Justinian won't post again in forums ever unless pirate day is removed. Maybe we all should do the same. Organize it Glad. Maybe we should start with not posting on Thursday. Then we stay away for 2 days with the hard-core antiparitedayers.

"we treat them like enemy.. no surprise they get pissed."
We don't treat "Russians" like enemies, but there despotic leaders. They are responsible for Russia being undemocratic after all. There are like what 150mil people living there? Do you really have to kill 20 mil people like Stalin or 6mil Jews? If you let this regime grow bigger/expand you only add to this number. Its very naive to think they won't do it if they have the chance. The Russians themselves are tricked into this by nationalism and propaganda. If Georgia becomes part of the NATO, no more Russian blood got spilled as well.

"I would want same i want for georgia now. Let the 2 provinces decide if they want to be russian or german. the rest of east germany for sure wants to stay german. If those 2 regions would want to become russian.. they should be free to do so."
You haven't answered the question. Would you be ok if Germany (all of it) came under despotic rule? Which would be the case if nobody cared anyway(and IF it was possible ofcourse because germany has a better army). Or be invaded in return? On mistake can't make up for another. Then you simply have twice the amount of mistakes and the second mess would be larger as the first.

@Schniepel:
I don't know where you're from (Germany?) but imagine your country or part of it(east Germany?) got occupied by Russians. Or let us be fair about the debate and lets even say after Germany started troubles with one of their former provinces majorly Russian.

What would you want in the end? A democracy or a Russian-style despotism? Then you sentence to slavery all German civilians because of politician decisions and bloody well know it.

"obviously it's always the russians who are the wrongdoers. anything else is just absurd! not even worth talking about or considering!"
that is no real argument. Thats playing personal.

Seems like people don't fully understand the consequence of having a despotism in a country and are blinded by  US-is-evil-so-everyone-they-have-troubles-with-are-just.

"Thing is, why on earth did Europe allow itself to become so dependant on Russia?"
Nail on the head vis.

"Didn't they see the whole thing being used against them coming from miles and miles away? If not it's stupidity. If so, it's deliberate self-undermining politics."
The last one. It would be electoral suicide to let energy prices increase. Its an crying shame but understandable from political side. Who's to blame really is the EU population who went asleep thinking the supply will go on forever.

There is no destabilization EU yell, if you have any sense. Not even after the shameful performance of the EU leaders on this one.

EU is far from unified, and its very hard electorally speaking to lose energy assurance. If it would be one massive block, they'll be capable to make a fist. Destabilizing EU is putting it in Putins hands. Why does he has a french name btw big_smile

Especially the eastern countries are not quick to let russia do whatever it wants.
