"he is not in power anymore, and it seems that many many govermental buildings in charkov or donezk are occupied by pro russian protestors. They may be on a smaller scale then the maidan protest but also they are just not really present in our media. "
I don't know about Germany, but they are present in ours. Timetable corresponds to the scale or exceeds it.
"At what point did he loose it?"
He lost it long ago when he decided to strip the parliament of his powers and give it to himself. Only now, with the new gov the power of parliament is somewhat restored. I'm not lying. You can look it up. He had almost total power. He could rule by decree like Putin. Next to that he never had a majority of votes, and he was never voted to become dictator.
"But if the people in the eastern ukrain want to be tied to russia it is their decision. Its not to the west to tell them that they dont want it."
Large bits of the population are fooled by nationalist/anti western propaganda for almost a century what do you expect? I don't care if they go anti-EU as long as they remain a democratic state.
I think we should take a tougher stand on stal... er putin and FORCE him to become more democratic. We should have forced them into letting media be free when we had the upper hand after USSR broke up. We owe it to those people even if they don't realize it themselves because they are presented a blurred vision upon the world. When people where starving in USSR during Stalin many thought they were still better off.
Give Putin the krim if we have to but save the people of Ukraine and offer them a future.
