>>1: What's the difference between federal and local government?  Why is one level acceptable, while the other isn't?<<

More control over local government. It's possible to get a clean sweep in local politics in one election; that's almost impossible in the federal government even over 12 years.

>>2: But you do agree that public education is overall probably a beneficial system under a conservative framework, correct?<<

I avoided it as a kid.  My experience has been that people may be better than I am because of what they achieved after a public school education but i never felt left behind because of a catholic school education.  That's just from California, though.  the reaction to standardized testing by both kids and teachers in public school makes me think attitude, more than organization, is our real problem.

"Just answer the question.  What is the conservative view of education policy?"

Keep it locally managed.  We tolerate federal funds but we support No Child Left Behind which said ~IF~ you're gonna take federal money and then run it locally, the kids better test well; if not, no $$$

probably the best answer for those who can manage it, is private education

Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi is set to ask the United Nations to 'abolish' Switzerland and share the land among its neighbouring countries.

The eccentric dictator has filed a motion with the U.N. saying the Alpine state should be wiped off the map and split among France, Italy and Germany.

Gaddafi is set to present his bizarre plan when Libya takes over the year-long presidency of the U.N. general Assembly on September 15.

He first mentioned his idea at the G8 summit in Italy in July. 'Switzerland is a world mafia and not a state,' he said.

'It is formed of an Italian community that should return to Italy, another German community that should return to Germany, and a third French community that should return to France.'

The Swiss Foreign Ministry described it as a single-minded campaign against Swiss interests.

Swiss MP Christa Markwalder, told the Swiss TV news programme 10 vor 10 this week: 'We are concerned that Libya will attempt to use its year-long presidency of the U.N. General Assembly to damage Switzerland's reputation.'

Relations between Switzerland and Libya crumbled after Gaddafi's son Hannibal, 33, and his pregnant wife were arrested in Geneva a year ago accused of assaulting a hotel chamber maid.

so I guess that's why

and he's a "good guy" since apparently he renounced terrorism, he just likes terrorists and hates the Swiss. Hooray. Oh and he pays the UK beaucoup pounds in oil deals.

No, the needs of the party are separate of a particular viewpoint...while the Republican Party was once THE VOICE of conservatism in the United States it is no longer assuredly the vehicle of the movement.

What might aid the Republican Party in winning elections may compromise the ideological agenda of policy and therefore be undesirable for conservatives.

I think they are subject to those laws. But acturial tables are like engineering tables, anybody can use them and everybody can use them.

The Dems want them organized into a govt cartel called an exchange, so good luck finding a champion. They like the insurance model, because it gets everybody to pay monthly whether they use the system or not

No, an excuse is a explanation of a failure to do something yuo ought to have done but failed to do. I'm just stating the facts about why we shouldn't bother.
