It's impossible to argue against the efficiency of free-markets

But just to annoy you, I love Planned Parenthood. There is government involvement and subsidies, but I can efficiently get STD tests for free. I have to wait a week for an appointment, and I wait 15 minutes at the latest to see the doctor (all are women).

Xeno,

No, I am saying Descartes was scholar with limited brains.

Descartes was more intellectually challenged than Xeno, but I agree the others were brilliant.

Rawrr,

We aren't "evolving in to" anything. Evolution isn't like a linear line of grades. A species with superior intellect and strength could get pwned, or prove to be unfit, in a particular environment. For the sake of argument, lets assume the earth suddenly became a huge ocean with -200 degree F weather. Our "superior" species would be unable to adapt and would become extinct, but some ocean species would continue, and perhaps benefit, under this new environment - their genes would be passed on because natural selection favored them.

^ Logically invalid counter argument.

That said, DPS makes a fine counter point. Abiogenesis is irrelevant to evolution. The only thing Abiogenesis is relevant for is settling the question of whether life first emerged from divine planning or natural processes. Right now we haven't been able to create life without reproduction or engineering, but I will put my gamble in with naturalism because the defenses of religion have been growing narrower and narrower and gradually replaced by natural explanations.

I think we should escalate the war and show them that the empirical method is superior to their ancient religion. Destroy Mecca and attribute the victory to the power of science and the powerlessness of Allah. Ruin their culture and institutions, as Machiavelli suggests.

Is there such a thing as too much Globalization of industry, that we can state there has been a transfer of wealth? For example, suppose the US closed down 90% of its factories and moved them overseas. Prices are cheaper in the short-run, but can we call this transfer a transfer of wealth and bad for the US in the long-run?

Personally, I have little motivation for altruistic behavior. What altruism I do engage in seems to revolve under the expectation that my favors will be reciprocated.

Using "reward" or "return" is redundant. Including "mutually satisfying relationship" and "mutual reward or return" is not. The reason is that a mutually satisfying relationship could conceivably be costly for one party or both. The two fragments are together because my hypothesis implies that that possibility is rare.

Very good replies. After further thought, I think convenience may actually be a poor word choice. Perhaps it would be better to say that at least 90% of mutually satisfying relationships are based on some kind of mutual reward or return. This implies the larger question on what those rewards on based on, and I think a lot of them probably have to do with drives inherent in our biology.

Blonde,

Like I said, my motivation was to get away from my family, and rooming with her and her friends presented the most convenient opportunity to get far away from them. And I did not tell you everything because I wanted to entertain you lol. I haven't made a move on her because she has a boyfriend, and while she thinks I am physically attractive we do not have many shared interests.

You can try and act to be like the higher educated middle class, but your ideas don't show it. All it shows it Palinesque uninformedness and naivity. Things like this and your "revelations" about social relations makes me assume you have the Asperger syndrome, am I right?

I don't like the current gangsta rap culture, but denouncing Hip Hop in general is just plain ignorance. People like Grandmaster Flash or the French rapper Fabe can't be reduced to terms like "uncivilized".>

If you say so, but 2/3 of my ideas I don't believe or I partly believe. I argue or entertain ideas I don't actually believe because it's very educational for me. My "revelation" about social relations was one of those ideas. I think there is something to it, but I'm not committed to the extreme version I presented.

I actually am committed to the position that Hip Hop is uncivilized, though. But you can't call it ignorance, since it's a value statement and a matter of my personal taste.

I was never tested for Asperger's syndrome, but I don't think I have it after reviewing its features on Wikipedia.

This isn't a question I can answer empirically. It is a social and cultural question, and it offends my upper middle class values.

Not just a few examples, but every relationship I have witnessed. To convince me that I'm wrong, you would need to find that at least 10% of successful and happy relationships are grossly imbalanced or mutually costly. I have observed that successful relationships involve interests being balanced, and ones that are coming to ruin have imbalanced interests. That proves convenience to me.
