Part of them used to be Calvinist. Now religion hasn't got that much power anymore.

a little educational explanation to give this thread a purpose:

after all this beer, how are we supposed to believe your judgment? tongue

...but without the humor this is a childish discussion. It all depends on your taste or what you are used to. Even if beer might be the only interesting discussion in a Belgian politics thread big_smile

There is over a 1000 different Belgian beers. In fact its uncountable. You have so many differences in taste its hard not to have good and bad beers to almost everyone's taste. What type of beer are you discussing avo?

@bief:
LOL!

@cobra:
We have many, many governments. Its spreads without anyone really wanting it, but still pretending to like them. A bit like Fmods in fact. I first thought our many politicians were used solely for increasing unemployment statistics, until I recently discovered they are not included.

It has nearly tripled in one year time. Now that is what I call dangerous.

I partly blame the obama admin for this:

I don't blame them for this:
Part is due to economic crisis which causes less tax income. That is hardly their fault.
Part is due to the wars.
You need some investment to let the econ recover (tough they overreacted)

But I do blame them for handing out so many of the tax payers money to "save" large companies. Without this, the debt would still be there but it wouldn't be as bad. I understand him saving the financial system, but he should have let big companies in the automobile industry go bankrupt. The main result would have been a change of management instead of a guarantee to more disasters.

true avo, unfortunately.

But maybe people will start changing their minds *if* he falls. The difference with this guy and for instance bush is that this guy controls the media, wich is insanely undemocratic.(with democratic, I mean the control system) Whether you are for or against you have to admit that if bush would have been trialed in the same way and for the same reasons, no way he would have been reelected.

Berlusconi has been found guilty of corruption (again, lol). Incredible. I simply cannot understand how the Italian people keep backing this guy up while he has been trialed multiple times and has proven connections with the mafia. Every time he got trialed again he simply passes another law to get away with it.

I know he controls/manipulate the biggest part of the media but still...how can people be so stupid? Some things in Italy today remind me of the USSR, especially the control of one guy over the media.

What is my score on the big political contest anyway? For those who already forgot: there was a big contest with players arguing about a subject which was picked for them as well as the fact if they were for or against it. It was one vs one and the winners would compete again until their was one

This new gov does lack energy and vision (especially CDU), but I seriously doubt the SPD would do any better. One good thing I see is the traditional parties are not the only players anymore. I hope that results in better governance on the long run. The law that forbids to small parties (was it 5%?) to rule should be abandoned altogether btw.

It depends on the definition of "starting the war" but such a EU report isn't that trustworthy. At best it represents the honest subjective opinion of a few. But often those reports serve another cause.

@tavius:
We need to separate financial and other companies if we want to debate this properly.

Let us debate about companies like GM first. If they get sold out, and no one bids a large amount of money to buy it, it get sold at a low price. Mostly because they cannot rent the money. But that is only a good thing if you think about it. They get a company at low price, without previous debts. They need to lower production and costs till people want to buy more cars again. If they fail in their management -but it can't be worse as the previous staff- they get replaced again. Its a cost but worth the gain.

"The current solution being implemented globally isn't ideal but the alternative of inaction is much worse."
Inaction isn't the only alternative. Also I'm not advocating no help at all. I'm just saying its going way to far, and it keeps the wrong people at the top to guarantee the same future mistakes.
