Can we not just decrease the number of available planets?  We've been doing so, last few galaxy resets.  if it needs to be done further, we can!

Another possibility is to reduce the number of planets per system.  It has already been moved (6 mnths? or so ago) from 20-25 to 15-20 planets per system.

Yep, it's in a sorry state atm sad

The same reason you are not playing, is the same reason why a lot of others aren't.  Which has left IC in this situation.

A real pity!  The few of us still hanging around, are making it possible for older people to come in and say "hi", at least!

Right, this really belongs in Ideas, but I wanted to get it into Uni News first for the exposure, and since it's about a specific family.  I'll likely move it to Ideas soonishly.

Sorry 9897, to use you guys as an example - but it highlights what I want to talk about.  Not saying you guys are down and out, but you're definitely disadvantaged.

The Family:

Members in family #9897, Umbrella Corporation(51,51)

Empire    Race    Networth    Planets
Rhoxx     Quantam     4994    4    Online!
Fleet Admiral     Minion     Minor Minions     2399    1
Aries     Partaxs     2178    1

Inactive     Anibus     BankersBreed     1250    1
Inactive     Droogi     Eurotrash     1250    1
Inactive     Meth     trolololol     1250    1
Inactive     Moderate Impact     Moderate Impact     1250    1

The Problem

Let's assume none are multi's (cos we're good humans and think better of people first, before doing checks!).  Instead, they're people, that I assume are people who don't want to play in this fam, and will try to random into a Fam with:
A) Someone they know
B) A fam that looks organised and has a leader doing stuff

Now, this fam is effectively operating an 8 man fam, with only 3 players.  That's a big disadvantage.  Unfortunately, none of the 3, made an effort (it seems) to bring in some friends to draft (or the fam was full by then, or noone wanted to join).  That at least would have made it a 5 man family.

What we can't do, is easily remove the 48hr wait rule.  Because this gives the guys doing this, another chance to just random into a place they want to play in (why make it easier for them?).  But at the same time, we need to support the guys who "are" sticking around and trying to play.

Perhaps a solution, is to somehow distribute their starting res to the active players of the fam (but I don't know, maybe this will be abuseable?) and can even add somehow the explo ship limits somehow?

Point is, it seriously hurts.  I've been in fams like this before, multiple times, and if you don't have an active few who know what they're doing and how to play well, the whole round is a struggle from the backfoot.  Tbh, I've actually had the most fun in a round like this, working hard to work up the ranks - but it still means you're disadvantaged from the outset.

The Question

How do we fix this?  This kind of stuff seriously disadvantages a fam.  What needs to be done?

You guys always complain that Mods don't know the game, or are making the wrong decisions.  But as of late, all I see are feedback threads and ideas that we implement from you guys.  Yes, we don't do everything, because simply we can't for some reason or the other.  But we do actively listen and try to get you what you think is best.  We're not experts in anything as such.  We all started off as players.

So with that in mind, please try to be constructive, and lets work out a plan to solve issues like these.

Out of your entire post, you did make 'one' good point though:

How do we fix this?  That's my question.

We want this game to require less time, less energy, yet still be rewarding for people to be wanting to do it (whether that be just the satisfaction of getting people to work together and do stuff - like Orbit said).

That, is the real issue, imo.

A.E. I joined startbust and leading a family and I rezeived a nap offer even bfore the round starts, and that leader wants me to respekt a kore of 75+ systems ???  Wahts this? why are new leaders allowed to think they kan have a kore of 75 systems without a fight??  Bekause mods are allowing it, by setting this BIG map with a lot of spaze between families.

Wrong.  That has nothing to do with the mods.  The reason why they think it's acceptable, is because a lot of the fams just give up and don't know how to fight.  They don't know how to take charge, lead a family and fight a war.  They want the easy way out and so accept the NAPs, even if it's not in favour for them.

This is happening time and again, which is why people come in and ask these kinda things.

Yes, map is an issue - but that's got nothing to do with this.  The Map, comes from feedback from the players too - least they have been for the last 3-4 rounds (and earlier too, but less noticed).  Eg this map in Starburst this round, is based purely off what players want.  No mod really had an influence at all.  So yea, you're wrong about this being about the mods.  Have you even seen the Feedback threads about it?  No, I guess not.

So yea, getting back on topic, what this "is" to do with, is the leaders of the fams.  If that kind of NAP is acceptable, then it's up to the leader of the fam.  Which goes back to the topic of this thread.  Where are the good leaders gone, and how can we either get them back, or help create new ones.

Varlokas!! One of my the best IC players of all time, in my opinion smile

True part. Leadership requires too much activity. Actually, this game requires a lot of activity in general to succeed. So young active blood is needed. But young blood is joining fams, where old vets are "leading their way". And fam bank strat does no good for it too, because they jumps old known bankers and attackers first, leaving new people to last.

100% agree with you!!

So, how do we fix this problem??

Heya!

Okay so Starburst is full at the moment, due to Ghost Spots.  However, the 48hr mark is up in about half a day.  When that happens, a lot of inactives will be removed from peoples' fams.  I suggest you wait til then!

Also, we have free drafting this round (assuming a Fam has a draft spot still available), so good chance to think about that!

And if you 'really' want to, we have an SS Normal Gal, Supernova for you to try your hand at (although that gal is ending soon).

+ he is investing too much time into tryng to kill you, while others are starting to get at him.  Or he's losing ground.

Good stuff, consider it a victory! \o/

Interesting to see that the first action of Starburst......is..

...wait for it..

a NAP!

That's my point though.  There "are" people who know how to do this.  They're just not here anymore (e.g. some of the names in this thread), or can't be bothered (e.g. you - potentially!).

So the question is, how do we bring them back.  Or, how do we ensure there's a good reason to be leading a fam and rewarding wins.

Maybe, address something like this:

Orbit wrote:

Everyone is too scared to lose everything.

Personally, I'm thinking PMode needs to be fixed as a priority.

Also, what do you mean by this:

Orbit wrote:

How do we fix this requires a long conversation between people who can fix this game, which I don't see happening.

Those that 'can' (potentially) fix the game, don't necessarily know how - me included.  We're always open to ideas though.  Some aren't as practical as others though.

So what's the problem then.

Is it not rewarding enough to be a good leader?  How can we drive the good leaders out of the woodwork and come forward to take charge of fams and lead them?

That you would like to see?

Not saying that it will necessarily get implemented, but I am curious to see what you guys think!

What would be the one single biggest thing you would change about IC, if you could?

Try to limit it to one thing - the thing you would most like to see or happen.  Ofcourse, keep it to programming/gameplay type things.  Eg. a change is not "get more players playing".  That doesn't really help.

But yea, you get the idea!

gl!
