that's perfectly sensible
they might cull infants to restrict the number of extras--I mean, the population

But however, it still seems odd that 75% of all reconnoitered stargates seem to be located in very similar open fields bordered by pine forests ![]()
well, like 90% of the stargate locations are worlds with inferior technology. on earth, they used a crane to move the device, on other worlds they don't have such a thing. also, in other worlds the humans living on them typically view the the aliens as Gods, and might be forbidden to touch it, let alone move it.
the small populations could also be explained by the Aliens killing some of them... they would want to prevent an uprising like what happened on earth and cull the populations.
the bad guys in the franchise all kept their populations numbers down due to constant warfare or culling, with low technological development being a side effect from their subjugation to false gods or constant resetting due to the culling;
naturally the ori also kept their follower's technology extremely low tech, the only thing I find incredible is that they also seemed to be fairly low in numbers whereas they would have preferred as much followers as they could afford because it gave them more power; but then we didn't really see much of the ori galaxy so for all we know the ori did maintain a much higher population level than its intrinsic technological level could ever hope to maintain (in which case it's going to suck to live there after the events of the last SG1 season)
yeah I mean if we find alien life on some of these new planets I'd cull it
cull it by remote control Daleks fitted with cesium isotope "cameras"..EXTERMINATE! AHAHAHHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAH
ahah
heh.
Remember most of the.planets ruled by the goauld the local pop wouldn't want to be around the gate when things come through. Local pop wouldn't be able to understand the way the gate dials without being taught by a goauld. And most of the time when things came out it would mean your going to owe a tribute or there is going to be killing.
Really its the goauld who retard advancement on planets with humans. There are a lot of planets who have cast off the goauld and advanced pretty quickly. The tollan are probably the ultimate example (rip :-( )
The Tollan also advanced because they didn't have the Church to keep them in the Dark Ages.
the only gaping plot whole in stargate is the same one in most sci fi shows of its type... almost every planet they go to speaks perfect english.
In SGA almost every planet looked like Canada.
earth does
I watched the first episode of season 2 on hulu. It was worth my time.
Second episode is out now.
And Canada is obviously the best place to live on so all the Stargates are based in Canada-esque places.
brutal bit in 2nd episode inside the shuttle
Only real piece of acting from the show so far. Usually it's fake drama blah blah. That was actually a serious time (i was somewhat tense even knowing it was show, lol)
I find the acting in SGU top notch for a TV show to be honest... the technical writing and screenplay is even better. I get annoyed at the overly dramatic elements of the show as much as the next sci fi fan, but as a TV critic I have to say that their conception and execution is always good.
New aliens! My guess... The Ancients enslaved the Furlings as navigators on their ships and covered up by saying they were unmanned (not unfurled...)
unfurled... roflmao
More like another alien race found out about the the ancients(which is unlikely) or that they picked it up by accident. Because AFAIK the ancients never went to anywhere but the milkyway and pegasus(and their original galaxy)
They had to have gone to the Ida galaxy also. Thats how the Asgard had a Stargate on their homeworld (when O'neill downloads the database the first time and gates to the Asgard homeworld in Ida)
A piece that is bothering me is the timeline of Ancient technology. The Destiny is supposed to be really old, it's got the oldest gate design, old systems, ugly design. Yet it's got the Kinos and a gate remote that shows nearby gate addresses and dials the gate. From what i gather the Destiny is around a million years old.
So how is it the million year old ship has older gate tech and such then the Atlantis city ship and all of the ships used in pegasus by the lanteans?
"The city itself is capable of space flight, and originally resided on the surface of Earth, on the continent that became Antarctica. Between five and 10 million years ago the Ancients left Earth with the great city, bringing it to a planet in the Pegasus Galaxy."
5-10 million years ago for Atlantis to move. But the Ancients had already seeded Milkyway with stargates prior to the move, so the MW stargates are all at least 5-10million years old. Which means, based on gate tech, the Destiny ship and it's seeders should all be considerably older.
a. you were lied to
or
Destiny isn't older, it's just got really bad interior decorators
c. Stargate writers don't understand the concept of a timeline (which isn't surprising from these writers...)
Destiny - "Extragalactic Ancient exploratory vessel launched from Earth several hundred thousand years ago"
In the second episode of SGU season 2 the manifestation of a disappereared doctor on Destiny states that Rush has forgotten to adjust the shuttle's stamina for the "million or so years" of wear and tear.
Tria (From SGA) - "Half-way through their journey, while caught in the deep void between the Pegasus and Milky Way galaxies, the Tria's hyperdrive failed. Instead of limping back into Pegasus, Helia chose to press on at point 999 the speed of light. Though a million years would pass around them, they would return to Earth in less than 25 of their years."
It states halfway through the Daedelus found them. So that ship had been travelling for 500k years or started coming back to earth the same time the Destiny was launched.... But it used ZPMs and had all those advancements....
d. the studio doesnt care
"Ok now Atlantis will be...midway through the timeline..."
"No. It's the oldest."
"Um, excuse me...it's clear--"
"It's clear we ain't gonna pay you for the SECOND OLDEST space empire. That is like "oh this is almost worth your time fanboys"
"Um no wait"
"If you call it the second oldest, does that refer to somebody else's show?"
"Yeah"
"so your makin money for them?"
"But"
"Listen what I learned producing porn, was, ya gotta be the '-EST'. LongEST, biggEST, OldEST. we're oldest. not older. OldEST."
I disregard your arguements
Someone with Stargate knowledge feel free to post ![]()
what I find unbelievable is, you got this gate that will take you anywhere when you dial the coordinates, and it was found by Americans, and nobody dials 867-5309
They did
It took them to Destiny (9 = 9th chevron) They can't dial it without blowing up the dialing planet...
