I wouldn't go to vote at all because both candidates su...er... don't have my aproval anyway. Tough I'm happy clinton is not a candidate anymore.

letting parties pay would bring forth party politics. One should vote persons, not parties. Else you only have 2 real options.

*edit*
ok I just noticed zarf said it already

good thinking dps.
"So every region has its own military and they are going to be pointing primarily at each other and the possibility of civil war increases"
nobody forbids the presence of a peace-keeping force. In the long run, the climat will change.

"Not to mention neither region would be able to maintain a force to fend off any of the many Middle Eastern nations that would love nothing more than to wipe them out."
It would take more then a small force to protect them against neighbouring countries thats true. And its the biggest disadvantage of the whole thing. But it won't cost as much to have a few bases around when the country itself is peacefull. Though that might be wishfull thinking.

Turkey will have to accept it. And it would do much good Schniepel as it might stabilize the area and therefore prevent a civil war.

Lets not debate the endless struggle about wheter the war was justified or not. There are far to many threads about that.

But fact is, there needs to be a sollution for the future. After giving it a good thought, this is my scenario:

It would be a mess to pull back troops now and end up in a civil war. So keep the troops for now.
I think its best to split the country in 3. Have 3 more or less autonomic regions inside a country or, why not, 3 different countries.
However, the oil fields should be neutral territory and fall into the hands of an organisation wich is controlled by the 3 countries or regions with a fair "key" of sharing the profit they make from it.

Possible drawbacks I see with this plan:
Some people will have to move to another area because of ethnic violence
There will always be some disagreement about the "key"
Some people inside iraq might want to keep iraq the way it is now.

Still I think its worth it. You're thoughts?

@coca:
the biggest trouble for the regime is the pressure between 2 different groops of muslims I think. It creates an unstable climat wich makes any form of regime hard. Its possible for the US troops to establish a saddam-like regime but I prefer not. I think the murder rate of civilians under sadam are highly underestimated.

@BW:
"Leftists use the court to appoint "Activist" justices, who use the court to change policy and law.  When this happens, its extremely difficult to overturn the ruling of the court Legislatively."
thats what I mean by interfering or mixing up of the three powers. If you apoint justices for political reasons, or more specificly to change the spirit of the law so to speak you're doing wrong in my eyes.

"In Belgium, what is the defined function of the three parts ??"
We have the three powers like you have but the highest power lies with the parliament. Thats still democratic because they got elected. However, our executive power is made up by ministers provided for by the winning majority of the ellections in the parliament. They are not voted in directly like your president. Thats one of my big complaints. Next to that, the parliament can give away functions in the judicial organ. A bit like your supreme court seats.

idd dps.
@bw,
They voted the bitch. They had it comming. About the supreme court nominations, its compareble with the system we have in Belgium were the parliament can still give away functions in our lawsystem. I can't believe we are still doing this in this century. The executive and legislative organs should NOT be capable of interfering with the judicial organ.

"And what you say is not true... maybe it were your forefathers who killed all the Indians..."
Non of my forefathers lived in the us at that time so I doubt it. I live in Belgium btw.

"it is not fair to say I had nothing to do with it... that is just washing your hands clean from blood."
No its not. You are not responsible for what people did in the past. That doesn't mean I aprove of those actions. But I did not started them, neither intended to, neither did I get any chance to stop them.

"The Dutchies were bastards too, we killed entire villages for some herbs... and we know that."
you can learn from it. But its not your mistake because you happen to live inside a certain teritory. As I said, a country is not an identity of itself. Its a certain area in wich a certain groop of people live.

Even if there econ goes trough a recession they won't be a third world country for a long time.

"America is just to poorish to achief this"
lefties and righties both think they can. Righties think it will cost to much due to corruption and administration and is a waste of money. Thats were the difference lies. Not in financial capabilities.

"The soldiers in vietnam and the ones now in Iraq are quite the same"
They must have a very good condition then.

"At least they still use the same standard assault rifle ."
lol

"It doesn't matter to wich war you look. In every war innocent people die."
The second sentence hold some truth but the first one is complete nonsence. You simply can't compare them directly. Indirectly maybe. Americans who live now don't have to justify what people did to the indians neither should they take credit for liberating europe.(unless they were there ofcourse). Thats what you get when you see the country as one person and not its inhabitants.

"And the ideals are still the same. More control, more ground, more resources. It is always the same and it will always stay the same."
You want to join the army... Are you a dutchy? Cause they fought/fight in afghanistan. Folowing your own reasoning, that can't be a good thing

I've seen a lot of pro and cons here when it comes to war but you are the most contradictive I've ever met. cngrts tongue

"-aging population:
I don't hold the solution to all, but sure thing is that retirement age will rise, making for longer taxpaying, and the age piramid will stabilise after 15-25 years (when most of the babyboomers are dead). It's still doable."
There's another factor yet. You don't know how long people will live in the future. And 15-25 years is a long long time.

"-generic medicines.
The generic products are only let into the market after the original brand patent expires (making for about 8 years of horribly expensive reimbursment monopoly for the brand). By the time it expires, they focus on new patented products for the same illness and leave the 'old' ones for the generics. However, everyone wants the new, improved, better one, even if it costs more."
idd

"And I think that's healthy (no pun intended). Pharma companies need the money to do the expensive r&d work on new medecines for new and old diseases. It costs us, but I think that's worth it. The generic industry is right behind them waiting to take over the 'expired' market share, kind of similar to a whip to keep it up."
agreed

"- Needless doctor visits
Tricky one, that."
I'm specialised in those wink.

Two aspects:
"1. There's a whole bunch of OTC medicines (over the counter, no prescription needed) available, and any pharmacist will be able to tell you how to use them. However, everyone knows how to treat a stomach flue or lung infection with OTC products, but still you go see a doctor. Will you penalise that reassurance? Will you penalise the chronically ill? Will you penalise the hypochondriacs?"
I wasn't talking about that specific groop. I agree this particular case is justified.

"2. The cheapest doctor is the general practicioner (huisdokter) and serves as a first line help, who can direct you to specialists and who can prescribe reimbursed medicines. I can assure you and can prove with RIZIV figures if needed that they are *very* carefully monitored to prescription and treatment behaviour. So they act very rationally, and don't prescribe or forward uselessly or needlessly. The unneeded visits paid by non-ill patients, though they exists, are  not at all that high."
Maybe. Tough arguably this figure will always be up to speculation. There are a lot of common disseases wich can't be easely detected. Its impossible to control really if they go see a doctor for a good reason or not. The same way its not always possible to control the doctors behaviour on every front. Doctors are still humans and those are known to be materialistic. Saying what the patient wants to hear, as long as there are little risks, results in more clients. More clients means a better income.

Next to that, it is known pharma businesses are behaving more and more aggresive in bribing doctors. I also know this from doctors themselfs. One example I heared: They offer a vacation trip to the champaign area if they prescribe a certain product instead of another. Now it can be a coincidence ofcourse, and a few out of the whole isn't much of proof but I still wonder. It would make perfect sence.

On a more serious note, the program is a joke. They don't make the subject very popular with this. Its almost like somebody who's against it made it. Or somebody really stupid. The calc is scientificly complete nonsence. Especially things like 11.

idd WFS. That and the difference in regime. China has long been isolated, and a lot of them had a decent basic education. There is little comparison whatsoever.
