@genesis
pakistan is quit distant to lybia, isn't it? ![]()
"Cause and because are not the same word."
I thought Cause has different meanings and one is slang for because. Correct me if I'm wrong, my English is bad. In any case the meaning of the sentence is that despite the problems, I hope they will succeed in forming a stable democratic regime.
"And for which countries' future do you have hope?"
Libya
"Plus in any case I think you misunderstand the protests."
I'm open to other opinions ![]()
"In the first instance the attack on the Benghazi consulate was not about the film, that was purely a trigger."
Altough not black and white, in general I agree.
"In the same way, the anti-violence protests are just that; Libyans do not wish to live in a land of warlords - the attack on the Consulate has merely acted as a trigger."
The attack might not be the main reason, but the people disagree with it still. And its that signal, weak as it might be, together with the election results that gives me hope for the future of that country.
over 30k people protested against the violent protest about the movie. They attacked a HQ of Muslim extremists and it came to heavy fighting. It gives me some hope for the countries future. I just hope the gov will manage to establish a peaceful democratic regime cause it won't be easy.
"I HATE PIRATE DAY! or whatever it is"
True, its offtopic.
Parties try harder because of the tough competition.
Often extremes get a chance to lead before they grow too large (and voters get dissapointed in them)
the presumed stabillity often means more chances to be corrupt and instabillity behind doors.
So yes i.m.o.
agreed with flint
Let me be clear here, I'm not against recycling oil, biomass or stuf like that as long as the ROEI is ok and its economically viable. But when you go large scale, it often isn't.
biofuel costs more oil then it saves and lowers the amount of food production. So it creates the crisis it needs to prevent.
To make it a real alternative you need to find a way to produce it cheap first.
If you would only invest 0.01% of the cost of this madness in science you would go forward a lot. So einstein +1
The European commission lowers the target from 10 to 5 % of total amount of bio-fuel to be used against 2020.
I think that's a good step, better would be 0% but ok. It show people start to realize the madness of this.
"Its just a common theory that the fragmentation of parties made it difficult to form a stable coalition"
Its one of those theories I disagree with. A stable coalition proly would have been undemocratic much faster. In a strange way, extreme left and right kept each other in check. Even if the social democrats had that power, I don't think they would have been all that democratic. A significant portion of them believed in a temporarily dictatorship to "counter" the right. The center-right and right at the time was against democracy almost completely (for the same reasons).
The factors that made it difficult i.m.o. where:
-no long democratic tradition (esp Prussia)
-no trust or understanding in democracy
-econ difficulties
-national humiliation
-lack of education on the voters side
-the pressure of the soviets
-disappointed vets
-distrust between the large political factions
-...could go on
@Schniepel:
if the voters in the Weimar rep had less choice, the largest part of them would have voted what? I fail to see how that would have given less chances to the nazis. The nazis captured a state that already was made authoritarian by somebody else.
Rather I think the system slowed the process down.
I'm with kemp and zarf on this one. This kind of info costs almost nothing. Let free people decide for themselves.
Justinian,
there are many different idees amongst the population and the political parties should somehow reflect that. I can't understand why it is a bad thing. You can always vote the next bad thing if you are disappointed. It makes for tough competition over the voters and that is what you need or the system doesn't work.
Roflmao @bief
The only reason he won't make more debt compared to Obama is because they won't allow him...I hope.
Romney is left. Ofc he wants him to win! ![]()
agreed here. Its just plain arrogance. You could as well call your movement "divine". Reminds me of the propaganda of Mao's days with his "great leap forward".
Its a nice example idd. The word has been twisted so often nobody knows its original meaning, and its confusing. Often people label themselves something that is imaginary at best. The creepy thing is those people are allowed to vote as well.
sidenote
...Now if you would lable yourself fartist (a underground movement on this forum that consisted of a few members like me and yell) THAT would have a meaning.

This adoration for physical sports makes the world less intelligent as women will choose athletes over brainiacs.
lol
These terms are used by people to simplify things and group people. Inevitably this type of generalization provides many mistakes.
These groups -if not imaginary- consists of many different individuals with possibly as many ideas.
You could ofc narrow it down and be more specific in a 3 dimensional graph to lower the distance to reality yet still have an easy to understand tool. We have seen many of these going around here often accompanied by a test. But even those are questionable and very inaccurate.
So mostly if people here say rightwing neocon, hardcore communist, religious, conservative etc its mainly used as a personal insult caused by a lack of argument.
lol
frankly I don't give a ... what he does in his free time.
