and Lucas didn't really show the same effort. While the movie was good, it just didn't seem Indiana worthy. I won't ruin the story, but the crystal skull isn't what you think it is and frankly I was a little bit disappointed at what this adventure was about. I'm not being hard on it because I'm expecting a great sequel, I'm being hard on it because it was just the directors going through the motions.

Overall though, it was a good movie and great acting from harrison. Nice effects and a decent story. I'll give it a 4 star rating. For a person who is going to see it without ever seeing an indy movie, they should be overall pleased.

They exist, strangely enough.

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

You Call Him Doctor Jones!!!

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.

Re: 2008 Summer Movie Guide

I'm dragging my friend along this afternoon who hasn't seen any of the first 3! yikes

Btw, I thought Iron Man pwned the Spiderman films! Imo too many special effects ultimately spoil a movie. In the case of Spiderman, that was what happened... I think it was way too overdramatic and corny. Iron Man on the other hand, was completely more understated and actually had room for character development.

Edit: Oh and the product placement in both films was cringeworthy!

Re: 2008 Summer Movie Guide

well I still think spiderman 1 was the biggest opening superhero movie ever! Ironman was better than the other 2 spidermans though =p

i couldnt agree more, i guess there arent much ppl who didnt drool over spiderman and/or the chick in that movie

till the end of time..

Re: 2008 Summer Movie Guide

I only saw the 2nd spiderman movie...i wasn't really a spidey fan and that was obviously for hardcore spidey fans

they gave doc oc a wife just to kill her off and make him extra sad...I thought Doc Oc was just some jerk with 4 cybernetic arms who wanted $$$$.  Didn't need to create a psychological profile really, just "first you get the arms, then you get the money, then you get the spidey"

and drowning a fusion reaction in water...hoo boy

that movie looked like Spidey was searching for people to take his mask off in front of

I want a live-action Superfriends movie.  It would have the Justice League versus the Legion of doom and show Luthor spending $20 million to steal $500,000 but the Superfriends move the earth back in time to prevent him from being born.

Re: 2008 Summer Movie Guide

lol I have a saying. If a movie isn't promoted 3 months in advance. it likely won't be a very good movie. Hancock looks like it will be funny and enjoyable. Won't be spectacular though. But a good evening a the theatre. The Mummy series is coming out with a new addition in august. So far it hasn't had much advertisement so I'm not getting my hopes up. Batman should be great. I'm really looking forward to that one. Next to spiderman, batman is my favorite superhero of all time big_smile

Re: 2008 Summer Movie Guide

I've seen films with huge amounts of promotion that sucked so much I wanted to scratch my own eyes out with a fondue fork. Correct your saying.

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

Re: 2008 Summer Movie Guide

lol Eltie, I didn't say movies with lots of promotion were good. I just said that if a movie isn't promoted within a sufficient amount of time for ppl to get interested, it "likely" won't be good! ha! owned! you owe me 2 tanks of gas! X(

Re: 2008 Summer Movie Guide

I'm just saying the promotion of a film is irrelevant to how good it is X(
