The US has a lot ofprivate companies like lockheed martin that produce the military weapons for the US military. These weapons can only be produced in the US.

Right and wrong at the same time.

We are service-based.  However, the government has established trade barriers that protect key industries from going overseas, such as the automobile industry (important in making tanks, jeeps, etc.), and the airline industry (planes!).

The industries that have been outsourced aren't of extreme consequence to a military conversion.  Seriously, how jeopardized will the US be if we can't produce military-grade bras?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industry_of_China

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_the_united_states#Manufacturing

USA is a leading manufacturing power in the world with a yearly industrial output 2,696,880 millions of US Dollars (data for January 2008). The US manufacturing is highly diversified and technologically advanced. Main industries are petroleum, steel, motor vehicles, aerospace, telecommunications, chemicals, electronics, food processing, consumer goods, lumber, mining.

Most likely, both could convert their industries to military production.  Electronics become logistical equipment, cars become tanks, etc.

HOWEVER... the US has one key industry which China noticably lacks: aerospace.  Not saying China couldn't convert automobile manufacturing into fighter construction, but that's a much bigger industry transformation.  The US industries require less steps to make the conversion, and air power is a necessity for superiority in modern warfare.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerospace_manufacturer

Industry is primarily in the US, the EU, and other nations... but noticably not holding an impressive place in China.

Re: China

Okay, now tell me the relevance to a country being able to produce in the times of war? Seeing how the days of a large-scale war are over (Or are they? Theres a debate).

China will silently become a super-power. Whether its in 12 months or 120 years is irrelevant.

The original post was trying to 're-educate' people on the global influence of China. I say, this fact is both absurd and irrelevant. China does not need to directly manipulate the world -- they don't even need the most tech-capable military in the world. They are a developing economy.

That also doesn't change the underlying fact that if China sneezes...Australia stands back. As far as i'm concerned, that IS the world tongue.

No it was trying to re-educate people on comparison of the 2 militarys, it's foolish to even consider the Chinese military anywhere on the level of the U.S.

Few Military can be.

- Large scale wars are not over, but many have been replaced with these "conflicts" in order to go unnoticed by radar on the world stage, should something warrant an officially declaration of War to be passed by congress, then the War bonds go out, the Government war contracts start, and hell begins for all of the U.S.'s foes.

Now, another factor is time, do you think china can turn to Wartime production faster then the U.S.?

My Answer is no, they have never done it before, the U.S. has - Policies are already drafted, and practiced for use.

> it's foolish to even consider the Chinese military anywhere on the level of the U.S.

1. I agree.
1.1 They are pretty much a 3rd world country.
1.2 It will be years before their entire military is upto 'next-generation' scratch.

2. I disagree.
2.1 They don't want to be on the same 'level' as the U.S.
2.2 They wont invade another country, so they don't need another invasion force.
2.3 They have a couple hundred nukes pointing at the U.S. There is no way the U.S. will attack, and there is no way the Chinese will attack. Hence, no need for a 'bigger tech military'.

Also the CCP p0wns the Chinese politics. The U.S. is divided politically (the two major factions, and then those are split again in preference to whatever).

My point with this and the last post that 'trying to re-educate people on comparison of the 2 militarys' is irrelevant anyway. Its fruitless, and one would better spend their time comparing Thailand and Cambodia, anyway.

Depends on the reason, in a Nuke war - No one wins, but in a tactical nuke war, the U.S. would wipe China off the face of planet - Should we feel a reason enough... we have more, and bigger nukes, not to mention better missile defense, my opinion is SHOULD A REASON that would warrant a war with china be found, it will more then likely also contain nukes, and in turn, a good chance it would be preemptive, and the Chinese would just have to hope they don't melt their faces off tongue))))))

why would we go tactical nuke vs strategic?  let's face it if 2 nuclear powers go at it the 4th geneva convention goes out the window

@ Skoe - Whats none sense about it? China is JAM packed from border to border - if we tactical nuke there nuclear targets (missiles, Commands, ect), we will end up wiping out china, it's like taking a shot gun to a soda can at point blank range in an attempt to shoot a fly off the top.

By the time of the next global holocaust the political lines will have changed considerably.

The Chinese are remarkably good at 'borrowing' technology. The U.S. will spend trillions, the Chinese will just copy for a few billion (including production costs).

The Chinese will borrow it so they can kill themselves? If you're talking about modification and then used right back against us it would be the Japanese.

Again learn a thing or 2 about logistics and reverse engineering, yes china has illegally copied many Russian and American designs, and made modifications -

However, when you mass produce an item that you don't have vendor support for your shooting your self in the foot...

Example.. on any Marine Air base you will find offices for Boeing, and for Bell Aero technologies - The manufacturers know all the aircraft is capable of they made and designed it, reverse engineering even the greatest minds can only guess what the airframe or another piece of equipment was intended....

Also.. your talking about taking apart a drill - Ok, you can pretty quickly figure out how to make your own drill from observing the machinations of said drill - Thats what the Chinese are doing now with modern technology's....

I'm talking about taking apart something more complex, when the U.S. breaks into an area of military technology's, that's exclusive, EVEN if they Chinese got their hands on said tech, they would have no concept or even inclination of comprehensions to understand what the frack they are staring at.

Yes, because international espionage is new to the Chinese...

Sure, and U.S. marine bases are guarded by a giant pink [fluffy] bunny named Igor. Hes got a hunch, but is one hell of a guard bunny! Igor doesn't like being provoked, and is actually of Mexican decent (Go figure). So anyway, when Igor...Well, i wont tell you X(. I'll let Igor demonstrate for himself...

Re: China

Excuse me? Found a Dictionary? What exactly do you think i did while i was in the marines?

1. My MoS was an 0431, Embarkation Logistical Specialist, 1 of the 2 MoS's that are considered specializations within the Corp.

2. Logistics is the proper term to use all actions, and capabilities required to support said action, and the movement or upkeep of said actions. So, i will continue to use it when your ignorance warrants such use - don't like it? Educate yourself.

3. USMC Bases have several different measures of security, first is the Gates, which are manned 24 hours depending on the traffic of that particular inlet by 1-15 Marines and MPs, anyone who is driving a non-Dod registered vehicle must submit their vehcle to a full search, and have their identity reviewed, and their purpose on base reviewed before allowed to enter the "Main side" of a base.

Now where the meat and potatoes is particularly in this case the Aero technologies, and Aircrafts, there is a Large 15 Foot fence, topped with razor wire that encircles the entire flight line, the only way to get in is at a Turn style, several are placed through out for ease into particular hangers, they are under 24 hours surveillance, and the only way to get admitted is to :
      1. Have a Military or approved DoD CaC Card (Military Badge)
      2. Have the Computer Chip, and bar code on your badge encoded with permissions done only by MPs, this requires a security class, and which permission your allowed of designates which areas your card grants access too.
- The flight line is also monitored 24 hours a day 7 days a week by armed sentries.
