"why not? because while google's translator software is surprisingly good for a computer program, it's still very bad compared to first hand knowledge of a language"

new jack, please! I'm american

"also I'm fairly certain star trek came up with your idea first"

Lieses!! Their translators were linked to a ship not the internet, a revolutionary design improvement that means I owe them $0

"You'll quickly realize why this idea isn't quite worth a billion dollars yet."

So, I understand there's a program, that will let a guy talk into a microphone, and his speech is transcribed into txt in a word file

and there's another program that will read text loud into speakers or headphones, so the deaf can read books,

and there's Google Translate, where I take a block of text, tell google what language it is, and what language I want it to be, and it generates another block of text in my language

so

why don't they put them together?  I wear a computer on my belt, and a mike, and a guy or a TV or a radio talking at me in Arabic or Russian is recorded as undisplayed text, and then every five seconds a chunk is translated into English in another undisplayed file, and the computer reads that second english text into my headphones

um yeah why not?

"
1. Yell - One of the best debaters the forum ever had. But he has, for whatever reason, discontinued typing posts of ideal content in favor of one liner analogies that make little sense."

Yeah I usually post from work..  Part of it is, too, that I started here back in 2003-2004, when US policy was more in line with my reasoning, and so I could spend time defending my government and explaining our goals.   Starting in 2005, the US government and teh Republican party started to skew left.  We're short on energy cause we won't produce it, our border is a joke, we're begging the Taliban to give us nice terms, and kissing Russian and Chinese ass, and that's the Republican position really, the Democrats are worse.  I see the Republican pundits are arguing from fear of Obama and despair of doing anything better than Romney, and looking for excuses for their failure to solve problems by quoting polls.   There's not much drive to restore the US to a place where we produce more and grow more and earn more and keep more.  So spending 20 mins on a soapbox isn't that much fun, because, what's the point? Most of America won't recognize that "progress" is holding us back, so how can I tell you folks why the US does anythign?

i dont mean some guy with a crown pushed a gold ring into a wax ball, and a law was passed, and those who spoke it got a bad credit rating

I mean the Pope adn the King of France said the Albigensians were heretics, and all their good swere forfeit, adn you could go plunder that region of France, and kill all heretics you found, and speaking langue d'oc and having property was like wearing a bullseye, adn so was speaking langue d'oc and being a vagrant withotu property

and having it "fuse" into other languages = dying out

If you're going to legitimate an invented 19th century national identity because it's cool, then you're giving legitimacy to the Confederate States of America.  And mister, if you're gonna start that South Will Rise Again shit, we're gonna hafta mark you down for some elimination mad
