Re: Black History Month

@Gondor
We dont speak like a "white person." We speak english when needed. Who goes up to the head of they company or boss saying, "Yo boss i got to leave early to pick up my babymama." It would be proper to say, "Excuse me, I have to pick my significant other early today. So may I leave early."

White people does the samething. They not going to say, "Dude i got to leave work early to get my girl friend mann.."

There isnt enough time to celebrate all the black people. A month isnt long enough to celebrate every African American. I made this forum to notice all the successful african americans.

I'm pretty sure there are quite a few people who do just what you said they don't tongue More times then i can count i heard an african american in class say something to a professor that was less english and more gibberish tongue

Anyway, I have respect for those of you have made something of your life (Hopefully through legal ways...) but you should lay off the "Superior race" talk. I'm part German and we all know what happened when Germans decided they were the "Superior race." tongue

Re: Black History Month

"I guess now since we have a half white n black president now white want to agrue that he not fully black. So they could say their race is better funny rednecks."

I don't think this is true because most attention has been paid to his black heritage rather than his white family. However, the point that such a big deal is made of Obama's race (and that in most reports he is referred to as black without mention of his white heritage) is just an indicator that race is still the issue that it shouldn't be. Obama shouldn't be regarded as the first black president, he should just be the 44th (or whatever number he is) president. If race were considered to be as irrelevant as it really should be then it wouldn't matter what shade his skin was. It should really be no more thought of which president had the darkest skin than which president had the biggest nose or the least hair.

Just as Obama's race being apparently relevant to some people is an indicator that things aren't as they should be, the existence of black history month is too. While people still define themselves as "white" or "black" and do things such as define their history seperately it makes it all the more unlikely that people will define themselves as "human" and undifferentiable from any other human.

An interesting question however, is whether race being an issue in society is down to society as a whole still bearing discriminative attitudes or whether certain groups - including many of those defining themselves as black - have a chip on their shoulder causing them to bring up race as an issue more often than is necessary and in doing so carrying on the cycle of self definition along race lines which led to discrimination in the first place.

Oh, hang on, this is general, not politics...

Re: Black History Month

I agree with that. More people do recognize race before they just simply say he a human beings we all humans dont matter race or color. They should just abolish race and just simply see people as being human.

oOOps my bad! It's a Finn in his natural element!!!

"Carver had an interest in helping poor Southern farmers who were working low-quality soils that had been depleted of nutrients by repeated plantings of cotton crops. He and other agricultural cognoscenti urged farmers to restore nitrogen to their soils by practicing systematic crop rotation, alternating cotton crops with plantings of sweet potatoes or legumes (such as peanuts, soybeans and cowpeas) that were also sources of protein. Following the crop rotation practice resulted in improved cotton yields and gave farmers new foods and alternative cash crops. In order to train farmers to successfully rotate crops and cultivate the new foods, Carver developed an agricultural extension program for Alabama that was similar to the one at Iowa State. In addition, he founded an industrial research laboratory where he and assistants worked to popularize use of the new plants by developing hundreds of applications for them through original research and also by promoting recipes and applications that they collected from others. Carver distributed his information as agricultural bulletins. (See Carver bulletins below.)

Peanut specimen collected by CarverMuch of Carver's fame is related to the hundreds of plant products he popularized. After Carver's death, lists were created of the plant products Carver compiled or originated. Such lists enumerate about 300 applications for peanuts and 118 for sweet potatoes, although 73 of the 118 were dyes. He made similar investigations into uses for cowpeas, soybeans, and pecans. Carver did not write down formulas for most of his novel plant products so they could not be made by others. Carver is also credited with the invention of peanut butter.[24]

Until 1921, Carver was not widely known for his agricultural research. However, he was known in Washington, D.C. President Theodore Roosevelt publicly admired his work. James Wilson, a former Iowa state dean and teacher of Carver's, was U.S. secretary of agriculture from 1897 to 1913. Henry Cantwell Wallace, U.S. secretary of agriculture from 1921 to 1924, was one of Carver's teachers at Iowa State. Carver was a friend of Wallace's son, Henry A. Wallace, also an Iowa State graduate.[25] The younger Wallace served as U.S. secretary of agriculture from 1933 to 1940 and as Franklin Delano Roosevelt's vice president from 1941 to 1945.

In 1916 Carver was made a member of the Royal Society of Arts in England, one of only a handful of Americans at that time to receive this honor. However, Carver's promotion of peanuts gained him the most fame.

In 1919, Carver wrote to a peanut company about the great potential he saw for his new peanut milk. Both he and the peanut industry seemed unaware that in 1917 William Melhuish had secured patent #1,243,855 for a milk substitute made from peanuts and soybeans. Despite reservations about his race, the peanut industry invited him as a speaker to their 1920 convention. He discussed "The Possibilities of the Peanut" and exhibited 145 peanut products.

By 1920, U.S. peanut farmers were being undercut with imported peanuts from the Republic of China. White peanut farmers and processors came together in 1921 to plead their cause before a Congressional committee hearings on a tariff. Having already spoken on the subject at the convention of the United Peanut Associations of America, Carver was elected to speak in favor of a peanut tariff before the Ways and Means Committee of the United States House of Representatives. Carver was a novel choice because of U.S. racial segregation. On arrival, Carver was mocked by surprised Southern congressmen, but he was not deterred and began to explain some of the many uses for the peanut. Initially given ten minutes to present, the now spellbound committee extended his time again and again. The committee rose in applause as he finished his presentation, and the Fordney-McCumber Tariff of 1922 included a tariff on imported peanuts. Carver's presentation to Congress made him famous, while his intelligence, eloquence, amiability, and courtesy delighted the general public."

Bonanza, if Martin Luther King read what you consider to be a celebration of Black History Month, he would turn over in his grave.

You're reinstating the same damn racism that was fought against by saying that African Americans are better than other races.  That's just as prejudicial as a Caucasian saying that they can do anything better than an African American.

Ok, but also Malcolm x would be happy. Cant please them both, or can u?

1: Are you sure that's the one you want to please?  If Malcolm X's message, in the end, was just racism directed against non-African American races, then his message is worth nothing because there is no hope for a better society.  He provides no hope for groups to live and work together.  At that point, you justify Decimus and every other racist to continue what they're doing, because you are no better than Decimus.
