i like this 1,2 or 3 man regular gal would be fun.

After playing SS in Tri (and randomly in Orion), I am more convinced that this is the way IC should go.  It's more fun and like I've been saying, its important to make players responsible for their own empires.

I'd even consider have this as mainline and then having the special galaxy as Fam play for specialised roles and coordinated fams (ie, the current Pw/MW/Tri style of play).

I'd have to agree as well, I've played the game for many years.  Back in the heyday of IC, working in fams was fun and exciting as there were lots of active players and people were not as specialized as they are now.  It was more about everyone taking responsibility and growing their own empire.  yes, you still worked together to help each other.  but, you didn't rely on player x or y having to be active in their role, so that you or other players in the fam could grow.  i know the way IC plays now works well for some, but as an old player with limited time to play, relying on fam bank or others doesn't work well.  the funnest round i had so far since i returned was being SS in the last PW round before it was closed early.

please open this gal asap, the game is so dead you kannot even setup fams of 5 players playing aktive

Maybe the thought is, for a year or so we run 1 man galaxies then we can switch and do some team based ya da ya da, but I agree with Torq here.
