I try not to judge.
He refuses to address any of these obvious questions. If you repeat them, he might get upset and the forum will disappear again. ![]()
My throat is fine. I'm Batman!
Also, I'm Spartacus!
I'm simply stating the obvious. Free markets in America have nothing to do with Rwanda.
You've provided absolutely no argument otherwise.
Furthermore, you ignored my question begging you to provide an argument. I asked you how Henry Ford harmed any third world nation by getting rich producing automobiles in America. You never answered.
This is a really stupid exchange. If you're not going to provide an argument, there's no reason to troll.
If I fart it's not going to hurt a Rwandan either. Asking for sources of such an obvious logical fact is just stupid.
We don't have to acknowledge George Takei's marriage to respect Sulu.
Don't bother. He refuses to talk about the topic. The last time we tried, it took pages, he had a psychotic break, and he then vehemently denied having made the only claims he had clearly made on the topic (many times, no less).
It took 4 days and pages filled with spam to get that wall of text. He gave no response to the fact that he didn't even make an argument for days. He probably still hasn't. I don't care to read more to confirm this. 4 days and 3 pages is certainly enough good-will which was unjustified.
Honestly, what are we to make of silliness like this?
" I have already expressed this to you but you never seem to budge on your belief...."
For 4 days he didn't even make an argument, and now we have condescension. I don't even care to read all that garbage. Not making an argument for 4 days and then posting nonsense like that is just too childish to interest me.
"Oh, and regarding distances between stars: not that big an issue if ships travel close to light-speed. "
That's a pretty big if. Good job pretending it's nothing.
...What debate?
"This debate hinges on the issue as to whether or not the family in rural Rwanda has better opportunity to fulfill their basic needs due to the Wall street trader's purchase of a second new Ferarri for his third mistress."
No, it hinges on the _fact_ that a family in rural Rwanda does _not_ have less opportunity because someone else is successful. This is basic economics which you refuse to learn anything about. It's not opinion. One person being productive and reaping the rewards of this productivity does not hurt anyone else; to the contrary, it helps others by reducing prices via competition in the free market.
"Your reluctance to address this issue is clear enough by your having to resort to ridiculing my ideas and insulting me."
You're not even framing the issue in a logical way, let alone making a reasonable argument. The fact that a Ferarri purchase doesn't help a beggar in Singapore doesn't equate to that Ferarri purchase hurting that beggar. You're speaking as if it does. It's irrational and pointless.
"I just take your ridicule and insults as an indication of you admitting I am right...."
Except we address all of your ignorant ideas and correct you. You ignore all of these corrections, even when they're not opinion. You have no interest in debating or discussing anything, so we make jokes because there's literally nothing else to talk about. You don't even present arguments.
"Prove that everyone, including the rural family in Rwanda, is better off due to the excesses of Wall street. Prove that your 'free' market functions freely as Adam Smith might have envisioned it would."
As I said above, you're framing the argument irrationally. That free markets don't produce cheese on Mars doesn't change the fact that they benefit everyone in them. Does Rwanda have free markets? Hell if I care. Do they have any intrinsic connection with American markets? No. Does it mean anything if American markets do or do not directly effect Rwanda's standard of living? No. You're ranting about something with absolutely no bearing on the topic. Your Rwanda reference is a huge red herring.
Nobody has claimed that free markets in America benefit poor people in authoritarian/statist/communist/whatever foreign nations. Nobody here has said anything implying that free markets in one nation would directly benefit the poor of Rwanda. Free markets do help everyone on the globe insofar as they reduce prices, but if the people of Rwanda can't even afford transport costs, this doesn't help them. That's a problem with their governments, not the free market. Free markets still provide for the availability of better products at lower prices, but they don't magically increase the purchasing power of people outside of those free markets.
"I have provided evidence that supports the opposite...."
...No, you haven't.
"I'd be very happy if you could change my mind; very happy if you could prove me wrong."
This is a lie. You've made it very clear that you refuse to learn how free markets function to benefit members of societies with them.
"Evidence to the contrary, however, abounds..."
Maybe, one day, you'd be so kind as to share it with us. Fallacious references to Rwandan families, absent of any argument whatsoever, do not provide any such evidence.
Wow that's not ignorant, ridiculous, and offensive.
Hahahahhahahahhahahahahahhahahahahhaahahhahahahahaha
The problem is that some such similarly delusional women exist. And there's a chance, however small, that they'll pass on their DNA together.
The next generation, too, will demand that we build interstellar spaceships, despite the fact that no technology remotely capable of this feat exists or may even be possible.
I'm Spartacus.
Douchebaggery levels don't prove Americanness, East. Obama, too, has a high level of douchebaggery, and he's Kenyan.
It's rarely reported because it's at odds with what the majority of reporters and newscasters want to present.
When just the presence of a firearm is all that's required, it's often not reported to authorities at all, let alone news media.
But there's limited evidence of melting in the ice!
You know...
Cause it melted...
And flowed away. ![]()
Many can gain experience from unskilled labor and advance.
Many community colleges can be payed for entirely with grants and scholarships.
That's just propaganda that the governments of poorer people tell them to make them feel better.
"and they are complaining about the ONLY alternative they've left us with: taxing them so as to clean up the mess they've made."
Or we could scale back government from such corruption and behemoth, oppressive size.
The government's gone too far, gotten too big, and has become too corrupt. So it needs more tax revenue to waste? LULZ I hope you were being ironic.
LOL don't forget the DVD collection.
How embarrassing.
"It is the rich who benefit from and support the continuance of the corruption you and I abhor, Kemp."
Yeah, they're buying politicians. But they're not the only ones benefiting from and supporting corruption. The populace is voting in the trash. Enough of the populace is unwilling to work and happy to vote for corruption as long as they keep getting a free check.
This is democratic government when a large portion of the voter base is corrupt garbage who will vote anyone in for a bribe check, regardless that it'll collapse the government (and that government will, through printing money, collapse the economy on its way down).
My point being that, since democratic government has obvious advantages over autocracy, it's unproductive to blame the rich for the corruption and complacence of the poor (and everyone who supports the corrupt state). The rich have very few votes. We, the people, don't need to hang them: We just need to vote out their pawns and reinstate principled (limited) government.
"I don't distinguish from the working and the poor, Kemp. The poor are poor not because they don't work, but because the work they do does not afford them the fulfillment of their basic needs."
They don't do any work, so references to it are nonsensical. Furthermore, available work they decline does afford fulfillment of basic needs and more: That's why illegals perform the labor, fulfill their basic needs, and still have money to send home and buy Mister Spock tequila shots. They really do. I've seen them do it. My memory admittedly gets hazy after the last part though.
Many of the poor choose not to work because it offers them no significant standard of living over welfare and other government income. Rent, food, cell phones all covered separately, with money to spare for air conditioning, a car, cable TV, and drugs.
I'm not making any claims as to the numbers, but any claim that everyone wants to work is just laughably ignorant.
"Is it true that one's excess comes at the expense of another's shortage?"
Nope. I wouldn't be nearly so productive if I wasn't excessively rewarded for my hard work and ingenuity. Hundreds of millions of Americans share my sentiment. Our combined increases in productivity as a result of the excessive rewards this brings us results in massive increases in production and subsequently cheaper prices, elevating the standard of living for all. And on top of that, we improve these cheaper products and services, elevating the standard of living for all.
"Success would be redefined as stated above in the new paradigm; innovation would actually be transformational innovation rather than the false, or fools'innovation we currently experience."
Believe it or not, the earth is real. It's not a production of the Matrix. You're looking at a real innovation to read this message, one that most people on earth don't enjoy. There are thousands of such innovations.
This stuff isn't academic bullshit. It's real. Vague references to platitudes aren't.
"Productivity would be associated with maintaining self-perpetuating, self-regulating systems."
It already is. If you've developed self-perpetuating, self-regulating systems, myself and millions of others will give you a lot of money for them. You'll be a success. You'll make tons of money to redistribute as you see fit. You could use this money to give away such technology and reduce its price to increase availability.
Too bad it doesn't exist. You're talking about a fairy tale.
"In short, the terms you describe would be redefined in the new economic paradigm."
Another useless platitude representative of your whole idea. Platitudes don't change human psychology and motivation. And wishing cannot make it so.
twosidedeath,
"honestly what the hell is this. at this point i would like to start name calling because this is rediculous that you think you have any idea what i believe."
It's funny because you didn't correct me.
"an economic collapse would immediately result in a collapse of a government. but would we all die or revert to a stone age? no the EU didnt result in this, it was simply a shift of power and laws. life went on."
I'm sorry, I must have missed the "economic collapse" that has gone on since the formation of the EU. And I'm the one being ridiculous, making you want to name-call?
"but what YOU need to do is learn to stay on a topic and actually debate something instead of creating a simpler topic that you can handle."
You seem upset. I was making the point that there is much more "need" than you admit if one actually takes defense of one-self and one's family/loved ones. Your previous arguments were predicated upon the notion that I will positively never need a semi-automatic rifle to defend myself or others, ever. You repeated:
"there is NO need for any kind of automatic guns, a pistol WILL kill someone and keep you safe. try to come back to reality sometime soon"
My statements were in direct response to this thinking. Okay, so you don't agree that my arguments are strong enough to share my conclusion. But that's no reason to cry like a baby. I was responding to exactly this sentiment which you said before and ironically repeated just after accusing me of being off-topic.
You know absolutely nothing about firearms or self-defense. A pistol WILL NOT protect individuals and others ideally in many conceivable situations. You're making things up.
TCO,
"i tried having a debate, but ran into a wall of staunchly defended slogans and oversimplifications. I even got reproached for a) using actual statistics"
The statistics you cited did not provide any evidence for what you claimed they showed. It was dishonest of you. It was insulting to everyone that you'd waste our time with such pointless garbage.
If this is lost on you, that's not anyone else's fault.
"and b) valuing anothers life more than my right to carry a lethal weapon."
Unless a weapon is required to protect yourself or others. Then your lack of a right to carry a lethal weapon is more important than others' lives.
Schniepel,
Didn't you see star-wars?
You need to know this about us evil, imperial, hateful Americans: Your jealousy only makes us stronger.
It was either mention the difficulties the locals had told him about, or risk looking like an naive boob without knowledge of security concerns.
I'm NOT disagreeing that he's a [giant] douche. I'm just saying his mistake was more being honest, rather than being wrong.
"there would be shame and negative stigma attached to acquiring excess"
ie success. You would shame success, innovation, and productivity.
Good plan. Well thought out. I'll bet it'd lead to great standards of living for all!
With cool gadgets! And recently upgraded to a low, growly voice!
It would be different than asking me for his viewpoint. He can't tell you what Libertarians (I really couldn't tell you either, I just give you my libertarian thoughts above, not Libertarian) support in regard to the possibility of man-caused climate change. I can, however, tell you all about his viewpoints.
I'm offended by your inaccuracy! You sell me short! I'm insulted! I'm offended! By a moderator, no less!
*cries*
