me too but hey no biggy.

@alan:
The social context,different moral concepts, and public response/pressure can hardly be linked or cathegorised together with  "Stuff You Just Bought Today" or "Say Something About The Person Above - Part 1". I would want it in politics to have at least some political responses as I take this toppic serious. I can't help it it got spammed up. But as I said, no big deal.

@toppic:
He had to step down. He had a lot of negative reactions. Somehow I did foresee this. But I'm surprised how soon.

@yell:
its important you both define what talk about. The ideal imaginary never-existant utopia = final stage of marx, one of the other stages of marx, or countries like eg. the ussr.

If you pick the first one, ironicly, the US undoubtably has come far closer to some communist ideals as eg the ussr on a lot of areas.

@fokker:
He wasn't democraticly ellected and at least you admit last ellections were a joke as well. In any case he still rules on without the vote. There is no change whatsoever.

wereas you said:
"You don't like Putin? I don't like Putin! Does that change the fact that he had to be democratically elected to hold either of the positions he has held?"
the first time he got ellected, he used the secret service to commit a terrorist action so he could invade again. But the first time is debateble. The second time however he oppresed political ennemies. Political rivals disapeared, the state controled press choose side or i.o.w. the media was controled by ones side. Ellection results in less dense areas were known to be often corrupted.

As I explained before, long and clear, he is not ellected democraticly i.m.o.

In any case russian leaders are ruling a despotism and we should call it by its name.

I've already been thinking about the drawbacks of such a system bief, but I did not ment it serious this time. You are 100% right tough. A perfect test is impossible to make, or even a good one. This and the possible corruption makes me feel like its not a workable plan.

The troops should stay, wheter you are for or against the invasion. If you withdraw, the country would fall into a civil war. Then you have 2 scenarios. Either its a status-quo with a lot of bloodshed or one side oppresses the other like during Sadam.

"My definition of democracy is the same as yours and the same as The Yell's and the same as Black Wing's,"
I don't know their definitions. But mine seems to be different from yours.

"the difference is that I don't change my mind when people vote for people I don't like."
I dislike a lot of people who are politicly active in my country yet I feel like they are democraticly ellected. This really could not be the difference between our opinion about what is a democracy.

"You don't like Putin? I don't like Putin! Does that change the fact that he had to be democratically elected to hold either of the positions he has held?"
he was ellected. You can leave out "democraticly".

An ellection proces itself does not make a country democratic. A democratic system is based on the fact that people have democratic control the ones in power. In order to have this form of control
You need: a division of the three powers
You need: freedom of political engagement
You need: free press
You need: freedom of expression
You need: a safe climat for people of different political stances/parties.
While the division of powers is not as it should be
while there is little freedom of political engagement
while putin or putins party control the press and silence any form of criticism
While you can end up in jail for stating your opinion about the current gov
while political rivals end up in jail.

There is a lot of that you find in the western world but never as bad as in russia.As a last point, we don't know how "free" and trustworthy the elections really were.

"Surely I do not see a mod condemning someone for researching both sides?"
It has nothing to do with yell being a mod. Nor his capabilities of moderating the forums. You shouldn't make a debate that personal.

But back to toppic I would ask you react to my claim russia is not a democracy. If I remember well you said it was. Is your definition of a democracy is having ellections? (not putting words in your mouth, just asking)

newb,
No country in the world is a real democracy. However we tend to call a pure despotism which doesn't even come close by its name. The ellection process was a joke.

But even then, ellections as only justification does not make it a democratic system.
