>>>Expanding borders? I thought it was already well established that Russia simply decided to teach one little Hitler, one little Hitler who was bombing the snot out of Ossetia, a lesson. But you feel free to continue to ignore this little fact, the fact that Georgia was the aggressor and got what it deserved as a result, while you try desperately to spin the facts, I'm sure nobody will notice.<<

If you got your news from reuters and the BBC as well as sites ending in ru.net, you'd know Ossetia is NOT independent, is not asking for independence, is talking of joining Russia, and Russia's puppet President Not-Putin says they'll accept whatever decision it should want to make.

If South Ossetia joins Russia where is the Russian border? Didn't it just move? And by what means?  A: Invasion and ethnic cleansing.  The Georgians are being moved out of Ossetia.

This is me looking surprised (0_0) nothing about this situation makes me look like that, why does it you?<<<

You denied at first that was what was happening.  Now you admit to it but say "so what"?
"So what" is not an argument.

And I only hear the .ru side from you.  "Russia only did what it had to, it isn't doing what everybody who isn't from Russia sees it doing, ok ok it did it, so what?"

>>>You might want to address the issue, that Russia is hostile to US humanitarian aid to a third party country, as if Russia had a say in our traffic with other countries.  I grew up around apparatchiks who parroted Moscow, you need more practice.<

Ah, reality not matching with spoken so let's just call each other names to distract... (

Um read the River and the Gauntlet by SLA Marshall about the battle of the Chongdong river

US 2d infantry division of about 10,000 with some ROK forces routed by a chinese army of 300,000 in a suprise attack

US forces held out on the hilltops until their ammo ran out, then they had to run back two miles to get more.  Whole companies were annihilated, finally US forces fled by destroying their equipment and driving over their own wounded after 3 days of fighting

Phillipines 1942 was also a disaster for 80,000 troops.

Difference is, if TIME had run a special issue HOW JAPAN WILL WIN in 1942 their office would have been burnt down and the editors lynched in the rubble

Newb, if you want this thread closed too you can close it.  Authors have that option

We don't want to see 1 GO PATS thread and fifteen 49s Suck, Raiders Suck, Packers Suck, etc, threads.  If there's already a 2008 Election thread your candidate threads become iffy too.  That's against the rules, as is repeating yourself 4x to annoy people and flaming and demanding mods explain thigns.

This thread was reopened by mods who want 1 thread for all the Biblical, revelations/millenarian hoodoo that's out there.  If you think it politically significant that the Mayan calendars ended in 2012 then post it here.

Russia is a dictatorship by plebiscite.  And Lebanon permitted, and still does, a terrorist group that throws rockets into Israeli cities.  And Lebanon is not even bombed otu of the internal combustion age, as Germany was in 1945.  And the hypothetical proposition was an Anglo-French-German nuclear exchange.

and I think a certain priest is headed for a nursing home chaplaincy.

One priest in my diocese kept giving sermons about what the bishop oughta do.  He was transferred to a desert parish.  Quite small, had no church at that time.  He had to commute around to see everybody in a 4wheel drive truck.  50C 8 months of the year.

Yes please do, only the most pleasant outcomes could result.

>>You might want to be nice to the genocidal nut-job in Georgia, you might want to overlook Georgia attacking Ossetia first, for no reason other than he buys your toys, but for the rest of us we think it better to be nice to the people who behave themselves rather than the genocidal nutters who wave the right flag at the right time.<<

You might want to address the issue, that Russia is hostile to US humanitarian aid to a third party country, as if Russia had a say in our traffic with other countries.  I grew up around apparatchiks who parroted Moscow, you need more practice.

Russia did kill citizens indiscriminately, Russia is expanding its borders by invasion, Russia has shown its own constitution is a joke, Russia has demanded the fall of a democratic government, and Willie is not a Russian puppet which is their whole problem with him.

I'm curious, did you actually do something during the Cold War, something more worthwhile than sitting at Reception looking hard? The reason I ask is that it seems that you are absolutely desperate to go back to those days no matter what the cost, as your wish to fight a war-by-proxy seems to indicate.

The costs of your peace are borne by others, like Georgia.
Why is this at issue? Because Russia, not the US, is expanding its borders by military force.
I thought we'd agreed as recently as 1990 that wasn't cool.
So to me it's not whether -I- want a war, but whether Russia does.

"Perhaps the USA is intentionally trying to provoke another Cold War in the hope that another Cold War will be as good for their economy as the last one? Hmm...
... But that could only work if half the world was at war, with America selling everyone the guns, just like last time."

Again the odd focus on America, America, America and what it does to provoke war by not selling out its friends to the Russian war machine.

">Ask me again when they're in Tblisi after further "provocation".<

Why, how much "aid" does Georgia think it needs?"

One airconditioner or blanket too many, and its curtains for the provocative Georgians and their warmongering friends, the American Red Cross...

Neither Iraq nor Afghanistan require use of air superiority fighters.  They don't even really need fighter-bombers.  It would not diminish our wars in either region to send enough tactical aircraft to wreck the couple of divisions Russia put into Georgia.

"then good luck with WW3 and i will meet you in hell "

praps Brit, Russia will demand more of UK than USA, just the nature of the business.  When they do you may be glad of Americans like me who'd tell them to piss off or die.

"I just dont understand what's the point ? russians could have removed Saakashvili if they wanted to, apparently they did not plan to. So US should not be worried about their puppet being removed."

Sure, that's what I should bring back from this.  A profound trust in Russian tact and discretion.  Hell, I ought to be GRATEFUL to them for ending their aggression so swiftly.  Ask me again when they're in Tblisi after further "provocation".

Can we launch a space shuttle? Do we have Russia's permission for that too?

I don't want to avoid direct conflict.  Let them shoot at our planes and reap death.

"this is what UN security council is for and its permanent members are the de-facto powers that are able to enforce the rules so that everyone plays by the rules."

No, its to make sure nobody is called for breaking the rules, by demanding none of the powers can act without the security council and then always failing to approve action

Because nobody but a military would go into Georgia.

Mailer, if the sovereign govt of the USA wished to send arms to the soveriegn govt of Georgia--we don't , sadly, but we should-- Russia has no veto short of an act of war against the USA.  None of their business.

Of course, hey, why don't you have the Russians inspect? And why don't you have them inspect it from Inside the USA?

I think what goes on in georgia is at base about what happens in georgia, but I think I'd hear this argument if it were Peru or China or Catalan

"Russia was leaving Georgia.
America threw stuff at Georgia.
Russia stopped leaving Georgia.
2+2=Chair, you dig?"

Russia can't even get its lies clear at this point.  It's Colonel General said Russian was just taking up old buffer zones, but had to admit Poti was beyond them.

They were digging fortifications all this week in those spots and never meant to leave them.  The Lie as of today is that Russia is allowed to stay there according to the cease-fire deal which nobody else who read that deal agrees to.

I'm supposed to agree Russia has a veto over American aid missions? You expect me to agree to that? Or you just like arguing?

" The Russians should stick around at least until the Georgian government gets deposed but U.S backing may be enough to keep them in power for quite awhile"

A wonderful principle we should apply to the EU parliament if it gets out of line, I suppose?
