Anticipation surged through the awaiting crowd like electricity as they gathered for the results of the lynching. Today's vote was a close one. It was like the City Square was split into two halves - one with Nolio at the forefront, the second with Genesis. Both were looking nervous. With 5 minutes until the 9am minimum deadline, chants started from the two sides.

"Down with Genesis! HE'S THE MOB BOSS!!"
"Nolio killed Arnor - KILL HIM!!"

Perhaps it was the shock of last night's murder of Mayor You_Fool, but the opinion of the city truly was divided... with each side equally as sure of their decision. Hours seemed to pass in those few minutes as both suspects looked expectantly up at the city clock - it's digital display counting down the minutes until the result.

A hush fell over the crowd as the giant LCD display secured at the top of city hall changed from 08:59 to 09:00. The game moderator slowly walked out of the hall and spoke.

"Humans and humanoids, thanks for your votes. They have now been counted and verified and I can reveal that today's lynchee will be...." There was a long dramatic silence as if people were awaiting the results of who was being kicked off a reality TV show, but this was for real. "Genesis! He gained a full 6 votes more over Nolio and will therefore be deactivated." Soon after the announcement, the square erupted with conflicting sounds - the cheers from Nolio's supporters against the shock and outcry from the Genesis camp. Amongst this public display, no one noticed that Genesis was missing.

The game moderator quickly scanned the crowd and noticed that the lynchee had disappeared. He immediately reached into his pocket, took out a device which looked like a calculator but with a bigger display screen and typed in Genesis' number. The screen flicked on to display a map of the inner city, amongst the lines of one of the streets leading off the main square was a flashing green dot. The moderator immediately took his deactivator gun and ran off down the street.

He entered King Street after a minute and scanned it. Genesis was standing at the end, looking for a place to hide.

"STOP RIGHT THERE GENESIS!" the moderator shouted.

"NO! You will not kill me today! Or any day!" came the reply.

The game moderator smirked and lifted the deactivator to take aim. A moment later and a flash of white light flew down the street like a lightning bolt and struck Genesis in the back of the head. He immediately fell to the floor. The moderator walked briskly up to the body and bent down in order to open the control panel. He didn't see the girl from run behind him. As she pushed past him, he recognised her as Lynns, the city librarian.

"Sorry mod, I've just come to see first hand that we've killed the mod boss," she said as she took the card out and looked at it. Her face could not even begin to describe the shock and horror that she felt when she realised that the control card had been untouched... and definitely not hacked.
