This thread isn't dead yet?
@Chris
What does the embargo actually do for us? Now, don't say "he's a communist, and thus it's bad to trade with him." What do we gain to benefit?
Are you claiming a real-world benefit to not trading with Castro, or are you just claiming it's morally unjust?
I'm Batman
Um... the military doesn't protect you? Is that actually what you're arguing?
Wow, Cloud. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.
Um... they still fall under the additional umbrella criterion that they have to first fit under "terrorist group" or a group that's carrying out violent acts.
Rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority? Yeah, there's some militant groups, especially in rural communities, that advocate that.
Anarchist groups? Um... okay!
And the single issue ones? Go specifically to abortion. Does the average Republican advocate bombing abortion clinics?
As for the firearm thing, think about it: You're a dedicated Republican who believes that our right to bear arms is a check created by the Founding Fathers to prevent tyranny. New gun restrictions are placed. Some extremist group responds to this and says "look, remember what we said? The NEW WORLD ORDER is coming!" Yeah, I agree with it. New gun restrictions are a formula for people who value their guns to step outside the law and embrace extreme right wing terrorism for fear of the government confirming their worst fears.
If Texas left, would we have to redesign the flag for 49 stars, or would there just be a cover-up patch over one star that we should put on our old flags?
Skoe, sorry... this is a direct answer to Flint's "Challenges" that he had. A third party interfering would mess with the challenge.
And yes, we needed the full thread. ![]()
You can always make another thread if you like, or wait until one of us leaves crying... ![]()
Care to find the quote? I read it through.
Now, I did find that it said, "people with these views may join these groups," but... duh! Do you think Nolio is going to join the KKK? Let's face it: Certain groups manipulate conservative ideals to achieve ends that are undesirable.
It's like writing an article that says, "Muslims may increasingly join groups like Al Qaeda." Is it saying all Muslims are terrorists? No. It's saying that Muslims are the group most likely to join a group like Al Qaeda since Al Qaeda shares their views.
I don't get it. It doesn't seem that extreme.
Look, neo-Nazis and the KKK are generally referred to as "extreme right-wing" groups. In just the same way, a communist terrorist group or ELF are considered "left-wing extremist" groups. It doesn't mean conservatives need to put these guys under their banner and say "Hey, they may be racists, but they're OUR racists!" They can be rejected, even though there's a label on them that may associate them with conservatism.
The issue isn't that people hold beliefs such as an opposition to NAFTA. The issue is that groups like these are willing to take up arms and literally fight the government on the issue, rather than working within the system.
That article isn't even talking about conservatives! It's talking about groups like neo-Nazis, the KKK, and other militant groups in the US. Unless you're arguing that the KKK is mainstream conservatism (not one word, Deci), you're safe. ![]()
Last bump and then I give up, since you're online right now. ![]()
Were they actually serving tea? Or is it like one of those "tupperware parties" where you think it's a party, but they're actually just trying to sell you stuff?
This thread is possibly the least intelligent thread ever written in politics.
The Ogalala Aquifer? That what you're talking about?
Makes one-word posts!
According to the Central Limit Theorum, statistics for a population sample taken from a population unit with a normal distribution will resemble a normal distribution as the sample population increases.
1: Wikipedia vs... the US Treasury Department. Hmm... who would be better advised about whether the currency is backed up by gold? Hmm...
2: Key word: Some. That doesn't account for the entire currency system.
3: How old are those notes? Just curious.
4: So indirectly, it's backed up by gold. However, the currency to assets ratio must be accounted for. If there isn't enough assets to back up the currency, then redeeming the cash for gold is essentially a good will gesture at best. China and India hold reserves because they have HUGE reserves of currency, so it's an insurance policy. But individuals are less able to do it with normal currency due to the simple lack of gold in the reserve.
5: The faith of the US government to pay off debts isn't the same as being backed up by gold. Here's the issue:
Backing: The government has X billion dollars in gold. Therefore, it will produce no more than X billion dollars in currency.
Faith of the US government: The government has X billiion dollars in gold. Therefore, if needed, it can compensate the redemption of X billion dollars in currency. However, it is not restricted to producing only X billion dollars in currency.
There's one good option. Putting anti-ballistic missile systems in Japan and Korea and placing stealth bombers in the region so that if we decide to attack, or if they decide to launch, we can intercept their missiles, then take down their missile silos to prevent second launches.
Oh wait, we've done both of these. No biggie, then! Lock and load!

Federal Reserve notes are not redeemable in gold, silver or any other commodity, and receive no backing by anything This has been the case since 1933. The notes have no value for themselves, but for what they will buy. In another sense, because they are legal tender, Federal Reserve notes are "backed" by all the goods and services in the economy.
The dollar isn't backed by gold anymore, though. It died in the '70s (I blame disco).

Is this some sort of game?
No, I mean I didn't know that the US didn't use all its land to produce grain. Interesting...
