Topic: Drummer Community... Well, why not? :(

There are always a hundred drummers in every community. I work with as little as twenty people, and three of us have played drums for years. So who here plays the drums?

If you do, why not answer some basic questions? big_smile

Your Kit:
How much would you estimate you've spent so far?
How many pieces do you have, and what are they?
What brands do you play, and why?
Does your kit have a name? No? Come on, everyone names their kit.
Double pedal? No pedal? Latin percussion? Tell me all about your pimped out kit

Your personality:
Who are your favorite drummers, and why?
What style of drums do you prefer?
Do you consider yourself a drummer, or a percussionist?

Your recommendation:
Turn me on to new music with the best drums, PLEASE! All drummers love to pick up new sounds and tweak their style, so what has helped you the most?

Basically. tell me all about drumming and yourself.

Feel free to post links to pics of your kit, we'll see if someone will go through and [img] them for us. smile (I'm not even sure that we can do that anymore, but i presume they can.)

In the way of starter kits I recommend the Tama Swingstar. I still play on mine, and now it's worth over $50,000. (I have a sick obsession with drums... sad) But yeah, the Swingstar will take all the shit you can give it like nothing ever happened. It's fairly cheap, and sounds particularly professional, especially ina studio setting. The guys at Tama definitely know what they are doing.

Re: Drummer Community... Well, why not? :(

what do you call a guy who hangs out with musicians ?

a drummer.

Re: Drummer Community... Well, why not? :(

*rolls eyes* that was pretty lame. lol

although, it does lead to a great topic. the skills that actually are required to play drums. tongue THANKS BEANERS big_smile

I find playing the drums to be particularly challenging myself. Of course you know all your own grooves, and you can come up with new ones on the spot to fit into a bass line, however if you try and play someone else's, its near impossible the first few tries.

There is a lot to be said for how the human mind works. smile

Aside from all that, it is impressive to think of the muscular capabilities required to play an hour long show at 900 bpm with your legs alone. Most people cant even fathom moving that fast, not to mention controlling the functions of four limbs at that speed.
