Re: Watchmen!

I think that is one of the points of the comic; it didn't matter whether he got active or not. What resolves the action is not a genius' scheme but the fanaticism of a maniac and the initiative of a moron. That was more clear in the comic, where Seymour's shirt with the stain on it is the last thing you see as he reaches into the mailtray. That happy face shows up too frequently and for no reason to be pointless.

"It's all a joke"

Dr manhattans regression from suit in the 1960s to speedo in Nam to present day full monty was a sign of his growing inhumanity.

Re: Watchmen!

in the movie he wore a suit during the press conference that was present day....  right before he went to Mars.

Re: Watchmen!

Yeah when the govt asked him to. He had no inhibition against surfacing his submarine.

Re: Watchmen!

in the movie, i think you only saw him in a suit during press conferences, you only saw him in a thong in Vietnam, and you only saw his "submarine" when he was in a fairly private place, so you couldnt really tell, if you didnt read the comics.

Re: Watchmen!

Hrm.

Yeah dr manhattan was often alone. Or with laurie.

His unit wasn't that pronounced in the comic as the film btw

He was stark nude when he got back from mars in NYC before he went to the south pole, but I guess the were alone there too

Btw in the comic people didn't get vaporized by the doomsday device, their brains melted out their nose.at least that's what the heaped corpses looked like.  One of the few ways the movie skimped on carnage

was he? i dont think they showed him from the waist down, in that situation, so you couldnt tell if he had a thong on.

Re: Watchmen!

There was one scene I wish they'd kept. When Rohrshach is caught the media interview his landlady who says he was a smelly creep who tried to proposition her. When he gets out he goes back to his apt for his mask and hat and she catches him. He starts telling her she lied and he can't permit that while Nite Owl begs him to spare her. He asks her "how much did they pay you to lie about me, whore?". and she begs him not to call her that in front of her kids because "they don't know". As he stares at her five totally disimilar kids, whoresons like himself, he just walks away.

Re: Watchmen!

it was not superbad, but not good either and definatly too long winded... people in the theatre started checking their cell phones for messages and stuff halfway through the movie... and some people just started leaving

something I was not impressed with is how they skimmed over the origin and nature of the superheroes, one the one hand they were ordinary people donning deciding to don masks yet at the same time they had incredible superpowers; this could have been deliberate but it was annoying

Re: Watchmen!

who had incredible superpowers other then Dr Manhattan?

Re: Watchmen!

The only one with superpowers was Doc Manhatten. The others just lifted weights and had lots of training for fighting. You have to think Batman when you think minutemen and watchmen (other then the doc)

The way they did that was considerably different also. Instead of introducing a new "threat to the world" they chose to use an already established character. I thought it was alright. I would have preferred the original view of it since it was designed to unite humanity against an alien threat.

the songs were good smile There were two times near the end i wasn't so sure the songs fit really but for 90% of the film they were great. I started thinking about it and they needed all the music so they could transition between the multiple scenes without rushing them or filling in with crappy banter

Usually, that says more about the crowd than the movie, especially when it has some action into it. Try watching Il Postino! tongue

I didn't catch on until "All Along The Watchtower" but they were playing songs quoted in the comic at the end of each chapter/issue.

Once he's in his suit he's authoritative, commanding and confident."

yeah, but the fact that Dan was more confident in his uniform or that he was pretty timid when he wasnt, didnt really make a difference in the movie. instead of doing something like batman, it was more something like Hellboy; where they're trying to make a great comic into a movie, instead of making a great movie out of a great comic.

did they give him a speedo anytime other then when he was huge?

I think there was the time they were taking that picture with the whole group before they went crazy.

And I personal loved Rorshack though I believe that the movie struck me as a cliche superhero movie. Well, as cliche as today will get. The only real thing I enjoyed about the movie was Rorschack and I was very upset when they killed him. sad

world peace!

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

okay, well on the one hand that makes sense, but on the other hand that's just ridiculous if you see how many people they can take on...

Re: Watchmen!

to be honest, i didn't like the movie. i saw a lot of hype about it & it wasn't what i was expecting. effects were cool as hell, like, at the end when (cough cough). i've never read the comics, but i heard that they are supposed to be the best superhero comics around. dont know what happened between that and the film. still, its not the worse film i seen.

6.5 / 10

My name is Sam Fisher

I used to hunt terrorists - now I am one.
I used to take orders - now I execute them.
I've become, a Double Agent!

Re: Watchmen!

I went out and bought the comic/novel/whatevar thing today and will prolly read some of it before I see the movie.

Re: Watchmen!

reading it before the movie helps alot. I spoke to a couple of my coworkers and they had some trouble getting into the beginning of the movie with no info about it beforehand.

And im pretty sure it's supposed to be the best anti-super hero novel ever tongue Special effects were awesome throughout the movie tongue Movie would have been too long if htey had fleshed out all the characters as much as the novel. Was already almost 3 hours long. They would have had to do a "kill bill" to add anymore tongue
