this is already the case, if he can find a buyer/seller to go along with it you can barter with anything you want. There are companies out there that offer barter units and such too

Intel, hands down. Best performance woot woot. A couple dozen/100 $ in price difference isn't that bad compared to better performance.

Of course that doesn't apply to the absurd prices Intel charges for its high end business processors, for which an ordinary consumer is much better off buying the second best Intel processor of the day and just upgrade faster.
