@TGE
Its not a problem if yell can't prove they cheat. Its a problem when you can not prove they don't. They real question here is if a mater of fate is enough.  For me and yell it isn't. (don't go into the "but you do online banking" thing, it will backfire tongue)

"that's why I come down against online poker. "
That's why I come down against poker in general if you spend real money. You can't really control its honesty in RL let go online.

Its why I'm undecided about it. The free-market side of me likes the idea of a 100% non-gov controlled banking system, but it is used by criminals,  rich aristocracy and oligarchs who exploit their country. That and the huge risk of fraud.

"Anybody who read "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" would see many things similar, especially the stupidity of the Western democracies."
Exactly my thought. I also see many similarities between the former Janoekovitsj regime and the end of the Weimar republiek. They were almost destroying democracy in the same way.

Why would Putin stop destroying neighboring countries if everybody let him? What would ever be his motive to stop? Its almost seems like we want him to enslave large portions of the world.

"he is not in power anymore, and it seems that many many govermental buildings in charkov or donezk are occupied by pro russian protestors. They may be on a smaller scale then the maidan protest but also they are just not really present in our  media. "
I don't know about Germany, but they are present in ours. Timetable corresponds to the scale or exceeds it.

"At what point did he loose it?"
He lost it long ago when he decided to strip the parliament of his powers and give it to himself. Only now, with the new gov the power of parliament is somewhat restored. I'm not lying. You can look it up. He had almost total power. He could rule by decree like Putin. Next to that he never had a majority of votes, and he was never voted to become dictator.

"But if the people in the eastern ukrain want to be tied to russia it is their decision. Its not to the west to tell them that they dont want it."
Large bits of the population are fooled by nationalist/anti western propaganda for almost a century what do you expect? I don't care if they go anti-EU as long as they remain a democratic state.

I think we should take a tougher stand on stal... er putin and FORCE him to become more democratic. We should have forced them into letting media be free when we had the upper hand after USSR broke up. We owe it to those people even if they don't realize it themselves because they are presented a blurred vision upon the world. When people where starving in USSR during Stalin many thought they were still better off.

Give Putin the krim if we have to but save the people of Ukraine and offer them a future.

"yes lol"
I wouldn't know what to answer if you said "no lol".

"but you barely see pro janukovic demonstrations which in fact do happen in eastern ukrain."
But they are on a lesser scale. Which is logical as he is in power.

"Janukovic was a democratically elected president but who cares."
He did away with democracy so he lost his legitimacy.

"Two more or less happy countries are better then one country being deeply divided inside."
Its not that easy. The eastern part holds the majority of the industry. Next to that it would annexed to an autocratic medieval and murderous regime. They do have prison camps like in the Stalin era, only less productive. I'm sure they'll get better in it over the years.

@einstein:
"The smart choice would be to offer NATO status to Ukraine starting in 17 days. Putin would poo his pants."
I agree. Unfortunately NATO acts very poorly atm offering warnings nobody takes serious. sad Its almost as ridiculous as the phone call from the president. If we let any democratic nation down, why shouldn't the Sovie er..Russians invade? Its the medieval way.

@schniepel:
A sollution can be found for the bases Krim. But you can't let down entire Ukraine and that is what they are going to take if we let them. That is a disaster for every citizen there, including the Russians, except a handful of oligarchs maybe if they stay friends to the kremlin.

The extremes, for instance, sell an atom bomb to a firm that wants to protect itself from criminals. I simply did not want to let the debate end up in those ridiculous examples often made by free trade haters. That's all.

Ok, power blocks then. To my defense you spelled country wrong. tongue  On a more serious note, labeling it for export is a small step.

@arby:
Nafta includes Mexico, so its hard to compare to a EU-US agreement even if it only included canada. EU alone has more inhabitants as entire NAFTA. Its bnp is far bigger then canadas or mexicos. US is Europe's most important trading partner already despite the distance between them.

Isn't it a crying shame the two most developed countries in the world don't have a free trade zone already? The economic advantages are huge, and both are still strategic partners and democratic. It would make us both stronger against non-democratic regimes like China or Russia.

I don't care about hormones in meat and any other person who knows something about the subject. We put so much other bad stuff in our animals they light up in the dark but we are afraid of hormones. If that or the GGO's are so bad, just make an exception or have it tested but don't let it hold us back. Its pathetic.  If you want no GGO's you can buy GGO free in the US as well...  I don't understand the fuss.

Tomorrow European minister of trade Karel De Gucht will finally negotiate an FTA in the US. I really hope it gets us somewhere.

As a side note, I'm not talking about weapons or drugs, don't make the debate ridiculous.

edit:
"two most developed countries in the world" replace countries by areas to be 100% correct. (It doesn't matter for this debate at all.) tongue
