Topic: Republican Presidential Prospects

Well it seems that Newt has all but tossed his hat in, and everyone knows Romney is going to. There is going to be a crowdewd field next year for President (from the Republican side, I am iffy if Hillary will run, if she does then I expect 4 or 5 dems to run also)

So here is an early guessing game, and opinion poll

I will edit in names (unless the person is ignored, there is a price for getting on that list) of possible candidates in this thread. We shall talk about the pluses and minuses.

Non-Republican posters are welcome to make real suggestions and opinions, but I will call trolling on obvious stupid stuff.

Now the list:

Newt Gingrich
Mitt Romney
Sarah Palin
Jim DeMint
Sean Hannity
Mike Huckabee
John McCain
Michelle Bachmann
Ron Paul

Now my views on each

Newt Gingrich
He is a fraud, a lifelong politician interested in his own advancement. He has supported RINO's because they were put on the ballot with an (R) and he has a green policy program. He was a Conservative once, but he clearly lost his way. I will NEVER vote for him unless the antiChrist was his opponent

Mitt Romney
This guy has baggage to some. His state, a very liberal state wanted healthcare. This is a 10th amendment issue. They got it, and it sucks. It does not affect the rest of us. He is a solid businessman, he recovered the Salt Lake Olympics, and he has Conservative ideals. He sadly will have issues with those who hate Mormons.

Sarah Palin
The poster child of Real Change we can believe in, she has got the most energetic base of anyone right now. She also has the most effect upon policy for someone not in office. Her Facebook account has more power than the majority of Senators ever will have. The Liberal Press hates her with a passion, and Dems fear her. Her only baggage is McCain, the man who pushed her to the spotlight.

Jim DeMint
While Palin has the loud support, those who look ahead are saying his name so often I am not even going to think twice. He will run, and he may be the next Reagan even. This guy stands at the forefront in many ways. While his name recognition amongst the ignorant of politics still suffers, the man is said in Conservative Circles like he is the only candidate.

Sean Hannity
He says he is not running, but if there was ever a titular head of the Conservatives, he is it, not Rush. He is throwing everything into politics, he is pushing the Republican Leadership to act Conservative. He is organizing event after event and his name recognition is high. His zest makes me think he will run if he has issues with those running or if he thinks we might lose without him.

Mike Huckabee
He is a nice fellow, he has some skills, but I would not vote in a Primary for him. Also he has the 'i came in 3rd' issue for the last primary. Voters will think he has no chance. Honestly I hope he does not run.

John McCain
I hope this worthless RINO does not get re-elected, that would end hi chances. But if he does get re-elected it is a certainty the loser will run, and with a bitter campaign most likely. Get lost loser liberal!

Michelle Bachmann
While no one has put her name forward to loudly I feel she is a person who can decide she may run. Especially if she gets re-elected despite being the #2 target of Moveon, Pelosi, Soros, the Unions, and such (Palin being number 1, even if not listed as such imho)

A strong Conservative she would have a good following before long. Or maybe she wants to be Speaker of the House?

Ron Paul
Dissmissing him would make my day, yet sure as the Earth orbits the Sun he will run, and Libertarians will flock to him. He should do better sadly, due to Libertarians motivations right now, but hopefully his voters won't disappear when he loses.

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

Palin's baggage is that she is batshit insane.

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

I think out of those the only two who should NOT run are McCain and Palin.

I think Palin proved she cannot handle interviews, she comes across as the image democrats would like to paint on all republicans - a shouty non intellectual.

McCain had his chance and frankly blew it spectacularly - when there is clear example of Republicans voting for Obama simply because he is better then the Republican candidate you know you have messed up. Though I hate to say it age is also an issue, many were saying he was too old to run, four years later this would become a real issue.

I have no real knowledge of some of the others, I think dismissing Romney due to his religious beliefs would be foolish - personal belief should not impact on the running of the country (for instance I am Christian but were I to be in office I would not suddenly pass pro christianity laws).

I think love or hate Obama he has re galvanised American politics, many people who did not vote last time (both pro and anti Obama) will be flocking to the polling stations in the next election which can only be a good thing - It was fairly foregone conclusion Obama would beat McCain, I dont think it will be anything like that at the next election

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

[i said this will not be discussed in forums, not even by you]

Sarah has done a few dozen high profile press interviews since. You can be assured leftist media will have as much airtime with her as Obama does with Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, so there is change there to j)

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

I'm worried about who is going to run against The Machine. Hopefully this Tea Party crowd will motivate Republicans to select someone who is actually not fiscally retarded like most in Washington DC.

What I like about Sarah Palin is that she infuriates all kinds of ignorant liberals--and they don't know why, save that SNL and intellectually retarded liberals in the media trash talk her out of hate for a successful conservative woman.

That's not a "like" thing.  Although it may look funny, when the election starts rolling, that can be a big driving force in getting Democrats to the polls.  Not the most strategic move...

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

I wasn't suggesting I support her as a candidate. I just think it's hilarious how many people hate her because she's "crazy," without knowing why they were told to say/think that.

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

I still think the high profile drubbing Palin has gotten from the media (whether you think its fair or not) would make her a poor choice.

Like it or not many people form their views from popular culture and in America it was popular culture that mocked Palin (indeed some even suggesting she was the reason the Republicans lost)

I think the Republican party needs a break from the past and genuinly move forward with a fresh candidate.

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

Flint, ARFeh's post is not trolling.

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

The Republican Party as a whole is acting like the "not-Democrat" party and its stuck in 2008, when Republicans were supposed to champion McCain without being committed to any policy differences.  Each Republican is free to be as liberal or as conservative as they want to be. That's not going to get anything done.

DeMint seems rock solid but he is way too green to be President, hes in his first term as Senator.  Palin is cheerleading Republicans not conservatives.   Gingrich is a liberal.  McCain is a total whore and clueless on the economy.

It's going to be Romney because its his turn. That is how Republicans do things.  It was McCain's turn and it was Dole's turn and it was GHW Bush's turn.  And Romney is very big botched govt.

At a time when outright repeal of an unconstitutional, broken, already over budget, obviously corrupt health care insurance boondoggle is a "fringe" option, the Party is not ready to govern and is not moving towards being ready.

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

Rush Limbaugh is the king of talk radio, he has an empire that moves or shakes, but after his painkiller issues do you think he will ever try to run for office?

Besides he is more of a tear the liberals down than build up the Conservatives type of guy...

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

Rush is barred because of the annual joke about women farding in their cars

and the annual retelling of the disgrontificator hoax where the Devil spoke from within a Slim Whitman record

these things are unPresidential

and Rush wouldn't settle for anything less than the White House

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

Mitt Romney. He is the closest to a moderate conservative (like Eisenhower) of any of the candidates.

I could live with Newt and possibly Huckabee, but I could not stand Michelle Bachmann or Palin. Those two are completely misguided, although I would prefer Bachmann over Palin. At least Bachmann has a law degree.

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

"Jim DeMint"

It's Jim de Mint, spell it properly. sad

Good candidate though.

Je maintiendrai

No he sucks. While I admire he owned his own company, his God waving disqualifies him from my book.

Edit: I love DeMint's speech here:

I'm still not supporting him, but that speech makes me smile smile

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

Now now calm down everyone

Einstein asked for his opinion on the candidates, obviously some people are going to have negative opinions.

That said Arfeh simply saying someone is crazy and running off adds nothing to the debate - bring reasons for your opinion or its you who begins to sound "batshit crazy".

A moderate Republican who isnt too old and looks like bringing the party closer to the middle then the right could do very well at the next election, which of them fits that model best do you think?

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

Well McCain was supposed to be our 'middle' while the extremely hard left guy got elected.

Now it is time for the reverse.

Thanks for the support though.

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

Einstein, you don't think a hard-line right candidate will scare a lot of the leftists into voting? Also will probably get more non-whites on them also even though they are right winged, more if not equal then the current one got.

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

Re: Republican Presidential Prospects

...where's the crowds of people telling me "STFU Balsz, McCain is NOT a total whore"...

guess he "sealed the deal" shooting an ad by the border fence saying "build the dang fence already"
